Great opportunity to see bears, wolves and lynxes in their natural environment. Particularly liked that we could observe the animals as they were and no exhibitions were put on. The area is fantastic and well-kept. Great job in giving the animals a comfortable home after rescuing them from horrific situations! Entrance price is very reasonable (cheap in my opinion), and the food is very decently priced. Definitely recommend a visit.

Will heißen!

Update visit 03/09/23 : Again, it's been a wonderful visit today ❤️ Since it was a beautiful, sunny day there were more visitors than during our visit last year. However, still pleasant. I love this place! —————————— October 2022 : As a first time visitor and having observed bears and wolves in their natural habitat in the USA I was very pleasantly surprised with the complete sanctuary for these utterly beautiful creatures! ❤️👌🐻🐺 They have lots of outdoor space, set amidst the nature of the Black Forest; a river running through etc. Of course one may say such animals do not belong in captivity which is correct. However, let's not forget these animals here were "rescued" and have been given the very best 2nd home they can get! Many thanks to everyone for taking such good care of our natural beauties! ❤️ I highly recommend visiting this sanctuary and please be so kind to make a donation.

An amazing place to visit, especially if you are interested in wildlife. Seeing the animals up close was a unique experience and the fact that you get an idea of each animal's background makes it even more interesting. Totally recommend it.

Been there twice, loved the place, though I could only spot two bears on the second visit. Bistro is nice too. Caveat for hikers: Apparently, the only good way to get here on foot is from the hillside (east of the Wolf river). The main road (Rippoldsauer Str.) is pedestrian-hostile around this place, and there are no connections to the hiking trail (Wolftalweg) west of the river. The park is not to blame for this, but this being one of the main sights around Schapbach, maybe the town could help make it more accessible.

Beautiful area with beauituful view and nature!! Seeing the bears and wolfs was really incredible coming from a person who never seen them up front or in real life before, was delightful to light up my world with new animals, and seeing how they live get fed, being good taken care of 💕 and rescued from dangerous places! Loves meeting them all along with taking beautiful pictures along the way! The bear restaurant has nice ice cream too!

That was a great experience. Wolves, Bears and Lynxes in their natural environment. It was a feast for the eyes to see them like that. Sometimes they were near the fence and sometimes you had to search for them. It was like a game with our family. The scenery in the park was in itself amazing. The park was not to busy and had a very nice establishment to eat.

I was a bit doubtful about this place at first, because the park is very much geared towards visitors who come to see abused animals behind fences. But the further you walk through the park, the more information you get about how terrible humans are for animals and how much the park cares about the welfare of the animals. Money from visitors means money for the animals, so all's well that ends well!

An excellent opportunity to see bears in a realistic habitat. The park have worked hard to rescue these bears and give them the opportunity to live a more normal life. We saw 8 bears as we walked round the route and were really pleased to be able to take our dog (on a lead). Entry is very reasonably priced and the staff we met were friendly. Well worth a visit

Found this place on Google maps by chance as we were in the area. We weren't expecting much for only €11 per person but this has been a highlight of our time on Germany. A beautiful sanctuary, large enclosures and stunning bears and wolves that have been rescued. Dogs are even allowed for an additional €2. There are even vegan options and the food kiosk. Can easily spend a few hours here admiring the wildlife.

I took three buses to get here from Baden Baden and it was totally worth it! I wasn’t sure we’d see anything considering it’s not a zoo but we were surprised. We saw all the animals including the elusive lynx. It was interesting (and heartbreaking) to find out about the animals’ backstory and how they came to the park. Highly recommended. One thing to bear (pun intended) in mind is that the ticket desk didn’t accept Visa but did accept other cards. Might be worth bringing cash, just in case. There’s a little cafe on site with great ice cream.

This is not a Zoo!!! It's a lot better than that. First time i go "zoo" without feel sorry for the animals. Thank you guys so much all the staffs for saving poor animals and let their live their wild life as much as possible. We come from Netherlands and I must say,I have been in a lot of Zoo before but nothing is good like this! You can read the story of any animals they have and how do they be saved, very touching stories. Please donate when you are there also so the good thing can keep going and more animals will be saved 👍

Great place to enjoy some peace and quiet since you are not allowed to be loud. The history on the bears was sad based on how they were treated prior to being brought to the park. Didn't see any wolves but quite a few of the bears. They mostly hung out in the shade since it was quite warm that day. Got to see them play in the water, so quite cool. Dinging one star because it was expensive but i understand they need to take care of the animals.

The park is well worth a visit if for nothing else to support the park, it's nice that animals that have been mistreated can spend the remainder of their lives in a safe environment. Most of the stories of the animals past are sad but they seem at peace in the environment that has been built for them. It took us a little over an hour to get around as we were pressed for time and it started to rain towards the end. They have a small restaurant on site so you can enjoy a snack or meal as well. Next time we're in Germany we'll spend a few more hours there.

Very nice to see the animals are doing way better than before they got here. The bears were fully in sight and a lynx was sitting next to the fence. Unfortunately we didn't see any wolves but the experience was fantastic. There's a small snackbar where you can buy drinks and food and a nice place to sit enjoy your meal.

Great place to walk with family and kids. Not to big or long but for some quality time outside. Food is excellent. There is not a lot of parking but overall worth it.

  • 5/5 Lizel G. 8 months ago on Google
Such a wonderful project. Signs tell the story of each bear and how they were rescued. Most signs are auf Deutsch, but the important warnings include English and French translations. Get yourself the Google translate app and take pics for it to translate - very helpful! You hike up in elevation, then back down. There are several resting benches along the way. Well worth the 11€ ticket.

what a wonderful experience! This sanctuary offers a new life for those who can't speak for themselves. These poor souls have been enslaved and tortured, and this place gives them another shot at life. This is NOT A ZOO, which is GREAT! I could honestly spend days here just knowing that these animals are in a better place than their previous ones. I am also glad that the animals can choose when and if they want to be seen. The park also has some great plans for the future which makes the visite worth even more. The only thing i would change is the offered food. Even though they have a large menu filled with vegan and vegetarian options, i think it should be all vegan as no animal needs to die for human pleasure. The food, however, is very good. It's definitely worth a visite and i will definitely come back even though I live near the border to Denmark.

Set on either side of a valley, it is relatively easy to see the animals, but they are also conscious of their need for some privacy, so there are also areas where they can retreat. They are very open about the mistreatment that the animals had before being rescued, and that is a good thing. Thank you for caring for them on our behalf! The food in the cafe is vegetarian/vegan and that is good to see - feels just right.

Wholesome and immersive experience. The animals here face a brighter future than their beginnings. Very worthwhile experience.

What a nice place to be and what a noble cause they serve for these bears, wolves and lynxes. Very well maintained park, the animals look confortable and at home there too. I do not recommend this park for people with physical disabilities as it's quite a firm walk. Not recommended to bring dogs to avoid nervousness from the dogs, owners and other guests.

Nice park to walk around and to observe bears and wolves, saved from abuse, in a decently sized area. Watching the bears play fighting was unforgettable and confirms they feel good inthere. About 10 euro entrance price is worth every euro! And you can share thoughts with a beer and fingerfood in the bar.

Wonderful environment for these abused bears. Exhilarating watching these bears play and “dance.”

Visa cards were not accepted. Furthermore I personally did not like the fact that the animals were kept in electric fences.I understand that it is for visitors safety, but i felt it... wrong.

Nice place to see bears, wolves and lynx in their natural habitat. Large free enclosures for the animals and a nice walk up the mountain to see them forage and play. Must visit with kids

It was well managed, the animals has their forest to hide if they need privacy. There are foods on the ground so they can search and eat. I hope people don't bring dogs there because it's quite stressful for the animals (and the dogs) there. We also saw a bear baby digging a hole in the ground and that was very interesting to observe

  • 5/5 Tamás C. 2 years ago on Google
Very friendly place and they deeply care about the animals.

  • 4/5 Borian D. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely animal sanctuary where you feel a strong will to preserve the animals’ natural way of living. There is a lot of respect for them, as shows the large space they are living in. The entry is 10€ pp, quite pricey for what it is, but given what the park does for its animals, it can be considered as a good action. Also a nice plus for the free & clean sanitaries.

A place where the needs of animal residents for a quiet and natural atmosphere are in a good balance with the necessity for income provided by visitors. The park is located deep within the black forest. Here bears, wolves and lynxes that were rescued out of human-caused misery live alongside each other peacefully. The purpose of the park is to help them heal psychologically and to protect them from humans. Visitors are strongly advised to remain quiet and to respect signs of discomfort in the animals. This definitely isn't a place for noisy kids or to take selfies with animals, but I would highly recommend it to those that are willing to respect the rules.

A fantastic place for the animals that are rescued to this park. I was deeply touched reading the stories of the animals here relearning their natural instincts. Do go here to support this institution but please refrain from bothering the animals for that insta picture as is instructed all over the place. A brilliant park to walk around, look at nature and have a snack/drink at the cafe. Cheers!
