Absolutely abysmal emergency room. This is insane considering this is one of the premier hospitals in the world. First, security there is the worst I have seen in a medical facility in my whole life. When they arenā€™t on power trips and berating patients, there are loudly discussing with their coworkers what vile contempt they have for their employer and discussing what isnā€™t their jobs. The behavior of the medical ER staff by and large was callous and indifferent. I reported to the ER with chest pains and proceeded to sit in the ER for 48 hours. Yes, you read that right ā€“ 48 hours! Why you ask? Because I was absolutely convinced that I was going to die. I was terrified that I would have a medical emergency if I left and so I stayed and endured. For the first 24 hours I was there, I saw a triage nurse and a PA who could not be more disinterested in what I was saying. I wasnā€™t even offered a bottle of water. Around 8PM, the ER becomes a homeless shelter and all the street people know how to game the system to fake symptoms and get a free place to stay and meal for the night. Meanwhile ā€“ I am still sitting there with chest pains. Being there for 40 hours+, I started to see that if I wasnā€™t seen within ā€œnormalā€ business hours, I was going to sit overnight. I started to have a massive panic attack which compounded my chest pains. I thought I was going to die. Then ā€“ a lone angel helped me. There was a young ER Tech there who moved heaven and earth to get me seen. She took me back to the screening area again where another PA ā€“ this one even more callous than the last ā€“ proceeded to tell me my condition wasnā€™t serious and tried to bully me. I pressed the issue and with the ER Techā€™s help finally broke through and got seen by a doctor. Once you get past the prison of the ER and get care from the doctors and nurses, you feel that JHH is world class. But until then, the ER staff couldnā€™t care less about you. I never felt so helpless. You are in prison. I filed a complaint with the Patient Relations Department over a month ago. They tell me the case is still being ā€œinvestigated.ā€ I wonā€™t hold my breath for a resolution.

I went last night after experiencing severe abdominal pain- my PCP told me to go to Hopkins ER after an exam. I waited for 5 hours after triage. I was never seen by a provider. The woman next to me had been waiting for 13 hours, and the man on the other side of me had been waiting for 9 hours. I left after 5 hours without being seen. For anyone saying that this is standard, I have been to Sinai Hospital's ED multiple times and have never experienced anything like this. Even when I was there for a long time, I was receiving attentive care from their emergency department throughout my stay. This was NOT my experience at Hopkins. DO NOT GO. This is not the norm, standard, or in any way acceptable care for anyone.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. We waited 5 hours to be seen, and when nothing had happened, we asked for a status update. They said maximum wait time would be 9 hours. At 8.5 hours, we complained again and they said their AVERAGE wait time was 24 hours! 24 hours in the ED chairs to be seen by a doc! Donā€™t go there if you have a pulse because they want your pulse to almost be gone before they will pay any attention to you. We ended up leaving AMA and they never uploaded the tests they had done onto my chart.

Wife took me to the ED department here at Hopkins on Monday morning I was having back pain and my legs and arms were numb and I was vomiting. While I was checking in I was hurting and explaining what was happening and I started getting sick. The young lady called someone there were a few people in the waiting room a lady moaning and crying about her pain someone else telling her to be quite. They need to have 2 different units one for those that donā€™t feel good and those that have a bad issue. You can tell the ones that need care they arenā€™t up asking around talking with other leaving the room to go smoke. An Ergant care unit is where those people need to goto. It was funny when people where checking in they were asked there pain score everyone had a 10. So she got off the phone and started to wheel me to a different area in the back left me in the hall and said they are cleaning a room for you someone will come and get you. 5 min later someone took me to a room, I had already called my dr on the way to the ED telling him what was wrong he told me to have him pages when I got there. Well I didnā€™t need to he was at my room 2 min after I arrived. The longest wait was for a MRI 7 hr they kept having emergencies come in which is understandable. They admitted me at 9pm but didnā€™t take me to a room until the next afternoon around 4 crazy how long it takes there were empty rooms on my floor. Oh well they took care of me they beat they could I suppose still trying to figure out what is wrong. They did help get my pain under control. The food this time was NOT very good you got what ever they brought you no choices. Hopefully it will change soon.

Horrid emergency room. I was there for severe long haul covid and the issues had gotten so bad I started having seizures in the waiting room after hours of waiting (I have epilepsy as well), and the nurses couldnā€™t care less. They donā€™t care here and I highly recommend people not go here for an emergency. The nurses are horrid, very rude, and donā€™t even care if youā€™re having serious health problems while waiting. They just get annoyed by it. If seizures donā€™t matter in a waiting room, nothing will. You could drop dead and theyā€™d ask you to get back up in your chair.

I've been to this ER several times because my specialist are connected to Hopkins. The wait time is outrageous. They are clearly under staffed but different people give different reasons for the long wait. Not one person says staff shortage is the reason. No one took me seriously when I had trouble breathing. I was sent home twice only to come back because of my breathing. They refused to allow me to speak to a patient advocate. They refused to call my Dr's on call service. Afterwards they give you a phone number for feedback. An answering machine picks up. There is never a response after leaving several messages. BLACK WOMEN STILL GET INFERIOR TREATMENT

Hour 1 a man is seizing up so they looked him over, hour 8, same man ( whom is there for chest pain) says he canā€™t move and needs immediate attention. Nurse at the desk grabbed a wheelchair and told him to come and sit in it, he said he couldnā€™t move because of his pain. She said she would wait. We packed up and left. My child was getting worse in the emergency room waiting to be seen for eight hours. The lady next to us 15 hours. They need to fire entire staff and redo everything. If I wanted my child to pass Johns Hopkins ER is the place for it.

There is quite a bit of a wait time here if you arenā€™t in acute distress but all of the workers here are amazing. My mom was transported in by ambulance a little before 2am on a Saturday night. We finally got a room around 7am. Iā€™d been up for 24 hours at this point. Around 9am, nurse Jennifer walked in and saw me sleeping on the floor and immediately had her med students bring in a comfier chair that I could sleep in a little better. They brought my mom lunch around 12:30 and I was surprised to see theyā€™d brought me food too. I hadnā€™t eaten since 4pm the previous day. She made sure to put an order in for me so I could eat too. All the workers there were so friendly, patient, and polite, from the intake nurse, lab techs, doctors and nurses, info desk, security guards, and med students. They went above and beyond to make sure me and my mother were both comfortable. Truly a great team with caring workers.

All I can say is WOW!!!! Terrible TERRIBLE place. 1st off if ur really in bad condition don't go there because you'll be waiting forever!!! Then one of the girls was supposed to be getting blood WAS ON THE PHONE WHILE TRYING TO GET BLOOD!!! She kept messing up sticking me while having a full blown conversation!! Then once I started to say something she decided to stop trying. I end up leaving after 4 hours of just sitting. Young lady next to me complained for a blanket for 2 hours!! I just end up getting her one. I've never seen such bad service. Ima just stick to Union Memorial.

The US healthcare system is one of the worst in the world. How is it even legal for an ER to have patients wait for more than 24 hours without receiving any medical care? And the hospital has done nothing to solve this crisis. I came there at around 8am and stayed there for more than 24 hours until I decided to leave myself to find my own cure. The politicians are too busy fighting over who has the biggest d**k while the people in the country are facing all types of challenges with every aspect of the united state. This is unacceptable and there is no way something like this is even legal

Is it possible to give this place zero stars? This is the single worst ER I have ever been to - Iā€™m bringing my wife in since the morning they make us wait seven hours - they donā€™t see her or treat her. Their staff makes fun of patients they treat patients as if theyā€™re in a social experiment. Iā€™ve seen four people breakdown the nurse told me my wife keeps losing her spot in line because itā€™s not deemed emergency enough. He tells me theyā€™re cleaning the room and sheā€™s next in line and then we wait another five hours. Their service is on par with a third world African country run by a military dictator. If youā€™re sick and this is your only option just start praying they will not help you.

My colleague had a severe allergic reaction and was transported to the ER. The staff was amazing. They were attentive, professional, and knowledgeable. It was really impressive. Lots of competent professionals communicating and moving quickly.

Long wait times, but worth it. Was given excellent care for my abdominal and chest pain. I was listened to by all the drs on the team and everyone was so pleasant. I never felt like they took my pain lightly and ran every test that they could. I waited about 4.5 hrs before being admitted because there was a large influx of people in the ER (it was a Saturday). Great experience with this hospital & would trust them with my life.

Waiting time can be unimaginable long, prepared to have a whole day here, especially if your condition is not that life-threatening. Most staffs are nice, although not the warmest sweethearts you can expect. The waiting area can be smelly during certain time of the day. I asked a nurse why my labs need to be done repeatedly, she said probably the doctor wants to make sure my vitals look ok during the visit, which makes sense, but also suggests that the tests are not medically essential to diagnose my condition.

Entire staff here was phenomenal, while I waited around 2-3 hours to actually be put in a room, every interaction with staff was kind and understanding. Doctors were prompt to check in with patients and genuinely cared about solving issues. The facility was extremely clean and there was someone cleaning every time I looked up. Regarding getting blood drawn, there was blood splattered on top of the table to rest your arm. There was nothing to protect a patient from other blood. Phlebotomist drawing my blood was great, however, did not switch gloves after answering a phone call while she was almost mid draw.

BEWARE!!! if your heart is still beating, even if itā€™s your lastā€¦ go to another emergency room. This hospital is crazzzzy!!!! We got in at 11pm by morning the nurses announced that the waiting time to be seen is around 24 hours. We asked how many more people before us, she replied manyā€¦. Guys, read and believe, Unless want to die, donā€™t come here. We ended asking for discharge paid the $15 parking fee here.

šŸ‘ In general this was a fairly good experience. On the positive side, there was sufficient parking, check in was seamless and quick and there was enough room to keep distance from others, at least when we went in but this obviously is subject to change by demand. šŸ‘ I honestly want to give Union Memorial a good rating, I sincerely do. However, it's so challenging when some of the doctors are just not that good at their job.
