We were excited to find out about this pub, as we have dogs and my daughter eats gluten-free. We got there and took directions for a nice shady dog walk before lunch, as it was a hot day. We stay outside, which is so pretty and very shady. To our surprise the dogs got a free ah day lunch! It was chicken, rice, veg and gravy, which they loved. We enjoyed the food a lot, and the bar drinks, also gluten free. Making gluten free pizza is an art I’ve not mastered but my daughter had a lovely one. A light crisp crust and plenty of toppings. It was beautifully quiet. A large number of pubs cater for young families, which is great, but I dare admit that it was nice to have a lunch out without small children charging about. Highly recommended. We may try the group dog walk with lunch sometime!

Very disappointing experience to order a stone baked pizza and receiving the one on the picture. Not a rocket science to figure that it's a ready shop bought base which was really dry, with some ingredients on top, but even the cheese was not melted under the top layer. Would never order a pizza there again Tobe honest I prefer frozen one compared to this. The atmosphere and the stuff was nice though I guess some pubs are just more for drinks than food.

Love this rustic old pub. Just keep coming back for more. Nice selection of beers, good food and a friendly welcome. Plenty of seating inside and out. Always seems popular.

What lovely traditional pub grub. Great choice for coeliacs. In particular the deep fried brie was delicious. Very dog friendly but don't bring kids. Get a babysitter 😁

Recently changed hands and the place is much better. The menu is fab if you love pies and Yorkshire puddings, if not then there are a few other choices and some specials too. The pies are delicious. The yorkies are delicious too - all stuffed with yummy, hearty and comfy fillings. Two choices of pies - some from a local farm - some made on-site. We had the ones from the local farm and they were delicious. The interior is a little random and quirky - perhaps they will change this over time.

I've been wanting to go here for ages, since I read about the Gluten Free menu. What a lovely pub, staff were very friendly and food was amazing. Dogs very welcome and get their own lunch. Wish this pub was a bit nearer home but will definitely be going back to try something else on the menu. Even had Gluten Free beer on draft.

Haven't visited this pub for years. We decided to come early afternoon because we know it can get busy and then you are unable to park. Beer good, says my husband and I enjoyed the rose wine. Hoping to go back soon.

The Compass is being run by new proprietors. They've added their touch to it and it still has that cosy, dog friendly lovely old pub feel. I met the landlady and she's very very nice and the staff were very friendly. Usual pub grub was spot on and reasonably priced. There's quite a large, paved outside area, part of which is covered. Bordered by plants and shrubs and well tended. Really recommend a visit

Sunday lunch with our friends turned out to be excellent! Really tasty, well cooked, copious Sunday roast with all the trimmings. Good atmosphere with friendly staff who welcomed our dog as well. We highly recommend visiting this pub and we will certainly visit there again!

Great little country pub. Very good food with lots of veggie options too. Nice to sit out in the courtyard on the warm days. Staff are lovely and so hospitable. We had a veggie pie and they made vegetarian gravy specially for us. Such a fabulous experience for the Queen Jubilee long weekend. Will be back.

After reading all the anti-children reviews I was unsure if to visit with my 4 year old twins but as it was in walking distance of where we were staying and I noticed that it had changed management recently I thought I'd give it a try. Very pleased that I did, the pub was more than friendly and actually seemed to go out of their way to make us all feel welcome, even giving the boys a lolly as a treat for eating all their dinner. A friendly pub with great food and good beer, totally recommended.

What a gem, from the warm welcome to the great choice of local ciders. The menu was great, best priced food for ages. Giant yorkies filled with pulled pork for 11.95, that'll do. Fresh Nutella churros for pudding too!

Friendly little pub. Food menu looks good although we didn't eat on this occasion. On list for next time we visit the New Forest. Landlady was very nice and chatty.

A traditional country pub, way off the beaten track, in a quiet village. It has the beams, the horse brasses, the wood fire, all of the ambiance that you'd expect. It's dog friendly, and they organise walks for dog owners and their 4 legged friends. But the main reason to visit will be the food. Simply excellent, with an interesting menu, great food, superbly presented by friendly staff. They have a number of specials, and various offers on different days, so the price can also be right! Certainly, they offer some of the best cuisine I've had in a while, and it would not be out of place in a top notch restaurant. Just a note; they also offer food suitable for those with gluten intolerance. My brother suffers with this, and I know from his comments how hard it can be to find somewhere that can cater for him. Make the effort to find this pub, and book yourself a table. You will not regret it.

We found this pub on Google after searching for dog friendly pubs whilst we stayed in the area. They are indeed friendly towards fur babies, with water and even a few treats available for them. Service was provided with a very friendly smile and accommodating manner. And then the food was delivered which were a couple of the best pies we have ever had, accompanied by perfectly cooked chips. The pub has a very local feel and I would highly recommend this place if you are in the area.
