The museum is housed in a former monastery. Exploring the rooms is quite an experience. There are different subject areas. The mass of valuable historical weapons is enormous. I am interested in early history up to the Iron Age. The remarkable finds of this period are divided into the normal collection in the cellar vault and the building collection in the upper area. I was thrilled by the finds as there was little about them on the homepage

One of the most beautiful museums in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, it is located a bit away from the center and is often ignored by visitors. It's worth a visit just because of Mr. Baumann's exhibition. The room with its collection of weapons impresses me every time.

For a small town, Rothenburg has a very well-equipped museum, which is located in a former Dominican convent. Wonderful objects from different eras can be discovered. The Baumann collection is particularly worth seeing!

Great artifacts and antiques are found here. History is preserved well. Museum can be found very near from the Altstadt. Staff are very friendly. Museum is peaceful and maintained well. All antiques and artifacts are preserved and taken care well. Parking cannot be found near by. Ticket 🎟 🎫 prices are minimal. It will take atleast 1 hour to complete the tour if kept walking.

Very, very nicely done...€5 for a very extensive exhibition is really moderate. I was particularly impressed by the old kitchen. Lots of interesting details and an inner courtyard with an impressive giant tree.

Exceptional museum with plenty of well presented displays. Layout is quite straightforward and not too confusing, with a bit of a walk through time, having displays and artifacts from different eras. Decent stop for tourists as there is English signage as well as German. When we were there though, the museum did not allow payment with card, they needed Euros, make sure you have enough for the entrance fee. Entrance fee was 5 Euros per person at the time, quite cheap.

Nice museum with friendly staff. They had a huge selection of knight armor and weapons, among other things.

Nice museum with a lot of town history and various artifacts including religious, weapons, furniture, and romantics etchings. When we bought tickets they gave us an English tour paper and we walked the museum in about an hour with our six and eight year old stopping to explain what caught their eye. Not much for kids there but that was expected. They liked the story about the horned Moses.

This is the museum to visit. It displays a breadth of history of this town that was started around 1080. Some foundations predate that time. The art and implements presented here are outstanding and bring medieval life into your view. Spend the few extra euros to take some photographs.

A great museum, reasonably priced, a great selection and wonderful historical exhibits. My highlight: The Passion of Jesus on the ground floor. The monastery is also a great building.

In winter the museum is open for only 3 hours every day, so my suggestion is to arrive as early as possible. Someone can easily spend 3 hours there! There are exhibitions about the Celts who lived in Rothenburg in 400 AD, about objects from the 18th and 19th centuries and paintings from Rothenburg with explanations about the picturesque style, for example.

The stark painting exhibition was worth seeing

Nice mix of local and wider area artifacts. Most exhibits had English descriptions. Some very interesting focusses on Jewish History in the area. Lots of very old (500-700 year old) swords and guns. No audio guide ( if that's your preference). €5/ person (various prices for younger, older, including $10 for family).

It was a bit disjointed, only because the way the building is structured. Contrary to what I was told, not all the explanations for artifacts are translated into English. So if you speak German, you will get more out of it. One thing that shocked me was to find the Judaica section [ mostly about the murder and expulsion of Jews during the Middle Ages] right next to the section of the rise of national socialism in the town ... 400 years apart and they couldn't place a different exhibit in between those two? I was not impressed.

The museum is somewhat remote and is unfairly not promoted nearly as much as other tourist destinations in Rothenburg. We really liked it in this museum. The employee at the checkout was so friendly that we felt like we had arrived straight away and the hustle and bustle of the tourist miles fell away from us. The exhibitions are interesting, entertaining and provide a wide range of interesting facts about Rothenburg and the region in an entertaining way. Thank you!

Visited in December and was so glad I did ! This museum is a must for anyone in Rothenburg . So many great items on display and plenty of space to walk around and enjoy . Nice break from all the crowds at the Christmas markets ! Great price and perfect for a few hours to learn and see many historical things !

This museum is awesome! One of the best I have ever seen. Old items in fantastic shape. A gun collection for which I doubt there is a compare anywhere. I dont know why gun fans arent crowding the door to get in. The number and quality of 1600's guns is absolutely stunning. This museum is a must see for anyone who enjoys guns. And for those who enjoy quality artifacts and old architecture. Neat museum.

Great museum, lots of walking and reading. Loved all that I saw, but they need to give you a floor plan, there are so many rooms you can easily miss stuff. It can be confusing.

I only ate dinner here, but the hotel seemed very nice. The wait staff was exceptional and accommodating of our need to get dinner quickly to make the night watchman tour. Highly recommended.

Much bigger than it looked from the outside. Lots of artifacts and weapons. Some interesting archeological artifacts from the area, including ancient stone axes and arrow heads.

Perfect museum. Something for everyone. Entire history that spans multiple floors and rooms. Each room is a complete departure from the previous one in aesthetics and layout / this keeps you refreshed throughout. Fantastic. A must !!!

Wonderful place, a most recommended visit when in R.o.d.T. For just 5 euro you can easily spend 2 hours staring at marvelous collections of historic and artistic pieces related to the town and the periphery from prehistoric times to the 19th century. The weapons collection is brilliant. The museum is housed in an ancient monastery full of passages going up and down. 10/10.
