This self paced tour of the USS Torsk was great. We did this after we came out of the aquarium on a whim, bought tickets on the ship with no wait. The tickets are good for 1 year if unused and they get you access to 3 ships. No one else was in front of us or behind us so we had the vessel to ourselves! It was in incredibly good shape, well maintained with excellent signage. I’m small and I was with my son who is still under 5 feet so we were fine but if you are a large person or very tall you’re not going to be comfortable in here. And it’s a very tight space so if you are claustrophobic I would not recommend this for you. Engine room was fascinating as were the torpedo launchers and controllers. The layout gave us a very good idea of what it was like to live onboard a vessel like this. My son loved being able to touch things and explore firsthand history onboard a warsub like this. It’s not often enough kids get to do this. Would definitely go back again!

I was a little reticent to pay $20 to go through the submarine, but the pass also gets you into three other ships that are on display, and that makes it totally worth it! There is the light-ship, the USS Constellation (originally built in 1797!) and a coast guard cutter that used to be a gunboat for the navy and was at Pearl Harbor during Japan's attack. Really cool experiences all around and totally worth it. Even my wife, who doesn't usually care about these things enjoyed herself.

This is truly a fascinating visit. You get to go down through the submarine and read plaques about many of the different parts. It's amazing to see what it was like to be on a submarine. There are no recorded messages and no tour guide present when you're down there, but it's well worth the visit. Don't plan to bring a stroller through, because it won't fit through the bulkhead doors.

Very nice visit, well-maintained. Excellent surroundings. USS Torsk is one of less than 10 surviving WWII diesel submarines. It holds the claim to fame of having sunk the last vessel during WWII, on August 14, 1945

It's incredible to think people lived here for months during a deployment. All the sailors must be fit as the walkways are small and hard to move through. You have to always face the stairs going up or down for safety and definitely watch your head.

Didn’t have the opportunity to go inside. Everything was closed due to the rain, but it was pretty amazing

Wow! Sub life is tight! Love how you get so much in little. Great little walk through. Love that I could get into 4 ships with one ticket! RECOMMEND!!!

It was fun exploring the submarine freely (it was a self-guided tour). One ticket covers visiting 4 vessels at the harbor. It was an honor to see the living conditions for the navy in that era. For those taller than average, the submarine has some pretty small doorways as you travel from room to room, so be warned!

It looks very cool. You can pay to visit its interior but you’d have to get a pass that lets you visit both the submarine and the ships nearby. Since I don’t have too much time nor interest to visit the ships, I don’t think the getting the pass is worth the price for me.

We went with our five year old and our two year old. It was $20/adult, but children under 6 are free. The price also includes entrance to the other ships. It is very cool to be on a real submarine. It is a neat experience for both adults and kids. Everything is very hands on and well labeled. Definitely recommend.

Always nice to see our old boats being maintained for public display. The information inside and the layout of exhibits were pleasing and accurate. One of my favorite WW2 submarines.

Very neat, you rarely get a chance to look inside previously serving warships and it was very interesting to see how these men lived, especially considering you can walk almost the entire length of the vessel and be reminded that several dozen men had to coexist in this space for months.

You get tickets from Newark the USS constellation and get access to four vessels. This submarine is from WWII and was used until 1968! It's so old and it's amazing technology for the time. Not accessible. Lots of small walkways and crazy steps and ladders. The vessel is declining with age. Visit and check it before it's gone. It's self guided.

What a great piece of history that is made available to us to explore! I really enjoyed getting to board and look at all the different areas that are publicly available!

Unfortunately it was closed because of the heat but my dad was still able to tell me stories about his time on the sub. Worth the trip for anyone who served on it.

Very cool submarine with very reasonable admission prices. Definitely check this place out if you're a navy buff and want to learn more about submarines. Quite a rare opportunity as not many submarines are publicly accessible. Stairways are extremely narrow and steep. Headroom is extremely limited so you'll have to be extremely careful. Not many people when I visited so it was great to enjoy the sub without people crowding in. A lovely hidden gem.
