I am a breast cancer survivor, and had an extremely embarrassing and humiliating experience at the Caracalla Therme Spa in Baden Baden last Thursday. I wore a bathing suit that I normally wear, which has a bit more covering top (simple black short top with cap sleeves) to cover scars from my surgeries and for other obvious reasons why women who have gone through breast cancer treatment (mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation) need special swimwear. As I started to go into one of the pools, a woman who works Caracalla spa approached me in front of other guests and basically demanded that I leave the spa area because my top did not look like what she considered to be a standard swimsuit top. Even though it is a swimtop and made of the same material as any other swimsuit, it just has more coverage (see photo), with a cap sleeve that covers my upper area more so than the standard revealing swimsuits with bikini style straps. I explained my condition (while other spa guests watched and could hear), and she did not seem to care. Another young man who worked there came over to try to assist and he also tried to explain to her my medical condition (she did not speak English so he translated it for her), and this did not help either. Her response was simply as though the fact that I had been through breast cancer and have "appearance" issues from treatment did not matter at all, and that I had to leave the spa area. Again, in front of other guests who were at the spa (all watching me, which was very embarrassing). She escorted me into the locker area near the entrance of the spa, and again I had to explain my condition to additional staff at Caracalla as to why I had to wear a more covering swim top...and no one did anything. They simply did what this person wanted, which again she still demanded that I would not be able to wear my swimsuit top into the spa. Again, this was extremely embarrassing and humiliating to have to keep explaining this to workers at the spa. Eventually, I had to go to the Caracalla gift shop and purchase a different swimsuit, and figure out a way to put a cover-up over the top of the swimsuit to keep from exposing my deformities and skin issues from radiation and scars. I did this rather than leaving the spa because I did not want to ruin the day for the other oerson I was with. And I had to pay much more money for this swimsuit than you would in a normal store, because of course it was the spa gift shop. Caracalla of course did not offer me any type of compensation as a result of this treatment. No apologies, and no refund for all the time I had to spend to do this. They charge admission by the hour, so I had to use the time I had already paid for to go to the gift shop and figure out how to fashion an appropriate cover-up for this new expensive swimsuit. All of this happened to me during Breast Cancer Awareness month, in which when I walked through the streets of Baden Baden, Germany, and saw that they proudly display their support for Breast Cancer awareness month "Pinktober in Baden Baden." As one of the primary tourist lattractions in Baden Baden, the Caracalla Therme Spa does not seem to support breast cancer survivors who are forever scarred from this disease. That is why I am writing this review, to bring awareness of how they treat poeple like myself at Caracalla. Maybe others will see this and take note of this, and maybe Caracalla will change their practices.

Wonderful Thermal bathing with or without Romanesque sauna and spa options. My partner and I really enjoyed our afternoon here at Caracalla Spa. The venue is extremely busy with lines of about 30 folk waiting for entry due to over demand of lockers. But the wait is worth it. Remember you will be charged for the time you spend in the venue (including showing and time changing clothes). Lockers are provided with your entrance fee and are open and closed using a wristband housing proximity detectors (just remember not to forget your locker number). Lockers are available in big and small; some the size of a small shoeboxs and others large enough to fit a suit in. You can hire towels and pay extra for the Romanesque sauna and spa. There are so many wonderful saunas and spas to try in the Romanesque area but they are to be accessed without swimwear attire. This Romanesque area is unisex for all items including toilets, showers, spas, saunas, solarium, bathing, relaxing, and sunning areas. There is no hot saunas other than in the Romanesque area which is upstairs from the cafe in the main indoor pool area via the spiral stair case. This venue is enormous and will take you a good two hours to really enjoy all it has to offer. There is also a “Wellness” fitness salon which you can book their services. In every area there are cafes and you can use you wristband to order and finalize the bill on the way out. There are hair driers, heaps of showers, toilets, and bathing hot and cold pools. You can catch a train to Baden-Baden station and the the 201 bus which delivers you close to the Caracalla Spa and work the 200 meters the reset of the way.

Fun experience. If you are wondering which bath is better, then if you're looking for fun and variety and modern, this is the one to choose. One can easily spend a full day here as there are reading areas, restaurants and bar available. however, I prefer the Roman Irish bathes because I had no one to make out with nor girl friends to chit chat with. at the Roman Irish bath it is strictly prohibited to talk, here you can still hear people talking and making out in the big pools. There's a lot of pools to choose from. For 5 euros more you get the naked sauna upstairs which is worth it just to experience one. For me the saunas upstairs were too hot and I didn't take my necklace off which was burning my neck. Every hour on the hour there's a "show" of the staff changing the scent of the speculum sauna room upstairs. She will personally fan you hot air and explain what she is doing in German. She will also call you out if you are wearing any piece of clothing and if your feet isn't covered by the towel. It felt like a concert although it was too hot for me to stay for the whole show. The lukewarm pools downstairs felt wonderful after the sauna upstairs. The steam room downstairs is also nice. Lots and lots of people so I wouldnt call it relaxing. Great for couples (maybe not for a first date upstairs naked at the sauna??) And groups. Hotel guest card gives you an hour free here.

Really good facility, outdoor pools especially very enjoyable. Don’t forget your swimsuit and towel. Actually 2 hour is enough for a day but if you come from far away max 3 hours is good. There are solarium and aramothrapy rooms as well. Absolutely recommended! For Covid-19 update: You need test in the entrance even you are vaccinated as 2G+ requirement.

Well maintained facilities, nice pools indoor and outdoors. Stupid and repeat STILL STUPID ( in case they answer here) non-photo policy! I've been to spas around the world but here is the only place where police-like staff tried to stop me taking pics. I dont believe in this at all. see pics attached. It was funny seeing staff disturbing their own customers while they browsed their phones... Contrary to their website there is no such service offered to "record your memories by us".

Top! Great thermal swimming pool area. Different pools and great vibe. No photos allowed inside spa area. Parking onsite - first 2 h reduced rate of 50cents per hour, don’t forget to stamp your ticket at the cash desk. Shower cabins are separated, hair dryers are very powerful. Be sure to come earlier and avoid crowds. Not visiting saunas, 2 h was not enough to enjoy pools, try to get at least 3h. Sun terrace is nice and spacious. One of the best thermal areas I’ve been too. Drinking water zone just next to the entrance in the main hall.

Bathing suits that are “too long” are banned, even if they’re made from appropriate swimming textiles and produced by known bathing suit companies. The reason behind this racist, irrational rule is unclear, other than being racist and irrational, while this property claims to be open and diverse. People with body scars and other personal reasons who choose to cover parts of your body, you’re not accepted and humiliated here.

A very unique experience. It is very relaxing. The place is not too busy. I went to experience a thermal bath and it was very much worth it, they have a very hot pool, very cold pool, main mineral pool, outside mineral pool and outside heated mineral pool. There is also a sauna but that you pay separately, prices are good and it's very clean. The water gets tested as well. The coned roof of the main pool looks amazing. I spent about three hours there and it never got boring and apparently it's very good for your skin. I Don't have pictures since obviously you were not allowed in a pool/bath. Right now it's quite hard to reach by car because of a road closure so it results in a 700 metre walk.

Very good experience. Stuff was friendly. Not enough control by the enter to swimming pool. People don't take a shower before using a swimming pool ( is a bit dirty i think)

Do not go to this place, there are many other better spas in the world, a glass of water (receipt attached), an exorbitant price of 5.4 euros, and another 3 euros for the glass, and there is no cold water tap that you can drink freely, entering the saunas requires an additional fee of 5 Euro, and you will have to pay because the sauna that is supposed to have free entry is not working, the entrance fee is 20 Euro for two hours. So just don't come here

Loved this experience! Spent a full 3 hours here and could have easily spent longer because there is so much to enjoy. We went on a Friday night, there was no waiting. Buying the ticket through our hotel gave us towels to use and an extra hour for free. This experience was very new to us and we were confused about the locker and changing room entrance when we walked in but the staff gave us directions. All the areas that we saw were clean except the grotto hot pool seemed to have a little gravel in the bottom. We enjoyed the textile free area and the swimsuit area but didn’t have time for the restaurant or sunbathing. I think it should not allow children—it is hard to keep kids from being rowdy and noisy around a pool. Thankfully the sound of the waterfalls and jets helped to create white noise which helps with relaxation. Loved how strong the jets are so that you get a good deep tissue massage. Wonderful time, highly recommend!

Great experience! Quite and relaxing place. Wasn't many families with children. Not to many people in the pools at once. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Good quality of food on decent price. If you would like to have massage you have to plan ahead. We will definitely come back next year.

Enjoyed my time at Caracalla... Preferred outside pool. Water was warm, although outside temp was 2-3deg. Sauna is allowed w/o swimsuit only. Currently, steam sauna is not open due to Covid. Don't forget to take your towel....

I loved the whole place, i visited in december and it was magical, the water very hot and the weather was 1 degree. We have spend 2 hours there, i recommend people to take their towels with them because you have to pay 6 euro for renting a towel along with a deposit. One thing i did not like is that photography is not allowed there but i was able to take some photos for the memory. I cant understand why i cant take pictures there

I been traveling for 26 days when I came to Baden-Baden, my last stop on my journey before going home. What is better ending than going to a spa to get all travel dust off. Caracalla was the right place to goto, located close to the city center, it offer both indoor and outdoor pools. The water in the pools rang from 18 Celsius to 38 Celsius something for everyone. The changing room is unisex, showers are separated men and women. There are also Saunas, steam room a few other spa services. This was a great end to my journey.

The place is too small. Two small pools outside and one inside. The personal is extremely rude. When you ask them about something, they turn their back on you. The person's call Thomas and Lamaj. The staff is not friendly to people with disabilities. Avoid this place.

Bought an online voucher just to drive two hours to find out that we couldn’t use it because it was closed…hopefully we can get a refund because we spent a lot of money on this. Update: They will be giving us a refund. Also be aware everything is 2G+ but they offer Covid test on site.

A variety of pools with different temperatures really give a chance for everyone to enjoy the water at the conditions they prefer. The setting is modern with some Roman elements that perfectly fit. The outside pools also offer some special and fun treats.

No idea what the last reviewer is on about, we had the same front desk lady with the red hair and the bright lipstick, on the same day, and she was absolutely delightful and charming. She helped us very well and made our stay all the more pleasant. The baths themselves are good and comfortable and offer everything one hopes for in this kind of place.

Great experience. Sauna is textile free (i.e. nude). Do not forget your towel when you go here. They have many sauna rooms and I had a great time. A relaxing day. Thermal bath was okay. Water was not that warm as the way I expected. Carcalla spa is worth the money and one must have such experience

Decent thermal spa with adequate saunas. We went in the late evening from 7pm - 10pm, and it wasn’t too busy at all. Good changing facilities and the textile free saunas were clean and relaxing. The front desk staff didn’t seem that friendly, which seems to be a running theme in thermal spas. One staff member was a little frustrating, in asking to make sure our whole body was on the towel in the sauna, which is fair enough... but it was a little much when my calf was off the towel on a sun lounger... I don’t think COVID-19 is spread via uncovered calves.

It was ok. Sadly, way too crowded! The pools are not very warm. They should really invest in a new outdoor pool, they have the space, probably just too greedy. They should also build a few more whirlpools in the sauna area, that would be nice. When we left (18:30 on a Saturday) the line to get in was crazy!! So I imagine it was going to get even more crowded… Still I was able to enjoy a bit with my girlfriend, but I don’t think I will come back unless there is more pool areas.

Nice place to spend a couple of hours. In my opinion, the sauna was the best part of the complex. Indoor and outdoor pools with different temperatures were good for moving around. The main part I didn't like was the price of €12 to rent towels, which in other places I'd been to were included in the entry price.

We waited 20 min. to get a ticket, although Monday Morning was not a busy day. They increased the price heavily. Inside all the palm trees were gone, unbearable construction noise was going on outside, and we had to face an ugly fence with big letter. You call this relaxation??

Nice, good and warm water, cheap prices for entrance and massages compared to other Thermal baths, but be sure to reserve your place if you take a massage. Inside and outside pool, and one free drink with the standard ticket which is comely. Just be sure to bring you own towel and sandals because they're compulsory. And I think bath shorts aren't allowed, but only proper swimsuits. Call before to check.

Beautifully designed thermal bathhouse. Reasonable range of pools although a bit on the smaller side overall. Doesn't have the historical, rustic atmosphere of many other European bathhouses. It's a more contemporary design that doesn't really reflect German culture, in my view. Only one underwhelming steam room which has a single door that is opened and closed constantly by people entering and changing their minds and leaving, which causes the temperature to drop. The spa's sauna is accessible for a separate fee, unfortunately. The pine vapour room didn't do much for me or the other people I noticed using it. The outside pool area has residential private balconies overlooking it, which I disliked as well as the cheap fencing surrounding the spa which were lightly covered with some material. Other general facilities here are to a very good and orderly standard; such as the toilets, showers and changing rooms. The cleanliness was high and the water quality seemed very good. FYI: A phone ban will mean photography is disallowed and you won't be able to get pictures of yourself, family, friends, etc.

Excellent facilities, but staff spoiled it completely with their very rude attitudes and comments. They could not speak English well, tild us we are stupid, did not provide a warm welcome or advice about the use of the facilities at all. Advice: Take towels, sandals and bottled water along, and if you are parking, be sure to ask for your ticket to be validated to avoid a high parking parking charge. The extra cost for sauna complex is worth the spend- some in our party did not do this as they thought it was only a sauna, but there are steam rooms and hot tubs there too. Book for massage well in advance as appointments are very limited, we missed out on this.

The main area is really just one big warm pool, you only need about 10 to 15 minutes in there before you wonder why you’re still there… Definitely pay the extra five euro to go upstairs, be advised it’s all naked, that’s where the good sign is and hot tubs are Definitely not a bad experience, but wasn’t anything special.

The baths were fine, and an okay selection. The issue my wife and I had was with the Wellness treatment . We booked two 50 minute full-body massages. There was only one young man working the entire wellness center, and he was in a bad mood (understandably). He was late for both of our appointments and stopped after only 30 minutes. The massage was not great and the whole experience was uncomfortable. We won’t be doing that again.

The spa experience was lovely, although would have been better if it were completely nude in the whole spa. You have to wear a bathing suit in the pools. Otherwise it was quite a lovely experience. When we entered, we rented a towel and paid for the entrance ticket. We received a wristband that we were told was used to pay for food inside and to use the lockers. The receptionist said to keep our receipt for the towel because it was very important. Upon leaving, a different receptionist acted like I was crazy for giving her the receipt we saved. She said she didn’t know what I wanted her to do with this and that we “hadn’t paid” for anything. Inside the spa we got lunch so I’m assuming she meant that even though the First Lady said we paid using the wristbands, it didn’t apply? I’m not sure if it’s different here in Europe, but in America the payment systems remember your credit card information. If you pay once, they just apply your credit card info to everything. This lady treated us like we were stupid and trying to steal from the spa instead of just asking us politely to run the card again. I speak a little German and when I expressed my confusion about the situation she said to me “well I know you understand me because you’re speaking german”. This was quite assuming and rude. If the receptionists don’t want to explain the payment system, perhaps some more signs explaining it for them would be helpful.

Spa pools were wonderful with good massaging effects. Went on a Monday morning which was a good thing as the human traffic was much less than a weekend and one can enjoy more of the peace that the baths and saunas can offer. However, I had a very unpleasant experience with my bath towels being stolen. Went with my own disposable bath towels at the start. They might have looked slightly small or lacking as a towel, but they were definitely good enough to cover me. Anyway, i was on the nudist level so who cares about the size of the towel. On level 2, the staff promptly suggested to my husband that we can rent towels from them, which we did. Went around exploring the spa baths on level 2 followed by level 1. I left the rented towels and my folded disposable towels on a chair on level 1 and went for the outdoor spa pool. And guess what, when we came back, the towels were gone. We approached the counter and a lady rudely and sarcastically told us that it was our right to look after our own belongings. I did not even get the chance to ask if someone might have cleared the rented towels by accident, along with my neatly folded unused disposable bath towels. All the lady did was to raise her voice and sound like we were irresponsible people. It was only after I mentioned that I had also lost my own towels that she stopped yelling. As we had no bath towels to dry ourselves, the counter staff had no choice but to pass us 2 towels so we could dry ourselves. When we came back, the same lady was yelling at us, insisting that we have to pay for the towels, that we cannot use them for free and sounding blaming. Until 2 other elderly people at the counter had to ask what happened. I really think she was being very mean and condescending. We had not mentioned anything about not paying for the towels. Come on, i lost my own towels too man. Germany is overall a very safe place. Even my expensive swimsuit did not get stolen when i left it at the side on level 2. I have difficulty believing that 2 wet blue rented towels, along with my own disposable bath towels were stolen. Was it a mistake that someone cleared them away and we were made to pay for the towels? Moral of the story - bring your own towels. I should have insisted on using my own towels and at least, I would not have felt the pinch paying 15euro each for some lousy towel. The way we were treated when we “lost” the towels left a sour taste. Towels rental are definitely overpriced.

My favorite area is an outdoor area amongst the trees in log cabin style saunas as part of the Roman experience. Honestly it’s so relaxing on a cool evening. I think although it is well maintained, it is due for some renovations soon due to decor updates needed.

We had a great experience in this sauna/spa. It has swimming pool area with thermal baths and a sauna area. The only minor thing was that there is no real swimming pool in the sauna area, so you have to dress up again for the swimming pool area. Good entrance pricing.

Busy! It's a great place and very organsied with the amount of people churning through and steeping throughout the day. Their is an Irish Therme next door. Don't be surprised if the lady rolls her eyes and says, your kind over to this one. Not sure why--I didn't figure it out. There is all different kinds in pool and sauna. I wasn't sure what to do about the what looked like 12 year olds and immature 20 year olds hanging in the pools. I really didn't have the energy to try and figure it out and I go to.these places for rest. It highly detracts from the experience. Since it's such a tourist stop; you have to be a real sauna person to.use the collagen beds as there are constant want-to-see whats up there kinds walking through. Overall, for a never been to a therme, it's a good one to see or try.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, I'm missing a little holiday feeling here. Parking garage simply overpriced after 6 hours 14.50 paid for using the bathroom, clearly usury. The food was actually delicious only there was a lot of oil in my cream sauce at the taglliatelle at my friend's again the same food was the meat a bit wobbly but a pure cream sauce. The service at the entrance area was great (Original) Leider fehlt mir hier etwas Urlaubsfeeling.

Some areas are restricted, or reduced to use by 1 men at a time these days, like thermal bath, but after all everything is perfect, as usual.

Nice day for relaxation. They have few different pools with different temperatures and also couple of pools outside. They have few different saunas as well. You can buy ticket for specific number of hours or a day ticket - for just the swimming pools or swimming pools and sauna. I went for bath and sauna combined day ticket for 27 euros. One can easily spend a day here. However, it can get very busy and there is not always free place/benches to sit and relax. Restaurant was super slow. And no parking on site.

Before corona times i would have rated caracalla spa a definite 5. But i went a second time during corona and i was disappointed that many of the facilities were closed up. The accessible parts are limited to the indoor and outdoor pools but the price remained the same. 2 hours were enough for us this time (last time i went 3 hours and i found it barely enough). Nonetheless, it was still a relaxed and pleasant experience :)

I have seen many SPA centers, but this one definitely has its own spirit. The level of services is definitely satisfactory, and the choice of baths is huge; thus, everyone is able to find what he or she needs. As for me, the Blue room is perfect for relaxation and mindfulness. Also, the outside swimming pool is great to feel the contrast with nature during the German mild winter.

It all depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a pool with a bit of sauna on the side then this is a good spot. If you are looking for a sauna experience with a pool on the side then this probably isn’t the spot for you. Not enough choice in sauna’s, couldn’t find drinking water except in the restaurant. Choice and quality of food in the restaurant is good. And .. please dear people of spa management, do something about people keeping a sun bed occupied with a towel while they are using the pool and sauna.

I went there twice during my 4-day visit in Baden-Baden. There is a spacious pool (not so many people during this corona-crisis), outdoor whirl pools and warm bath. For me, the best part is actually the sauna (Spectaculum) with various kinds of essential oil every hour and the outdoor sauna places. Although the choices are not as many as some of the Thermen in Germany, it is still worth visiting to have a relaxing time here. Because of the current, they tried really hard to fit the government’s regulations. I appreciated that, but there is simply too much chloride added in the pools. My skin, hairs and my eyes were a bit irritating when I went there. Besides, some places are not open, but I would definitely visit again when this crisis is over.
