A nice weekend getaway by the bank of River Roopnarayan. A family outing, couples getaway, group trips are advised. Location, comfort and Leisure facilities are excellent . Reception was good as well as staff behaviour. Pros: Good amenities, family pool, spacious rooms, big lawns - good for kids. Cons: Connecting road condition is not up to the mark. We went there for New Year's Eve. It was full but despite this service levels were fine....we called room service a couple of times and they responded promptly. General upkeep of rooms is good. The New Year's Eve function was well managed with a good spread of food and drinks. The location and size of rooms is anyway gorgeous. So overall an excellent facility very close and easily accessible from Kolkata

Stayed there last weekend as part of office trip. We booked 8 rooms on 1st floor. Rooms were pretty large in size with good linen and AC was really good. Tea-Coffee kits were very limited in quantity only one per person which was not sufficient. Property is very big with multiple grass lawns and a big swimming pool. Games room also good. Plenty of activities for the kids as well. Restaurant is large with plenty of options in buffet breakfast and lunch. But taste of cooked dishes were not that you will remember. They were pretty average in taste if not bad. Food price for most items in menu card are very standard and will not put pressure in pocket. Overall it's very nice for a weekend trip with friends, colleagues or family.

Booking through the Sonar Bangla website was quick and clean; this site gave the best price when I compared with some other websites. Took us <1.5 hours from Maa flyover. Paid Rs.250 including 10 at Vidyasagar or 2nd Hooghly Bridge. (Our friend didn’t have Fastag and didn’t want to buy on spot; hence we paid 240 instead of 120 at the only toll (Jaladhulagari?) we crossed). At the hotel, I’d say 1-10 room numbers at the ground floor (deluxe) and similar range at the top floor (3rd) (suite?) are better options; this is considering the palm and other trees obstruct river view from 1st and 2nd floor rooms/balconies (superior deluxe). It appeared to me that size, decor, furnitures are similar in at least ground to 2nd floor rooms. Weekdays rates are 20% cheaper. We also stayed 8 extra hours, and they could accommodate the extension with an extra day charge. Rooms are great - spacious, comfortable beds (even the extra bed we requested, was fairly usable), clean, great balcony, fridge, toiletries etc. Staff members are very helpful and prompt at any time of the day. We liked the food - all cuisines, except for 1-2 misses (e.g., posto r bora was bland). Good game room - table tennis, carom, cards, pool table etc.. Cycles were available on request. Overall, we enjoyed ~30 hours stay there.

This is a perfect place for a day out , located near Kolaghat. We visited this place last month from Kolkata and I absolutely love it. The views from the hotel and ambience were mesmerizing. This hotel is a bit pricey but it's worth it. We took one room for refreshment and the room was neat and clean, as well as the bathroom too. The quality of the food is amazing. It's mouth watering. I have never expected this much quality of the food they are providing. We didn't go for a package but we had a buffet for lunch and ordered breakfast & snacks for the evening. I will definitely recommend this one. If you want to have a perfect dayout with your family/loved one. Definitely go for it. Have fun!!!

The rooms are very spacious and intelligently designed specially the second and third floor rooms offer great view from the balcony. The lawn is big but needs better upkeep the surface is very uneven. The view of the river is very very nice from the lawn. The main problem of the property is food. The food quality is very very poor to be honest and does not compliment the hotel in the way it is advertised. A simple 1 litre mineral water bottle costs Rs 47 which has an MRP of Rs 20. One fails to see the reason for this suicidal business strategy. The hotel seriously needs to improve it's food quality. Other than that it is a good one night weekend getaway.

If you are looking for a quiet trip, this place is not for you. The quality of service is appalling. The crowd is loud. The dining room has an unruly buffet system which is run in the style of a refugee camp. The staff are not much coordial, neither are they trained in any form of etiquette or manners. It feels like you are at the middle of a crowded street when you are out of your room! You may like to look for better alternatives.

Throughout my stay, I noticed the diligent efforts made by the housekeeping staff to maintain a clean and sanitized environment, which is especially important during these times. Lovely location on the bank of the river with rooms facing the river view. A nice pool to dip in with lawn for kids to play. They have a spa too. Also food is nice. But weekends normally it's buffet.

Luxury hotel situated on the river bank with great view and awesome rooms. Its a great place to spend the weekend with family and friends. Nearby residence of Sarat Chandra is a must visit. The only negative point was the food. The buffet was cold and nothing special. They should try to serve at least warm food. Hence minus 1 star. Otherwise a great stay.

Location good. Service good. Restaurant basic. Property are business minded. You spend 5000/- per room, and there is no sound proofing. The adjacent room of us occupied by a young couple. They drank all day, quarrel all the day & played loud music at 2 am. That made our second day of trip horrible. They only mean money, other aspects are ignored. & there is also group parties with loud music to spoil your stay. I will never go there again. I will prefer other remote destination to seek solitude & peace.

Large rooms, but washroom quite small and does not have wash basin, shelf for toiletries, provision for keeping clothes. Interior design not guest friendly, though the rooms are spacious. Price of food is on the higher side. Breakfast is good. Service is very good. Friendly atmosphere.

One of my personal favorite destinations within 1 hr drive. Excellent space rooms and property. Lovely swimming pool and great food. The view of the river is river from the balcony is sublime and its a refreshing place to visit. Always enjoyed and felt relaxed after visiting this lovely resort.

We stayed there for one night . This resort is excellent for a weekend tour. Superb rooms with pool and gym facility , excellent foods from their in house restaurant , reception , restaurant and housekeeping stuffs were very much friendly. Cost is a bit higher side but it Worth's it.

There are two positive points about the resort - 1. The location of the resort. 2. The size of the room. Other than these the resort is charging too much for one night stay. Neither the breakfast nor other amenities justify the money.

This is the most premier property in the area. All the rooms are sea facing and excellent. They should provide washbasins inside the bathrooms and also a dressing table near the mirror. The rooms are spacious There is a great view from the rooms and also the restaurant. My future may be planning that I will go to this hotel....very beautiful hotel

The River view from the balcony is excellent. You can spend the night there. The pool seems like the infinity pool. The pool side sitting place is good too. You can spend the entire day or just go for tea or coffee dates. Perfect gate way. You can simply travel the whole area with the cycles available there. River side will just bring peace. Overall a great experience

The approach to the resort is very narrow and difficult at the corner. The lunch buffet should have more variety for the price of 799 Rs. Worst experience with family as couples residing in the hotel were engaged in obscenity. Hotel staff should take strict action against such behaviour in public as children are around. Couple friendly hotel does not mean couples can perform intimate acts in swimming pool and public places. Rest was good. Hotel staff very professional and helpful. Location of property excellent.

The entrance road to the hotel from the main road is pathetic. Rooms are big but there are too few charging points. The bathroom is not at par international level. Food is unnecessarily sweet in taste no matter if you ask them to make it spicy. Over-all it's not a pleasant stay I had, and certainly not recommend.

Great place with excellent staffs and service... the place is well equipped with fun activities (pool, games room, kids room, gymnasium). Restaurant service is good and foods are awesome! You can take room service or just sit in the restaurant enjoying meals with a view to the Rupnarayan River.

Gorgeous hotel tucked away in a serene spot overlooking the Ganga river and Kolaghat. Ambience, food, behaviour of staff and the room cleanliness are top-notch. Went there just to unwind for the day. Had lunch with my family at their restaurant. A buffet was arranged which was quite sumptuous. The hotel is well laid out with open spaces and a swimming pool. Could serve as a weekend getaway.

Cozy well furnished rooms with view of the ganges. Garden and a good swimming pool. Delicious and hygienic food. Staffs and manager very rude and unhelpful. Doesn't allow to use pool all the time. Drinks not allowed at poolside. One cannot enjoy freely. Prices way to high compared to services offered.

Hotel Sonar Bangla, situated at an off road Kolaghat! Is not that difficult to find, and once you are in the resort! It's totally a different word, to that of the place from where u drove to reach! The place is awesome and well maintained. The river bank view from the expansive lawn is a good and photogenic view, and so is it from the restaurant. I would suggest u check in by 1 PM or so, such that u can enjoy for every penny spent. Njoy the stay. The food is a little on the expensive zone and the taste can't be related, said that it's not a average food but a relatively different one. And the Mutton is the one food that blew me away! It's a must try !

This was such a breath of fresh. Honestly, I went in without expectations after hearing quite low reviews regarding their but, I was baffled because their dishes very tasty. I guess the buffet is a bit underwhelming. Let's see the lawn area is incredibly pretty. The rooms are VERY spacious with a beautiful verandah overlooking the lawn and the river. The staff are pretty quick and punctual. The entire trip is so worth it. However I would suggest to go for Ala Carta and not buffet.

I have been to this resort before. Good place and as such no complaints regarding resort itself. This review is more from management and policy perspective. Their Google page mentions pet friendly and so does other customers reviews who have taken their pets with them. When I tried contacting them for booking it's very strange how they mentioned policy has changed in 1 month and now they are not allowing pets and that's not a fixed policy which might again change based on business. So we can assume only when they don't have enough business their policy for pets changes. Being responsible pet parents it's very sad to see this kind of treatment from big brands.

We maintained resort at a very scenic location at Kolaghat by the river Rupnarayan . Overall good maintenance but there is dearth of parking spot if you are not there to stay ! So we had to do roadside parking. The road leading to the resort is narrow so finding a spot to park was cumbersome. The food quality could have been better considering the money they charge for buffet. However the serene ambience and magnificent view made it worthwhile

The location, the ambience, the property...is simply excellent!! The cool breeze blowing throughout the day, evening and night was a cherry on the cake , It was green and lush everywhere..river side rooms were awesome 👌👌 Food quality was average or shall I say below average, it could have been much better with respect to what they charge :-) Pool was not healthy, provided the hotel staff already knew the kind of traffic they would receive during the first weekend of the vacation! All in all because of the location, the property itself and the weather..it was a nice stay 👌👍

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Not Recommended for Corporate Events Date of Visit: January 9, 2024 Our company team recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Hotel Solar Bangla in Kolaghat on January 9th. Regrettably, our stay was marred by extremely poor customer service and uncooperative staff. From the outset, we encountered issues with the staff's lack of cooperation, especially when dealing with a billing concern. Despite our continuous attempts to resolve the matter through calls and emails, we were met with utter indifference. It was disheartening to find no assistance available, with the staff passing the responsibility back and forth between the property and the head office. Attempting to contact the head office proved to be an exercise in frustration, as our calls were placed on hold for extended periods without any resolution. The overall experience felt more akin to dealing with a government office, with an astonishing level of irresponsibility displayed by the hotel's employees. Given the hectic and unprofessional behavior we encountered, we cannot recommend Hotel Solar Bangla for any type of corporate event. The lack of accountability and the indifferent attitude of the staff make it a less-than-ideal choice for business gatherings. We sincerely hope that the management addresses these issues promptly to provide a better experience for future guests.
