One of the major sites in downtown beirut that should be visited. It holds a lot of history from the roman period to the golden age of lebanon all the way to our turbulent times.

Stunning edification that brings into place recent history of Lebanon and the appreciation of its Muslim citizens for El Hariri. Sad story but beautiful memorial. It is located near downtown and next to a magnificent mosque. Also, the piece of land where you can see an old city are the remains of one of the first universities in Middle East.

A place worth visiting while youโ€™re in Beirut that is built in the memory of the martyrs who lost their lives for the country. Itโ€™s a somber memorial place. Unfortunately some of the buildings are badly damaged surrounding one end of the square to remind you the difficult times that the brave people of this city have endured!

Perfect square for demonstrations against a corrupted government. Friendly people and clean space. Nice music and animation. Good decorations. For the family during the day but dangerous during night because of the security service that is very impolite and violent with the customers.

We went to Martyrโ€™s square along with approximately over a million and a half Lebanese from all over the country. United for change in hope of a better, cleaner, and corruption-free tomorrow.

(Translated by Google) The Martyrs' Square is the largest square in Beirut and the commercial center of the capital, which has witnessed throughout the ages articulated historical events. The name of the square was not the beginning of the Martyrs' Square, as it was known as the "Bustan Fakhr El-Din", which assigned Italian engineers to build palaces from the stones of the palaces of his opponents Al Sifa and Akkar rulers, so he built a palace in the eastern suburb of Beirut. However, political disputes subsequently forced one of the heirs of the Siva family to retaliate, destroying the palace and constructing private property in its place. Then the name of the square changed to the cannon square From โ€œThe Cannon Squareโ€ to โ€œThe Tower Squareโ€ From a protection tower to the martyrs' execution yard .. The articulate event in the history of this square was in 1916, when Jamal Pasha, who was known as Al-Saffah, executed 14 Lebanese and Syrian nationals in the square, after the Ottoman Empire lost World War I, accusing them of helping the enemies. Death sentences were carried out by hanging on May 6, 1916, at the Burj Square in Beirut, and it was called the Martyrs' Square. A place with a lot of history. You'll find the biggest mosque in Lebanon here. It's also the only mosque open to tourists. Next door is the main Maronite church in Lebanon. You will also find Shia mosques and Orthodox churches nearby as well. Beirut Souk is a short walk away with fancy shopping stores, starbucks, restaurants, and a movie theater.

Really is a reminder of the problem this country is facing being built before the civil war then being damaged during the civil war and keeping the shots it had suffered during the war. After all that it got all that graffiti during the protests of October really does show this country canโ€™t get enough. Oh a thing I recommend is to make it easier for people to get there.

Martyrs' Square in Beirut, Lebanon, is a historic public space symbolizing resilience and change. It witnessed significant events, including protests and gatherings, marking Lebanon's socio-political landscape. The square hosts the iconic Martyrs' Statue, representing the nation's quest for freedom and unity, making it a poignant symbol of Lebanon's enduring spirit and collective aspirations.

Popular landmark in the heart of Beirut. Many citizens came together here during past revolutions. You can easily walk around to different landmarks such as Martyrs' Square as long as you're extra careful from all the unorganized traffic in the area (it's better than a lot of other areas in Lebanon, let's be real, but still).

It is a square in the heart of downtown Beirut recognized by its central statue commemorates Lebanese nationalists who were hanged during World War I under ottoman rule. The statue, which was inaugurated on March 6, 1960, is the work of Italian sculptor. The statue, riddled with bullet holes, has become a symbol for all that was destroyed during the Lebanese Civil War.
