Very old fashion pub… is located in one of the most famous landmarks of London opposite the Big Ben…. The service was slow the waitresses did not play attention when I was calling them. The food was ok. The toilets were disgusting I even found poo on the floor. This pub could be a lovely place if they put the effort to give better service

St. Stephen’s Tavern is a wonderful Iconic traditional English Pub to grab a beer and and some good ole Fish ‘n Chips or English Steak Pie after visiting Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and House of Parliament. Prices are decent and the staff is friendly. It was established in 1875 and is one of six pubs around Parliament. Known Prime ministers to frequent the pub include Winston Churchill, Stanley Baldwin and Harold Macmillan. Gorgeous views of Big Ben and the House of Parliament. It’s at the Westminster Tube stop. The pub still has the original division bell which rings, warning MPs that there are only a few minutes to vote. I highly recommend stopping in for a beer!

Always pop into this beautiful pub for a drink if I’m in the area. Despite the premium location the prices for food and drink are pretty decent. A good selection of beers - some craft and and normal - which is really appreciated. Food is tasty too and served quickly. Staff are always great.

When wandering through London's historic heart, a stone's throw from the iconic Big Ben, you'll stumble upon a quintessentially British gem - St. Stephen's Tavern. This traditional pub is not just a place to quench your thirst; it's a slice of London's history, offering a cozy refuge with unbeatable views of the parliamentary clock tower. If you're crafting a London bucket list, pencil in a visit to St. Stephen's Tavern for an authentic British pub experience, complete with delectable fish and chips and a splendidly chilled cider. St. Stephen's Tavern boasts a heritage as rich as its menu. Here's a quirky tidbit: the pub's clock is permanently set to 8:00, a nod to the time when the tavern would fill with Members of Parliament hurrying in after the division bell rang, signaling a vote. The atmosphere inside is as timeless as the decor, with wood-paneled walls and historical paraphernalia that tell tales of political banter and decision-making over pints. The location could hardly be more perfect. Nestled in the heart of Westminster, St. Stephen's Tavern offers a front-row seat to London's political epicenter, making it an ideal spot for those looking to soak in the city's historic ambiance while enjoying a hearty meal and a cold drink. The fish and chips here are a must-try, perfectly crispy and golden, best enjoyed with a side of their famously refreshing cider. In a city brimming with dining options, St. Stephen's Tavern stands out for its blend of history, location, and traditional British fare. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a foodie, or just in search of a cozy spot to rest after a day of sightseeing, this pub ticks all the boxes. So, next time you're in London, make your way to St. Stephen's Tavern, raise a glass under the gaze of Big Ben, and immerse yourself in the authentic charm of a London institution. Don't forget to snap a picture and share it; this is one experience you'll want to remember (and your friends will want to like!).

A very classic London pub localized across the street from the Big Ben. Even though it is in a very touristic region, the pub keeps its local culture and offers a very fair price. It is a good place for having a beer and a quick bite while resting from walking. There are tables outside with a view of the Big Ben.

I loved thistypical British pub. Just outside Westminster station. It was busy for a Sunday late afternoon, but not enough to be overwhelming and not be able to find a table or chat. Staff was amazing, and I took my elderly father and was so pleased with how looked after he felt. Thank you all. It was the first drink out since my mum died and managed to make my dad have a good time

An oft overlooked little gem on Westminster bridge. Fine beer and helpful staff, made to look very Victorian. Sherlock Holmes used to be a regular and even Dr Watson would pop in for the odd Badger bitter or two. A good place to call in for a pint or some Fish and Chips!

Best Fisn n' Chips we've ever had! We ate here with my wife's parents and we all loved the food so much. And it's so close to Big Ben, you're practically eating in its shadow! The best place to have some fish n chips!

Not inexpensive, but with the amount of staff it has and its position and decor it is worth it. You are in a "gin palace" in the shadow of The Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben. It can be crowded and on occasions caters for a number of tourists, but one is noticed and feels safe. I think it's well worth savouring.

Love the old historic feeling I got from here, cost me almost £8 for two lemonades, could do with washing the glasses better tho as myn felt a bit grubby, perfect location for sightseeing refreshments, Big Ben will look better when the scaffolding has gone 👍🏻

Bit small and table are super close to each other. No music at all makes it a bit boring. Staff were super friendly and the place is dog friendly and really cool style.

This is a very decent traditional pub right across from parliament and the Thames. We has a burger and pork pie, both of which were tasty, but not exceptional. The prices are very reasonable. The walls also have lots of politics related antique decor and memorabilia.

The pub is buzzing!! Very crowded and servers are over whelmed but the wait is worth! Food is amazing! The ambience is very 1875 and preserved well!! They even have a food elevator to the top! The servers could use some help but they are very nice! Overall a very good British experience to our Europe trip. Ps. They do not do free refills on soft drinks or sodas :)

Visited early July. It was a decent restaurant to go to if you are around the Big Ben area. Decor is pretty cool and the restaurant was clean. Server was nice. Specialty beer selection was good; we thoroughly enjoyed our selections. We ordered chicken fingers and fish & chips. The chicken fingers were really good; The breading had cracked black pepper and some other seasonings that made it way better than your standard fried chicken finger. The fish & chips were sadly not good. Overall, we enjoyed our visit.

The fish was very soft and delicate. It had a nice crisp to the batter. The chips were decent but not as soft as I would like them. Tar tar sauce was quite sour and the mushy peas were excellent

Following a visit to the Houses of Parliament we found this pub ideally located near by, attracted by the smell of fish and chips we decided to try it out. It was very busy but we were allocated a table for 2 very quickly. Priory appears to be given to customers who require to eat when it is busy. My wife and I had the fish and chips. A good sized fish well cooked as was the chips. The pub is quite small inside, and a little cramped, the tables are only large enough for 2 people to eat from. The toilets are downstairs and could be a problem for people with mobility problems, however there is an easy access toilet on the ground floor. The toilets could do with updating. My wife had a white wine and it was a very generous measure. The staff were very busy and very efficient. Well worth the visit.

We walked in because of the sign outside advertising fish& chips. At first we weren't sure who to check in with. (We also saw a bunch of other people confused throughout our dinner) They should add a sign that says wait here to be seated. Eventually a lady came to us but she almost seemed a little annoyed that we were there haha. We asked if they had room for two. The first level was completely full so she ran upstairs to check. At first I didn't understand if it was okay for us to go up or if we had to wait. Then she saw we hadn't gone up and motioned us up but again she seemed kind of irritated. Upstairs we were seated and placed our order. The food was okay. The fish had a good crisp but the meat inside didn't have much flavor. The fries were okay as well, some were kind of crispy, others kind of soft, but not in a very yummy way, the inside felt kind of dry. Also, I guess having peas on the side is common in England but I didn't love the combination. I didn't mind that much though, it was just the fish and chips weren't amazing. When we got our food, my husband's drink order still hadn't arrived. We asked one of the employees and she brought it by soon after. The ambience here is pretty loud. The people downstairs were cheery and chatty and you can hear it all clearly from upstairs which was fine with me. Overall, the service was kind of slow and not friendly and the food was just okay. And somehow we ended up spending over $80 bucks here for 2 fish and chips and a couple of beers.

Visited last year, okay fish-n-chips. Fish was not quite crispy and had a pronounced fishy smell & taste served with almost cold chips (fries) and rock hard peas. Visited again this year and the fish-n-chips was a bit better, but even though I asked for "crispy," it was still not fried crisp. Places on the fish batter coating were soft and mushy...it needed a bit more time in the hot oil. Still served with almost cold chips and hard peas. The sauce must have sat out for a while because it was old enough that the top was stiff and had a darker, different color. Getting served is a challenge but the wait staff are all very polite. Still, some tables were completely ignored and diners had to get up and ask loudly for help. Great location right across from Big Ben. But the downside is that several bicycle taxi providers park right next to the outside dining area. So there's cigarette smoke and loud talking between the drivers that detracts from the dining area experience. Might be better to add tall plants or a wall barrier to separate the taxis from the diners.

Amazing place! Me and my boyfriend went on July/23. We ate fish and chips, it was delicious. The pub was very crowded, but they found a table for us very quickly! The best part is eating with a view, and what a view: Elizabeth Tower/Big Ben!

Second time visiting. First time was 2015 and I loved it. Came for a second visit in 2023 and I should if skipped it! The service was absolutely horrible! The waitress told me I couldn't get a side of chips because they were rationing them for the fish and chips plates. Then I order the fish and chips and I received 10 chips!!!! If they are out of chips, then tell people that, but don't sell scraps of chips to make them last longer! That's just wrong! And the waitress was just rude not only with me but with everyone around me. It was just a horrible experience and I will never be back!! I gave them 2 stars because the fish was good!

A little confused on how to place food order. Hostess said to order at the bar. I took ro mean drinks at bar. After 10 mins we grabbed the attention of a server to inquire on getting food ordered. She said order food & drinks from at the bar. Ohhhh. Ok. Ten mins later our dish was delivered. That was my fault for not hearing what hostess said. Other than that, drinks & food were on point. I recommend this spot. On the happening strip within eyeball of Big Ben.

Indulge in the quintessential pub experience near Westminster with traditional fare and a refreshing pint. Conveniently located within walking distance of iconic landmarks like the Abbey, Big Ben, and the London Eye. Be prepared for bustling crowds on weekends and peak hours, but the delectable food makes it worth the visit. A personal touch: my parents visiting from India absolutely loved it, especially my dad.

In contrast to many reviews, our service was actually quite lovely. From the array of british classics we ordered Sausages, Pie and Mash, Fish and Chips and a vegetarian Burger. Everything wad really tasty, the beer was great as well. Beforehand I was afraid that because of it‘s location, this pub might be a tourist trap. I was proved wrong, I found we got quite an authentic pub experience. Will gladly come again.

This pub was an absolute disgrace in terms of their toilets and lack of care and cleanliness, spoke to the manager who didn’t really care stating they are checked every hour! Seats broken and no chain to flush the toilet. No way were we going to eat or drink in such a place when their bathroom was such filth!

  • 4/5 Chris T. 1 year ago on Google
Came in for a quick bite to eat. Thank goodness we got there just in time. Even though the bar stays open late. The kitchen closes at 9pm. Great views of Big Ben from the front dining area. Service was friendly and efficient. Had the double burger and fish and chips. Fish and chips were not soggy or soaked in grease. It was light and fresh. And, I've eaten a lot of fish and chips on the Oregon Coast.

Building has clearly been here since the 1960s, staff are very kind and generous. Food looks fantastic and a real old school English vibe here in the day. Ordered a couple of beers on tap, came to just over £11. Fairly hidden away but cosy inside.

I'd drink a Guiness in a perfect place. Good ambient. High level of the service we received of the workers. In center, belong Big Ben.

Lovely small pub near Westminister. Enjoyed a few beers there when we reunited with someone after 20 years. I would have rated them higher had they directed us to a table, rather than let us find our own.

Great place. Nice location. Beer is good. Haven't had the Fish and Chips for ages but are popular. I had the hummus and flatbread. The staff are lovely. Nice selection of Port and wine and Fursty Ferret beer

Two lovely workers, I believe Stephanie and Ugne served me tonight. Two Guinness', two vodka and cranberry, and four Tequila between me and my better half. Absolute stellar pints and delicious shots!! Would 100% recommend. Fab 👍

Lovely food, we went for the chicken burgers. Nice meal, good portions and a nice place to relax. You can sit in or outside to enjoy your food. It's reasonably priced considering you are right next to big Ben, boat rides and Parliament Square. We got two burgers and two pints for just over £40. Staff are polite and helpful!

Easily the best fish and chips I’ve had! The fish is so smooth and buttery and delicious. I did add a decent amount of salt to the fish and chips but that could be personal preference. This tavern is beautiful inside! I love the character. I didn’t get to see the upper floor but my friend has been before and said it’s a cozy seating area. My only issues were they don’t serve Coca Cola, only Diet Coke or Coke Zero… and the seating is a bit tight so you’ll be rubbing elbows with others. Typical British customer service. Food: 10/10. Ambiance/architecture: 9/10. Service: 8/10. You want delicious fish and chips? Come here.

Full stars for the service, Full stars for the food delivery, within 10mins (ordered around 8.15pm) Full stars for the environment and ambience. 1 star for the fish and chips. Taste thawed and not fresh, chips under cooked, tartar not bad, pea paste is ok. 3 stars for Beef pie as it is normal, oven baked pie, tastes a bit of wine (not very sure if any). Overall not bad. But it did not have the wow effect. Over total damage $37 for 2. I heard they serve good beer. Maybe I will try it next time if we visit London again, The toilet is located in the basement, kinda slippery and dirty. But maybe at the end of the day hence they didn't have time to clean it up. Outside having a drinking and smoking area, you can enjoy the Big Ben scenery while chilling. Prime location with beer and good scenery.

I’ve had a lot of cod and chips and this was the best! Large portion, breading was light and crisp like tempura. Wonderful service, friendly people. Also enjoyed a Big Tom tomato juice.

Delicious fish and chips and great selection of beer. We ordered Badger Bitter, Tangle Foot, and Fursty Ferret. Tangle Foot was perfect for me since I am not into Bitter or Fursty which was amber ale. The chips (fries) were crispy yet soft in the middle. And the fish was a generous portion fried to perfection. One of the best fish and chips ever. Not greasy, just delicious, light, flaky fish and crispy batter on the outside. A must try when in London! Small, quaint pub! It seemed as if everyone ordered the fish and chips! The aroma at the door will invite you to come on in!
