I wish I could give this place zero stars. The atmosphere is quiet which is nice and good for studying. It’s very grunge looking and kind of dirty, though. Their chai latte absolutely abhorrent. It was the nastiest chai i’ve ever had. I don’t think it was chai, more of a brown water. It’s as if the barista made no effort to make it. Even when it came time to receive some service, he and the other employee were just chatting like a customer wasn’t present. Very terrible experience customer service wise and taste wise. 0/10. I won’t ever return and I don’t recommend anyone else to either.

Picture it - Baltimore, 2023. 3 in the morning, as an exhausted father and his teenage daughter seek safe passage through the deserted (though surprisingly well lit) streets of downtown Baltimore. Where can these weary travelers from Arizona find refuge and refreshment at this hour? Why, at The Bun Shop, of course! Home to great herbal teas, a selection of coffee, and delicious pastries ranging from sweet staples like apple turnovers and cinnamon rolls to savory pizza buns, beef patties, and chickpea curry pies. Really cool atmosphere, helpful staff, plentiful charging outlets, delicious and reasonably priced food. We are not in Baltimore often, but will definitely stop by again.

The ambiance is very nice. It's spacious and has a relaxing atmosphere. Other than that I can't say much more on the positives. The buns and empanadas were pretty meh. Nothing to really write home about and the snickerdoodle cookies are horrible. Way too much flour and no distinctive taste. Similar to a bland scone. The viet coffee is pretty ok too. Overall I wouldn't recommend unless it's to grab a coffee and get some work done.

Very cool hangout spot. Lots of seating and a nice relaxed vibe. Nice for working or reading and a good change of space. Some interesting food options too. Tried the rotiboy and pizza pastries. They were good. The best part is that the cafe is open late in case you need some late food or study for a test.

The first thing that might attract you to this shop is the fancy gold leaf window sign. Once you open the door, what will keep you there are the amazing smells and the chill atmosphere. I had an iced vietnamese coffee, a rotiboy and a breakfast bun. My coffee was delicious and perfect for the warm weather. The rotiboy was soft and flaky and had a delicate sweetness to it that I really enjoyed paired with my coffee. The breakfast bun was delicious as well. First off everything smelled amazing! It was filled with eggs, a little bit of peppers and onions and steak. Service was great as well. It was my first time here and the fellow behind the counter gave me the bun suggestions. Will make it a point to visit here whenever I am in the area.

Cafe with very unique atmosphere and late night hours. Very cozy, free wifi, good drinks, lots of seating and outlets with street parking right outside. Perfect for night owl students

The honey macchiato here is delicious! It’s sweet, but not too sweet. The atmosphere here is also very relaxed and the staff is friendly. I also ordered the breakfast bun and while it’s didn’t feel like my cup of tea I could see why others like it so much. I think next time around I’ll try some of the other buns that they have instead.

Great turnover (I'm definitely coming back to try a rotiboy!) and latte with fantastic atmosphere. Moody, eclectic, artsy, with stuff that's a bit worn, repurposed, and well-loved... So nice. Plus ample seating and free WiFi!

Fun little place open late at night, with people still working on their laptops at 10pm. There were decent vegetarian and vegan options, and though I didn't think the food was particularly special, my husband lived the mac and cheese filled bun!

We had the hot cinnamon spice tea which was a fantastic blend of cinnamon, clove and orange peel. We also tried almost all the pastries and every single one of them were perfectly flaky or had just the perfect bite. No jarring flavors, all had a unique taste and texture to it. Totally a must try if you're in the area. Ambience is chill with lofi beats playing in the background with dim lighting, perfect for relaxed conversation and studying.

The coffee and tea selection was pretty extensive, and unique pastries and dishes were available. The atmosphere was grunge which I would personally love if it wasn’t so dirty. At 11 am every single table was already sticky or covered in crumbs. The couch cushions were ripped, and random objects were strewn haphazardly around the shop as if there wasn’t enough room to store them. The atmosphere made it seem like nobody cares to clean this place, which definitely detracted from my experience.

I wanted to like this place, but I was distracted by how dirty everything was...especially the floors. Layers of dust, dirt, and crumbs look like they've never been cleaned. This has to be an ongoing issue of cleanliness. The coffee was okay and the water comes from their sink tap. The bathroom was something out of Trainspotting with all the grafitti and toilet paper on a loose roll. We were confused by the hype of this place, to say the least, and the cherry on top was being followed to our car by a strange man lingering by the front door.

A pretty nice shop, tucked away with late hours. A coffee and bun was around $7. The bun was pretty good, not very sweet, just in the middle ground. There’s a good amount of space available in the shop and the wifi is really good, so it makes it a nice place to sit and get work done. The only thing I can suggest is that the music is a little loud, making phone calls a bit difficult.

Literally the perfect bakery/cafe. They've got unique and original drinks and pastries, all of which are homemade in house. There drink menu is not only expansive but also absolutely delicious, featuring items such as the Hong Kong (latte with earl grey tea) and of course their signature Vietnamese (drip coffee or cold brew, depending on if you order it hot or iced, with a shot of espresso and sweetened condensed milk). They also offer teas, for those who don't drink coffee, but I'm so obsessed with their iced mocha that I haven't had the opportunity to try any of them. Plus, an absolutely incredible indoor atmosphere with plenty of seating. I can't reccommend them enough. The only problem is that the bathroom... is in rough shape. It smells, the floor is constantly wet, and the sink hardware is in various states of disrepair every time I use it. Just avoid that and everything is great :)

This place is such a gem! You walk in and you get the sense that you are in an eclectic living room. The decor is so visually interesting and you can find little details everywhere you look. There are some board games, chess and much more. The coffee & team menu is extensive. The owner is such a genuine and kind spirit. He’s extremely helpful and such a pleasure to interact with. I’ve tasted 2 of the savory pastries (chicken curry and a tomato one) - both were excellent. I also had a lavender lemonade which was so full of flavor and underlying hints of rose. The pastries are freshly made on-site. In fact, if you go late enough, you might see the large platters being made. I definitely plan to go back and hang out to do some work. There are varied seating types - you’re sure to find one that’s comfortable for you. Come get a coffee and stay for the ambiance.

This is a unique coffee/tea/bun shop located on Read St. I went around 8p and it was packed but I was able to find a solo table/chair/outlet to do some work on my laptop. This cafe offers free WiFi but you must buy something to be able to use their facility. The barista was super friendly and made a great menu suggestion. I ended up getting the honey matcha latte (hot) and it was very delicious. The space is not your typical bright and updated shop. It’s eclectic with non-traditional work stations like couches, benches, random table/chair combos etc. As many reviews suggested, it’s dark inside which made it a little difficult for me to see as someone who wears glasses. Luckily, I was able to grab a seat under a lamp which helped a great deal. I appreciate this space though because it was very diverse (patrons ranged from 20s-40s of different races/ethnicities) and it stays open late!! I stayed until about 10p on a Monday but they don’t close until 3am daily (7a-3a 7 days per week). Soooo awesome. This is not a quiet study hall atmosphere so it may not be a good place for tasks that require quiet backgrounds like meetings or test-taking. Otherwise, I highly recommend this spot for late night study/work/lounge sessions and tasty lattes. I would give this a 5 if there were more seats that provided back support as well as reading lights to help the people that are 30+ like me lol.

Come for the coffees/teas, stay for the vibes. I like to describe this place as the 90s grunge reimagining of a cafe. It has unique character and is a great place to study and talk to nobody or to meet cool people and chat for hours - choose your own adventure.

I’ll have to give this another chance one day. I unfortunately was not a fan. Inside is pretty dark and moody, if that’s the vibe you’re going for. It didn’t work for me so I ended up not staying there to work remotely. I tried both the coffee and a curry pastry. The latter was okay, but I ended up throwing out the former. I could tell plenty folks visit here regularly but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

Immaculte vibe and great place to work and chat (tho the benches are fairly uncomfortable after). Coffee and pastries are really really good. I think their Vietnamese coffee is best in Mt. Vernon area. Rotiboys are amazing

Love this place. To me it defines urban bun shop. Really cool rustic look, great place to work, brainstorm outside of home. You definitely may see a crack head or 2 passing by from time to time. Really cool gay bar down the street that creates a little more traffic in this area on the weekends, but it’s otherwise quite chill. Staff is young but very helpful.

Can’t give it more than 3 stars because there were ants on the counter where they left our food/drinks to be picked up. Unfortunate because otherwise Great coffee and pastries (both savory and sweet). We got the tikka roti and the roti boy. Both were excellent. Cool atmosphere with interesting furniture and decorations.

I love the Bun Shop and it's become a favorite of mine! Great drink options, buns, and atmosphere. I like going in the morning when there aren't as many people and parking is easy, but you can usually find a spot to sit in the evening, too, although there are more students there then. The lighting is also a bit darker, which can put a little strain on the eyes if you're on a computer, but it's never stopped me from going!

So, I am a frequent customer at this shop. I enjoy a pastry and coffee each time I go. Today I went back for an extra pastry and the Barista commented "you big". He and everyone there is typically generally friendly but I was disappointed in this remark. Even though it was meant to be funny, I don't appreciate that being at my expense. Either way, the staff is generally expediant. Have yet to decide if I will return, that remark rubbed me the WRONG way.

I enjoy the Bun Shop and have had good experiences here in the past, but in recent visits I've noticed that their WiFi blocks any .edu websites (I tried multiple). I was told that their WiFi "sometimes messes up with school and work websites" and that there was no fix (there is no warning of this being the case before you purchase coffee or food, of course). I've experienced it often enough that it is likely happening more than "sometimes," so if you're a student or need to access school portals/resources I would stay away.

Little diluted coffee. Too dim light in the cafe. Not many options of buns. However, buns were super delicious !!!
