This hotel was "mid". The location downtown was convenient if your plans are in that area. Otherwise, you have to drive through some sketch parts of town to get to dining. Upon arrival we heard front desk on the phone sealing with staffing issues but he still helped us get checked in. The room immediately smelled like mildew when we walked in. The iron did not work and there was no hair dryer as advertised. I got a "deal" from an app but I would say the discounted rate was too much. It may have been great in it's hay day but can use some attentive employees.

Quick one-night stay. Room was large, clean, and comfortable for a reasonable price. Comfortable bed. The AC could use some updating, took a long time to cool the room down from 80+ degrees and the unit was very loud. Also, shutters instead of curtains made for a pretty bright room in the morning.

Very comfortable rooms. We stayed for one night as a rest stop. Found it to be very safe because the entire location is fenced off and there is security patrol. The room is spacious with a comfortable bed, and convenient layout with all the necessities. And it’s very clean. We brought our dog and he was able to walk around the parking lot and there are small grass areas for relief with trash cans nearby. The pool is also fenced within the complex. Ideal spot for resting a night, a business trip that doesn’t need to be fancy or a weekend event. The area around is also in a safer spot. Nice staff.

“Exclusive”; my treatment here, was just that! I could not ask for more. Im a paraplegic that travels for business almost an entire month and have been doing so for 4 years now and i have to say that if i had found this jewel of a Hotel from the beginning of my travels, i would be a Diamond member at this point. These first 3 stays have been exquisite. I appreciate the accommodations made at the last minute to make sure my needs are met. No need for me to make a note or leave a memo for a shower bench; they have everything fitted to my needs. The price for the stay per night is almost unbelievable; near restaurants; enclosed and secure; definitely feel at home away from home here.

I love staying here. I would travel from Cleveland to Bakersfield and stay every two months for a couple days at the Best Western, as my doctor, who is a specialist, is located in Bakersfield. I did this back and forth for the past four years. I only stayed at the Best Western on Truxton. The rooms were always so clean and immaculate. The staff is so friendly and they are always so very helpful and are fast to accommodate you when you have an issue, which I really only had one issue during the past four years. The air conditioning went out in my room and so I was given a new room immediately upon letting the front desk know. The people who work here are truly amazing, they are like family and I will always recommend staying here 🤗💙💖

We arrived at close approximately 10 pm on 10/17/23, and were greeted by a friendly and helpful desk clerk. The lobby and grounds were clean and orderly, as was the building our room was located in. Our room was downstairs, in the building to the right of the pool. We were immediately hit with a dank and musty smell when we opened the door to our room. The entire room smelled like moldy, wet rags. The restroom smelled moldy and musty. One of the closet doors was broken as well. Yes, I could've gone back to the desk and requested to move rooms. After working an 8 hr day and a 5 hour drive directly after with my older aunt, all l wanted to do was have some quiet sleep. We turned on the AC to recirculate the air and just went to bed. The bed was hard as a board. Room is outdated but did have a fridge. Still, I would expect a little more for what I paid for the night. I advised the desk person when we checked out. Her response was that they were short help. Not sure what that has to do with the wet, moldy smell. That is not an overnight issue. It permeated the entire room and restroom. They had to know there was an issue there. I think there must have been a water leak or something. It was terrible. Obviously, no housekeeping supervisor or site manager has walked the property to check rooms, or maybe they just don't care? How could they not know that room smelled as bad as it did? Location wise, there is a Denny's not too far from them. Our room was quiet and location was easy access to and from the highway so that is a plus. Still, I would not stay again.

Front desk staff very polite and accommodating. Had to change rooms. Sheets were very dirty and stained. It was so obvious. If they wash them themselves they need to use a professional linen service instead. I was switched to another room. Fridge did not close properly as the entire seal on the door was coming off. Worst BestWestern I have ever stayed in.

I didnt go to the hotel here, but Google won't leave me alone about it. I went to the restaurant at the hotel. Which was a five-star experience. I gave three stars for the hotel because if I told Google I didn't go there it erases my review of the fabulous restaurant. So there.

Older but remodeled hotel. It's clean and the staff is very friendly. I'm not sure why but there was a big party going on out in the back parking lot with tables and chairs, people riding quads across the lot. It definitely didn't feel safe to park my car there, so we parked in the other lot farther away from our room. When we came back around 10 pm it was bigger and louder than it was earlier. Still bo parking though. Also still no real breakfast offered, just bags. I probably won't stay here again

Giving this place a one star rating is being generous. Our family booked 3 separate rooms here while we drove from Phoenix to SF. We booked these rooms around new years, plenty of time in advance. We did this because one of our party needs a handicap accessible room. We received a call around 230, 30 minutes prior to check in, that the handicap accessible room We booked months in advance was no longer avalible. And they had no others available that we could be sure would work. What company does that? Not to mention this place was a total dump, and transients where walking all over the property strung out of their minds. Do yourself a favor, don't stay here.

We needed a place to stay before the Amtrak times the next morning and late bus transfers. The front desk woman was polite and very helpful with member lookup. The lobby has a self serve fridge with Starbucks and travel items. All the soap dispensers are cruelty free and vegan. The king room is spacious with plenty of room to spread our gear out.

The rooms are clean they look like they have been updated in the recent past. The front desk was super sweet and helpful. We came down the night before my sisters surgery, so it was nice having a clean and safe room to rest in before her 5am procedure. We travel with a toy lizard 🦎 and it's always fun to see staff and peoples reactions to him. He does a good room inspection and gives our room a passing grade 🤣

We've stayed several times and have always had a nice stay. Rooms are always clean and front desk staff are very friendly. Having the restaurant on site was nice. Breakfast is a $10 charge but the food was good and well portioned. Easy in and out. It's an older place yes but nice and clean. Walking distance to Mechanics Convention center and close to many great bars and restaurants Felt safe staying there. . Pool and small exercise room. Great for the price. 😀

I stayed here on my way to Sequoia NP. I had a positive experience. Quick check-in( late night). Friendly staff. My room was large (1 king) and clean. Bathroom was clean, too. There was plenty of parking space. Swimming pool looked good, but I didn't have a chance to use it There is a restaurant adjacent to lobby. You can eat there and use a hotel voucher($10) or order off their menu. Restaurant is not owned by the hotel. I had a organic eggs and a coffee, good stuff.

We arrived about 8:30pm, we booked that day. Jackie was at the desk. She was very friendly and helpful with our check in. Also, recommending a restaurant within walking distance, The 18th Street Bar and Grill. Which was excellent, added bonus, they had a Jazz Band. Our room was clean and comfortable, the staff is very nice. They did have a breakfast restaurant, however it is not affiliated with the hotel. We opted for the bagged breakfast, yogurt, fruit, muffins and granola bar. Our stay was good and we will return their again when we are passing through.

Our first room reeked of cigar smoke. The second room looked nice but the air conditioner didn't work (controls locked out from adjusting?) and we slept in a hot room. There was a large dog barking across the hall that woke me up multiple times in the night. The included breakfast turned out to NOT be included, but is an extra charge for a very minimal meal. For the price, false advertising, and limited amenities I would not recommend this Best Western.

This honestly was one of my best experiences. Price was reasonable. Rooms were very clean. I was traveling alone and I felt welcome and secure. I asked for a late checkout and the front desk responded very cheerfully and understanding. I was impressed that they didn't behave like the rest and rush me out with threats of charging my card. The breakfast was healthy and they had mimosa on menu. 😁

Had an excellent stay. Friendly staff. Clean and quiet. We’re glad they brought back the hot breakfast option.

The room smelled like somebody smoked in there and it was a non smoking room. The refrigerator didn't work. The AC didn't work very well. The pool was okay lot of debris. Old and needs updating badly! The bed was old and lumpy. The hallway smells like mold. The cable on the TV didn't work too well very confusing. Need I say more the list goes on. Will not be going back do not recommend. Price was okay I guess.

I love HILL HOUSE. The rooms are spacious & clean. Every staff member is unfailingly competent & courteous. I stay there for weeks at a time. It truly is a second home. Love the big desk for working. Bed is a heavenly cloud. A/C cools comfortably, even during a Bakersfield summer! I can hang my privacy card on my door and know I'll be left alone. [Reasonable exceptions: the water will be off for a short time; or the carpets are being cleaned.] I would invite BEST WESTERN to send an inspector anonymously to stay there and see firsthand how well they do in providing a safe, comfy sanctuary.

Avoid this hotel. Very dirty rooms. No breakfast, not even coffee in the lobby. This hotel is not a Best Western level hotel. A/c didn’t work properly and window didn’t open. Smell in room of mold was very strong. After showering my feet were black from the carpet in 20 minutes. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is NICE! My room was sparkling clean with updated decor and furnishings. The common areas were also very nice and well maintained. Staff was terrific too. I’d chose this hotel again definitely the next time I need one in Bakersfield.

Dated property. Noisy, rattling climate control. Exterior hallway door slams so hard every time people enter/exit that it rattles the building. Marijuana smell in hallway almost constantly. Breakfast is a grab and go affair with off brand sugary muffins, a dry granola bar, a banana and vanilla yogurt. No hardboiled eggs and no other choice of fruit besides a banana. Very nice desk staff. Some interesting characters staying there who appear to be long term residents. Since it looks like the owners have been aware of these issues for a very long time, and choose to not remedy them, I will not be returning. I rely on better when dealing with a worldwide super familiar brand.

Awesome stay! Beds comfortable. All was clean. Check-in smooth. Love the rustic look of the dark wood and staircase. Breakfast was not a hot breakfast and nothing my husband liked, but it was satisfying with water, banana, Activia, granola bar, etc. Thanks for the great stay!

I felt so comfortable at this hotel. We had reservations elsewhere and a very serious situation made it so we couldn’t stay there. My daughter and I had nowhere to go and called this hotel and they had only one room left as it’s cheer comp time. The staff from the phone, to getting to hotel, everything was amazing! They were kind, empathetic and supportive of our situation. I will stay here every time I’m in Bakersfield!!! Thank you staff!!! Oh and beds are comfy, rooms are clean, and check out wasn’t until 11am which is amazing!!!

The stay was alright. I appreciated the service I received and all the employees were friendly and helpful. There were some minor issues. Our room was close to the street so it was a bit noisy. Not on the hotel to deal with that but it’s something to consider. As well as the breakfast being just ok. There were also a could stains on the top bed cover but it wasn’t anything that raised high concern. Overall I enjoyed my stay.

It did the job but wouldn’t stay again... The beds were comfortable and clean, everything else seemed okay clean, our remote for the tv was super gross and sticky. It’s definitely dated, and small. I would have liked to pay $20-$40 less than the rate we paid ($135 for a two queen room). The wall thermostat had buttons missing and I’m not sure if it worked at all, and the wall ac/heater had a broken lid and felt sticky like it hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned either. The bathroom toilet lid slid around, and there was quite a bit of rust in the shower and especially around the shower head. I did really like the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash they have for you there. Overall, I wouldn’t stay there again until they update some things. To me, not worth the price, but not didn’t the job for our one night stay.

We stayed here on our way to San Francesca. Did not know what to expect when we made the reservation. We were pleasantly surprised. Check-in was very smooth. Sweetu was excellent. The room was spacious and clean. We enjoyed our stay and we will definitely stay here if we are in the area. Thank you to the team for making our stay memorable.

The desk person was very friendly, helpful and efficient. She had a smile on her face the whole time. It was a warm welcome. Once in the room, I was surprised by a wet toilet seat. It was also obvious that the bowl was not cleaned (as if the service person was distracted while cleaning and never finished). The pillow case had lipstick and mascara on it (not stains). It was not changed, which made me wonder if any of the bedding was changed.

Absolutely exceeded our expectations! Room was very nice, bed was very comfortable and the price was great. My only concern prior to booking was the homeless, as I am aware of the severe problem in that area, but the hotel was very secure and they absolutely fixed their homeless problem!! Very safe, very secure! We will definitely be staying there again when we need to return for business again.

Very clean, pet friendly, comfortable bed, sofa and desk. Refrigerator came in handy as well. Have stayed here for years and very friendly staff. Would like to see more attention to pool cleaning. Otherwise very reasonable rate that brings us back with every family visit to Bakersfield. We appreciate their No Smoking Policy as well. Our best choice in Bakersfield.

When I first walked into the room I fell in love! The color combinations were so calming. The room was quite spacious. With a king sized bed, a love seat and a coffee table there was still plenty of room to move around. It was very clean and nice and quiet even though I was by the entrance. They had the neatest window coverings! It was inside shutters that blocked a lot of the light when I flipped the slats upward. The one thing I would suggest is that if you order delivery you need to keep an eye on the app because two delivery and Uber drivers had a hard time finding the entrance. I would recommend this place and will certainly be back.

The room was very clean, the beds were so comfortable I didn't want to leave! The lady at the front desk went above and beyond her duties to help me out about the surrounding area and was very nice! The only downside was that I only wanted to stay in a hotel with a pool and the pool was disgusting, I stayed 2 nights when I was checking out they said the pool guy was coming out to fix the pool! I wish I knew ahead of time!

We have stayed at Best Western Hill House on four occasions since April 22. The rooms are very nice, quite, and clean. The staff has always been very friendly, and accommodating. We grew up in Bakersfield, and moved to another state in April. We come back at least once a month for Family, so I am reasonably sure that we will be staying wit them again soon.

Booked a room here with my golden retriever. There were a lot of guests with dogs as well. Despite being a dog friendly hotel, the grounds, rooms and hallways smelled clean and fresh. We also were never disturbed by any dogs barking — they may have good noise insulation. I also appreciated their COVID 19 Protocols regarding breakfast. Instead of a breakfast buffet, they give you 3 choices. I got the bacon breakfast burrito - it was huge and yummy.

My boyfriend had to come to Bakersfield for work and many say don't walk around at night in this town and i think that would be best, lots of street action with the homeless 24/7 and not many street lights in town. i felt pretty safe here. There is only one way in and one way out of the property they don't let shady folks roam around, it is secure all the way around with tall bars. the pool is warm and the buildings are nice. The manager was very personable nice, and accommodating. The only thing i was unhappy about was the breakfast, its a sack breakfast and i was so looking forward to a hot meal.
