The gym is good and the employees are friendly and unpretentious. I would give 5 stars except for the fact that out of the 10 TVs they have on, 10 of them are showing either FOX, CNN, MSNBC, or other news channels. I am demotivated from using any cardio machine since they all face those TVs. It is a constant stream of depressing and unsettling sensationalist news that promotes fear, hate, division, and anxiety. It really affects my exercise experience. I leave the gym feeling the world is a terrible place and is going to end any moment from now. That's not why I go to the gym. The reason why I go to the gym is to work on my pecs and BMI, and news channels make me feel like I should stay home, eat a family-size bag of Cheetos, and fall asleep with my hands and mouth covered in orange dust.

Thanks for addressing my nitpicky concerns! -- Been coming here for about a year now and it's been a good experience. The staff are very friendly and it's usually not too busy. I'll sometimes have to wait a couple minutes for a station but it's never too long. The machines are well-kept and clean.

Update 2018 Island Fitness is a great place to work out. Although I love to complain that my trainer, Loretta, is torturing me, she is, in fact, working to keep me strong. Having a personal trainer is very important so that I exercise correctly without causing myself any injury. I always look forward to my massage therapy with Carol to finish off the week. Island Fitness is a perfect place to work out, have a steam or massage or just visit with old friends before one of the many free classes. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the trainers are top notch. They are able to work with newbies and serious bodybuilders. I have no reservations recommending Island Fitness. Update 2017 My wife, Leona, and I were at Island Fitness on January 2nd, when she had a cerebellar stroke. Because of the quick response by trainer and massage therapist, Carol O’Neill, in calling 911, a potentially life-threatening situation was avoided. I am forever grateful for the concern shown by owners, Alexa and Michael Rosenthal, for Leona’s welfare, and for our personal trainer, Loretta Stanton’s continuing efforts to help restore Leona’s balance and confidence. Looking at her today, you’d never know she had a stroke just weeks ago. The care and professionalism of the owners and personnel of Island Fitness team to their members is immeasurable.

Been going here for 15 years. A good mix of up to date machines and free weights. In an old bowling alley, still has the old lanes as floors in some spots. Local owned and operated be friendly people who know what they're doing. Not a large chain place by far. Clean facilities, great equipment, friendly staff. Oh yeah, and trainers and classes too if you wish. Pilates as well. I love working out here.

Great gym! Upbeat staff who are approachable and always ready to help. Excellent selection of machines that are all high quality and well maintained. I dont care for gyms that just have a room crammed with 50 treadmills personally, so I really appreciate the selection at Island Fitness. It's an interesting dynamic layout with a central studio, a stretching area, a spin room and a complete free weights area. Every strength training machine you could wish for too! I haven't had a massage yet, but it's awesome to know it's readily available for me to take advantage of. I love going to this gym!

Cardio machines and a wide range of well maintained weight machines. No courts or spa stuff but for strength training it's the best I've found on the island.

Equipment is up to date and we'll maintained. The staff is where this place earns the excellent from me. Helpful, informative, driven, inspiring, reliable, and friendly. If I end up moving here, this is the gym for me. NOTE: yes, I am only a guest. However, when I am here I frequent this gym with my significant other and this is by far my favorite gym when I travel.

Update 2018 I like challenges when I work out. Whether it’s the plank or wall sit challenge, the Summer Sizzle, or rowing two half-marathons this year (21,097 meters each) on the indoor erg, I can always count on my trainer, Loretta, and nutritionist, Alexa, to get me through the work that needs to be done. I love Island Fitness because it isn’t a one-size-fits-all gym. My programs are designed especially for me so that, if I do the necessary work, I am successful, and, in addition, Zumba with Josh is terrific! Update 2017 On January 2nd, while at Island Fitness, I suffered a cerebellar stroke. I didn’t know it at the time because I had no paralysis, speech or visual impairment -- what I thought of as “typical” stroke symptoms. I experienced extreme dizziness, nausea and an inability to walk – all affecting my balance controlled by the cerebellum. Thankful for the kindness of Oly Gallagher (Zumba instructor), Douglas (front desk) and Barbara and Suzanne from the Zumba class, and the quick response by Carol O’Neill (Personal Trainer and Massage Therapist), paramedics were called and I was eventually taken to Harrison Hospital. Within two days, I was transferred to Swedish Medical Rehab Facility and sent home on Sunday, January 8th. The physical and occupational therapists were amazed at my progress and saw no reason to keep me any longer. I, as well as the therapists, attribute my extraordinarily quick recovery to Loretta Stanton, my personal trainer at Island Fitness. For years, she has focused on, and emphasized, the importance of balance in our training sessions especially as I’ve gotten older (now 65). In less than two days, I was able to walk unassisted. If you saw me, you’d never know I had a stroke just a few weeks ago. I am forever grateful to Island Fitness and, particularly, Loretta, for her dedication, knowledge and commitment to the health and well-being of her clients. 2016: Island Fitness is a great place to workout. The owners, Alexa and Michael, are fantastic business people. They know how to treat their clients. I've participated in lots of activities offered over the many years, including cycling, TRX and zumba - teachers are well-trained and lots of fun. I've been with a fantastic personal trainer, Loretta, for years (as well as a year with Jennie). Alexa, who does nutrition counseling, is both supportive and knowledgeable. It's amazing how little we know about what we eat! With all the help I receive from the great people at Island Fitness, I'm looking forward to many more years at Island Fitness to continue a healthy lifestyle.

My family and I have been members of Island Fitness Bainbridge for over six years. We have enjoyed many of the classes, including Yoga, Body Pump, and Kickboxing. We have all worked with personal trainers and greatly benefitted from their expertise. I especialy enjoy the variety of weights and exercise machines.

Island Fitness on Bainbridge Island is a health resource for the whole community, including senior citizens and persons with physicial impairments who aspire to optimize fitness. We are warmly welcomed, encouraged, and inspired by those in their physical prime (never disparaged). Working with a personal trainer, I am gradually building strength, unexpected for someone diagnosed with a rare muscle-wasting disease.

There's a reason Island Fitness keeps getting voted best of Bainbridge!! The staff is so caring, communicative, always goes above and beyond. The equipment is well maintained, there are TONS of amazing classes to choose from, and the instructors and trainers are all incredibly talented and know just how to put you at ease and help you feel your best.

Tanya is a gifted NIA instructor - facilitator - partner! She has a playful, nurturing spirit which she brings to every class. One can always rely on a class filled with exploration and delight. Tanya promotes fellowship among her partners in this dance. Each class begins and ends with her request that we be intentional in the care of our mind, body and soul. The life lessons we experience with her in the sacred space she creates can be relied upon to spill out into our day to day AND thus impacting not only ourselves but a much bigger circle in and outside our world! That’s pretty amazing! From the start I felt Tanya’s open mind and kind energy - something I sorely needed in the messiness of my life. Her calm, open personality continues to create an atmosphere of acceptance, freedom and yes fun for all of us! Her bright light is contributing to many healing journeys! Tanya has a way of infusing classic NIA technique with her unique style while promoting “your way” and “listen to your body”. I am always filled to the point of overflowing with positive energy and simply feeling good - and always, always wanting to come back for more. Tanya’s classes are truly about listening and responding to the needs of your mind and body. She so joyfully encourages self-expression and makes a connection with every person in class. I have had so many conversations with those who have participated in a class with me who feel as I do - that NIA has touched their lives outside the class setting: feel more open to new experiences, more fulfilled, less stressed and most importantly start and end each day with more warmth, gratitude and joy! Three cheers for Tanya Agnew - the best of them all! What a grand and glorious day - the day she came into the class as a substitute teacher at Island Fitness Center! A new day has dawned with the magic of Tanya and NIA!

I worked with Gavin on an evaluation of muscle pattern function, and he listened with a calm empathy and seemed to be very thorough, getting on the floor to compare my foot positioning. He didn’t rush me and I felt like he genuinely cared to make sense of the puzzle that is my back pain.

Loretta and Quinton, trainers at Island Fitness, have made such a positive impact on our family's life and overall well-being. My family and I made the decision in November 2021, to summit Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Adams in 2022 for my fiftieth birthday. Our thirteen year old son began strength training with Quinton and, taking the glowing recommendation from a close friend, I began training with Loretta. This was in December 2021. It is now late March 2022 and our transformation thus far is significant. Quinton and Loretta assessed asymmetrical strength and both large and fine muscle function and have worked with us to create balance and core strength. Quinton is thoughtful, engaged and highly experienced with the youth population. Loretta has helped me recover from and build strength after two injuries last year. She’s my hero. My entire family is now reengaged with the backcountry, strapping on packs every weekend for our training hikes. I can’t wait to summit Mt. Adams in July, thanks to the guidance and advocacy of Quinton and Loretta. Stacy Marshall Founder, Owen’s Playground co-Owner, Grounds for Change Coffee Roastery

Great staff. Great environment. I have been coming to Island Fitness for years. The facility is well maintained, staff are very friendly and every facet of their business is done with care and professionalism. I have utilized most of their offerings. Tony Held is a fantastic massage therapist, Gavin DeWitt is a great personal trainer, and the equipment and cleanliness can't be beat.

Great gym, I have been training here for about a month. Location is convenient since I work in Seattle and come here after I get off ferry. Staff is friendly, customer service is great, and facility is nice. Good range of equipment/cardio pieces and weight room is great. Lots of knowledgeable people and vibe is friendly. Just walk in and ask for a tour if you want to check it out!

Island Fitness hires wonderful people! My experience is limited to yoga teachers and the administrative and reception staff. The teachers all have different styles, but they are all extremely knowledgeable and I enjoy the variety. I have had only positive experiences with the administrative and front desk staff. On top of that, the club is well maintained and clean.

For me; perfect in every way!...well, ok, I do have one suggestion that I would find helpful re: the TVs. It has to do with the closed caption banner that runs across the bottom of most screens. I believe it is possible to relocate the banner placement to a different part of the TV screen, so as not to interfere with the programs' frequent banners. Maybe at the top of the screen? Thanks for considering! C.

A few months ago, I began searching on Bainbridge and beyond for a gym with treadmills that will go above the standard 12% incline. I was very excited to learn my local gym, Island Fitness carries Free Motion trainers that go to an astounding 30% so I signed up immediately. No other local gyms carry this type of equipment and it’s perfect for prepping for mountain races, hikes in the Olympics, and overall fitness. As someone who likes to track mileage, vertical gain and HR their treadmills have been an absolute game changer. The iFit compatibility can upload data to the Garmin and/or Strava platforms so I can track my progress as I go. More importantly, the treadmills have jumpstarted my training and enabled me to be much more efficient with my time. It’s just not practical or feasible for me to drive to the mountains every day when I can get a similar stimulus from their incline trainers plus have time left over for strength work. Thank you, Island Fitness!!!

I need to give a huge shout out to trainer, Diane P. She helped me prepare for my first multi day trek in Patagonia recently. She worked with me to give me a program that worked with my schedule, kept it interesting over multiple months and also guided me to local hikes as part of my training. As a hiker herself, Diane was amazing at helping me prepare in so many ways including pack weight, footwear, diet, strength, cardio and endurance. I am so grateful for her and her expertise. I also appreciate her constant awareness around keeping me healthy as I trained. Her training regimen allowed me to enjoy an amazing trip. I highly recommend Diane.

Island Fitness is the most inclusive and friendly gym I've ever been to! I love taking the classes offered. The Body pump and CKBC with Steven Joyner are two of my favorites! He keeps the class motivated and laughing. Other members are very friendly and supportive and the front desk is always helpful, funny, and friendly. This is the best continued streak of exercise I've had in years (5 months straight)! Even through the temporary closure due to Covid-19 many instructors are offering free classes through zoom online! I've really been enjoying Yoga with Sherry Eckert. She is a great instructor! Thank you Island Fitness! I can't wait until you open again! -Kaylee
