I’ve had multiple bad experiences at the South Frederick location. There is constantly trash in the sauna for starters. What really bothers me more is the way Mason and a front desk employee address patrons. I’ll start with Mason who told me to go talk to someone else when I was trying you add two people onto my membership! TERRIBLE SALESMANSHIP! You NEVER turn the customer away! Most recently was yesterday, New Year’s Eve, when I was attempting to bring my son who was visiting to the gym. A front desk employee, not sure of his name but he wears dangly earrings, refused my son access unless we paid $15 for the day! Having been in the Fitness industry on the corporate level for over a decade, I know this is not how anyone, especially a paying member, should be treated! Do better South Frederick! Thank goodness for Aaron and the North Frederick One Life team who were extremely accommodating! Highly recommend making the few extra minutes drive to the North Frederick location! It’s a much larger, cleaner and professionally run facility!

Do not go here. While the facilities themselves are vast and probably great, unfortunately the patrons who frequent this gym are not. Not only is this gym overflowing with military grunts from fort detrick but none of them have the decency, forethought, or understanding to clean down their equipment, keep a decent social distance or even wear a mask while in the gym. Same goes for the staff.

Gym equipment is good BUT the MAJOR issue is the manager and personal trainers. Your membership means nothing unless you spend money with their personal trainers. If they have a client they are able to kick you off equipment, move you, and do so with out explaining or saying a word to you. Multiple times I had a personal trainer move my personal stuff without asking, put mats down in the middle of my workout, take over equipment/area being used, and went out of his way to be disrespectful. Multiple times this happened and I said nothing. When I finally said something his response was his client paid and he does what he wants there. When I said that isn’t right he squared up to me and let me know he was in charge so at that point I let him know about himself. I was informed by the manager that I was the one at fault and I need to ask permission to use the equipment if a personal trainer has a client in any of the areas. Extremely DISRESPECTFUL!!! Worst part is the manager approves and even encourages the actions of a power abusing bully. Be prepared to ask permission to use equipment or an area even if there is only one person training. Not a good environment to work out in! On a positive note many of the staff are great people and a pleasure to be around and see everyday!

Very rude staff. I just moved to Frederick and was in search of a suitable fitness center. I decided to try Onelife Fitness - South Frederick and applied for a free pass. When I get there, the staff (maybe manager) very suspicious about my driver's license (flipping it back and forth hastily), and says I cannot use it because I am not local resident. While I understood their policy, I politely asked for more information about the membership options. The staff was extremely rude and just give me a number of the price, without any additional details or explanations. When I requested further information, he simply gave me another number and mentioned it was the price for accessing all fitness centers. That's it. He seemed like not wanted to talk to me at all, and was solely focused on making me pay or leave. I will never return to this facility!

I have been a member of one life for 4 years in Hagerstown MD. Recently moved to Frederick MD. This gym is very dated, with old and worn-out equipment, and the bathrooms are not well maintained either. The showers are often dirty and the lockers are broken. It’s also very dark inside the gym, which creates a gloomy atmosphere. The staff are friendly enough, but they don’t seem to care about the quality of the gym or the satisfaction of the customers. I don’t think this gym is worth the money. I would not recommend this location.

As a gym, it has a lot of the machines and equipment that I need but when it comes to cleanliness, this location needs A LOT, and I mean A LOTTT of help and tbh the customer service is not that great. However, my main issue is with how f’in gross they keep their men’s locker room. The men’s locker room is disgusting, the showers are gross and the suana…don’t get me started, it looks like it has never been cleaned! I was even told by a trainer that he wouldn’t go into the suana bc it’s never been cleaned since he has been working there, and he has been there for years. Also, it’s super frustrating when they run out of plastic laundry bags to put your sweaty cloths or towels in. As of today, it’s been a week and a half, nearly two weeks since they have ran out of plastic laundry bags - unacceptable! It’s like they order one at a time and then when it runs out, it doesn’t get fulfilled for weeks. And when you bring it up to someone they say “oh idk, I’m not in charge of that”. Like how hard is it to order that in bulk? As members, we pay dues and fees and not having tissues, paper towels, sometimes toilet paper and plastic laundry bags is simply unacceptable. Do better OneLife

Very poor management & training team with little customer orientation and a very sales oriented approach. We were persuaded to join the EP program which is a very standard set of exercises that can be obtained through any internet program or app. The true value is in personalized coaching, of which there was very little customization based on issues discussed. Feedback on progress/assessments were also performed only when asked for with a lot of defensiveness to try different approaches when the results were not obtained. The final cancellation process was the worst where the team led by Mason & John stopped replying or started providing very curt responses to requests for cancellation - shows they do not understand the concept of returning customers or probably care less about them. Also realized that I was probably a victim of fraud where I was made to sign a 12 months agreement with making it very difficult to get out of without penalties when I clearly remember it was told that the cancellation process had a 30 days notice that I was happily willing to bear. Would most likely avoid dealing with this group of folks again or go in with my eyes wide open without an iota of trust on what's verbally told to me. The General Manager (I think Bill), is a gentleman and our interactions with him, though limited have been very pleasant and professional. I hope he takes note and makes a few necessary changes to retain customers.

The other OneLife fitness (north) is INCREDIBLE! Go there! They have great staff, classes, equipment,a pool! It’s clean, friendly, and has a lot to offer, this one has weights. Staff seemed ok, they have a classes room, the yoga teacher was good. But people don’t wipe machines and it doesn’t appear to be encouraged, no social distancing.

I’ve changed my previous review from 1 to 2 stars. The gym still needs serious work with cleaning. I’ve attached pictures below of the trash still in the sauna. If you don’t care about cleanliness then it’s a good workout spot. Downside, apart from lack of cleanliness, not enough plates!

Mason has the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced with a company. On two separate occasions, he was extremely unhelpful and unfriendly. Working at a gym includes a lot of customer service, and if you have zero amount of that you should not be working with the public. Onelife Fitness needs to investigate and replace Mason if they want to keep customers.

For the relative lack of amenities, the cost of membership here doesn’t make sense. $40/month will go a lot further at many other gyms in Frederick. It’s often busy & I typically found myself waiting for machines. The hours of operation didn’t leave much flexibility in my schedule. Closing at 8pm Friday’s & by 9 or 10pm on other days made it difficult to make it in as much as I would’ve liked to. I signed up for a one year contract with OneLife that turned into a month-to-month afterwards. They failed to mention how complicated canceling my membership would be when I signed up. I had to go through a corporate email & missed the 30 thirty day notice for cancellation by one day as I waited days for a response (I was never informed of this policy prior to attempting to cancel). Ended up paying for 2 months at this gym beyond my one-year that I didn’t expect I’d have to pay for.

Horrible horrible organization. They promised a new facility in Martinsburg WV years ago, so we joined and eagerly waited to move up from the outdated, run down facility they have now. COVID hit, and they dropped plans to build a new facility, and have yet to have any substantial plans to do anything 2 plus years later. I understand they took a hit but didn't we all? I didn't take back promises I made to my customers though. My wife held onto our memberships in hope they would ever come through but there is no substantial hopes in sight. I don't know how you can sleep at night after doing such dirty business. This facility is nice, but the local branch is run by liars, and dishonest people

Great gym at a great value! Plenty of equipment for both cardio and weight lifting. The staff is super friendly, and the gym is always kept very clean. Gets crowded (as every good gym does) around 5-7pm on week nights, but I’m always able to get onto the equipment I want with minimal to no wait. Leland at the front office has been especially helpful and accommodating recently when I had family in town visiting and wanted to get them situated with guest passes. Thanks Leland!

  • 4/5 Emma 1 year ago on Google
Overall it is a decent gym. The only caveat that I would caution people to is that if you are a student or planning on leaving the area, cancel your membership a full month before the first day of the month you are planning on leaving. Otherwise you will pay for an extra month. Ex. if you are leaving for college in August, they need to have your proof of relocation on/before July 31 or they will charge you for August and September. Make sure that you give adequate time for all communications to process. If you cancel in July, you will still have to pay your August bill, but the subscription will stop in September. I was under the impression that if you cancelled your membership mid-month, you would not be billed for the following month, but perhaps that's on me for not grabbing a copy of my membership agreement after I signed it. Aside from that, the gym is clean, the staff is friendly, and it's a decent workout atmosphere.

As a traveler, I am very grateful for the flexibility of Onelife South. Mason and his staff made me feel at home from the moment I walked in and got me hooked up with a two week pass for a Great price. Great venue, great equipment, and great people!

Over the 9 months of being a member the gym has had some physical changes, the biggest one being there is now 3 new squat racks and 2 (I think) wooden platforms for deadlifts. All equipment at the gym seems to be well maintained. No matter what training you are into, they have the equipment at this facility. Whenever I am there is always someone cleaning the locker room and/or vacuuming the main floor. Some people have complained about not being able to use the explosive performance area when classes/ training is going on. If you ask one of the EP trainers if you can use it, most likely they will say yes. Been a member for about 9 months as of now and I am very satisfied with this gym. I have had experience with 2 trainers at this gym and they were both very knowledgeable, professional, and personable at the same time. My fitness IQ has increased exponentially since I started training with them and I am very grateful for that. Yes there are other OL locations that have a pool, basketball court, sauna, etc., but I never cared for those things and for 30 dollars a month I get what I want out of the south Frederick location. Strongly recommend you check this gym out if you live in Frederick and even Montgomery county. I am giving this place 4/5 stars because I have no experience with the gym at peak hours, so I am not able to judge how well things are truly spread out and the quantity of equipment.

Great Gym! This location is clean and has a lot of equipment. Everything is in working order. If you are looking for a great Trainer please ask for Klay. He's honestly Amazing!! He works with you to ensure your safety, while also pushes you to get the best results. This location is without a pool unforunately, but everything else you could need is right here. Decent parking as well.

Absolutely terrible customer service. After a year of struggling with this company I am cancelling my membership. I'm over being told to email my questions and never getting a response. The final nail in the coffin is being told membership services no longer accepts phone calls and that they only deal with emails. In theory that sounds easy but I'm not up for exchanging a boat load of emails to have my questions answered when a five minute (or less) phone call could solve the issue. What kind of company doesn't accept phone calls in membership services?

  • 5/5 Mike D. 1 year ago on Google
I have been a member here for about a month. I left another gym in the area due to other member's behaviors (My review is on Google if interested under my account). That being said, the reasons I left the other gym are non existent in this gym. The staff is super friendly, the machines and weights are top notch, other members are great, and overall this gym has a great "gym culture" associated with it. There are so many things to lift and get a good session in you will never be standing around waiting on a piece of equipment, which is great. Weights are put away after someone is done using them, areas are wiped down before and after use, and everyone is there for the same reasons, to get better. No one judges and people are friendly, regardless of the few insecure people who wrote reviews on here stating otherwise. This gym reminds me of the gym I went to growing up in the 90s as a teenager, I love it and I cant recommend it enough. Do yourself a favor, come check it out for a week, and I bet you switch up gyms and start coming here on the regular.

I’ve been using this gym for years. I’m returning this time again because I think for the price it’s the best option around at the times I go it’s never crowded. They did some upgrading and removed the stuff that wasn’t used. This time around returning to the gym I’m commuting in from another city because I work in Frederick. I have to use the showers and facilities before work and I just have to say the ladies locker and shower room needs to be redone so bad. For what I just paid for in personal training sessions and everyone else, we deserve nice showers and locker rooms.

  • 2/5 Jessica J. 10 months ago on Google
The staff at the gym is friendly but trying to cancel was a nightmare. I asked member services for confirmation of my cancellation and radio silence or dodging the question is what I got. I've asked more than once for confirmation of cancellation. It really shouldn't be so difficult.

Being a long time ONELIFE gym member, I sometimes try new locations just to change things up. This gym was obviously another gym purchased by ONELIFE and upgraded. Although the place has had a face-lift, a lot of the equipment is dated but that doesn't mean it's not good. I love that they have lots of Hammer Strength machines as I have used most of them over the years at different gyms. If you need 2.5 and 5 lb plates good luck...you will have to search the gym floor. One thing that is particularly disgusting is the men's locker room, showers, and sauna. ONELIFE should really close the location and gut that area because it's one of the most disgusting locker rooms I have seen in my 40 years of gym going. Flooded water pudding around the shower floor, mold, rotted wood, tiles falling off, dirt....just disgusting. Its beyond what could be achieved through a deep cleaning. The dark dingy sauna has trash under the bench, and just needs to be gutted. Knowing the high standards of ONELIFE....surprised it hasn't been taken care of as a priority. Still, a decent place to get a workout and I am sure it will only improve as time goes by now that ONELIFE is owner.

Great gym and will get 5 stars easily if they add some multipurpose racks in the lower section. To me, it's logical. They used to have it and it was great. No idea why they changed it but it's an easy fix and upgrade

I’ve been going to Onelife SF since July and since October recurring payment issues have been occurring. Starting with numerous workers saying I owed money, however my account was setup for direct deposit and I had already paid. Then over the last two months I have been over charged, and have tried speaking to the manager along w 5 other workers to resolve this yet they can’t seem to charge me the right amount. This gym is very poorly ran and seems to always be having issues

Good equipment and more than enough space to avoid crowding. Barbells could be a bit better (knurling is basically nonexistant on every barbell except the single power bar in the gym). It would also be cool if the gym was open at 5 on weekends like every other day of the week.

  • 5/5 Anthony D. 3 years ago on Google
TLDR; A great gym with excellent equipment, plenty of space, and great people. This gym has excellent equipment to get a real strength workout and build mass. The front desk staff were great to work with and set up our membership, especially Clayton, who always welcomed us each day. The gym is well kept, has bright, open space which is clean during COVID. Everyone wore masks, respected each others space, and was super friendly if you wanted certain machines.

I used to go to this gym for years, I’ve been a member of north Frederick as well. I always loved this gym, and preferred the south over the north location. Love this gym. Been working out here for a couple years. Has everything you need for a complete workout. Doesn’t matter if you power lift, bodybuild, hiit workout or just basic weight lifting you can do it all. Great amount of cardio machines and always has someone cleaning. While south doesn’t have the pool I rank it above north due to south’s lay out. Staff doesn’t bother you. They are very nice and greet you when you come in. They have a wall where you can read the personal trainers bio and certifications. Bathrooms and shower area is clean as well as the locker room. Equipment is outstanding. I wish they were 24 hours or close at 12. I work 12 hour shifts and I prefer to workout after work. Granted in these COVID times everything has changed. All in all you get your money’s worth and the tools to get in shape anyway you want.
