Very Nice temple , Situated beside the lake .Must visit if you visit badami. Some history about temple as below 👇 The Bhutanatha group of temples are 7th to 12th century Hindu temples to the east of Agastya lake in Badami, Karnataka state, India. It consists of two subgroups – one called the East Bhutanatha group or Bhutanatha main group from 7th to 8th-century mostly in the Dravida architecture style; the other called the North Bhutanatha group or Mallikarjuna group from 11th to 12th-century mostly in the Nagara architecture. The former illustrates the Badami Chalukya architects, the latter along with the nearby Yellamma temple the Kalyani Chalukya architects.

Located approximately 2km from badami town, we can reach this place by a walk or private transportation or auto. And also can explore the badami fort. On the weekend it will be crowded, the best time is during the sunset time. There is no entry ticket to this place.

Located on the bank of Agastya lake, about 2 km from the Badami caves. It's a serene location with very few visitors. A pathway has been built adjoining the dhobi ghat for access to the temple. It's visible from the Badami caves too.

The Bhutanatha group of temples is a cluster of sandstone shrines dedicated to the deity Bhutanatha, in Badami town of Karnataka state, India. There are two major temples here. Temple No.1, on the east side of the lake, called the Bhutanatha temple has a superstructure that resembles early South Indian style or North Indian style with its open mantapa extending into the lake, while the smaller Temple No.2 on the north-east side of the lake, sometimes called the Mallikarjuna group of temples, has a stepped superstructure, commonly found in Kalyani Chalukya constructions. The inner shrine and mantapa of Temple No.1 were constructed in the late 7th century, during the reign of the Badami Chalukyas. While the outer mantapa, facing the Badami tank, was completed during the rule of the Kalyani Chalukyas of the 11th century. Hence the Bhutanatha temple contain architectural forms from different periods. Studies show that these Kalyani Chalukya architects could have belonged to the same early phase workshop, that later built the nearby Yellamma temple and the Mallikarjuna group of temples. Continuation of the Badami cave complex. Beautiful temples situated on the far corner of the lake and looking out to the caves. Go at sunset and wander around the complex. Need at least 2 hrs. Monkey menace is not present at this place.

Very nice and maintained ancient temple place to visit this. You can park your own car at the ticket counter then walk till here else, it is good to have autorickshaw to visit nearby places at ₹300.

What makes this place truly beautiful is the placement , you can also get another great view of this temple from the caves on top , every view is worth experiencing. This is the best one out of all for me in person . Only backdrop is the countless number of monkeys , they don't harm you but if you got food , handbags , wallets , or anything interesting , be prepared for tug of war , even the luggage that's tied to your two wheeler isnt safe . So , keep that in mind. Rest is just Awesome .

Authentic inside. I liked the god statue. Some local guy said a couple of incomprehensible words, then asked for 10 rupees.))) He didn’t give it, of course And the temple is cool.

Very nice place, visit during sunset to enjoy the nature. Parking is available but road is very narrow and lot of hump on them which may scratch your cars, SUVs. Better to walk or trek or by auto to reach this place.

Actually there is nothing there to see as a temple but if you want to relive history amidst the volcanic hills and also see a golden sunset this is the place to be. Agastya's Lake enhances the beauty of the temples against the backdrop of the hills. You have everything, water, air, fire, (during sunset), stones and monkeys. The Badami caves on the other side of the lake visible during sunrise gives it more sacredness. There is some link between the cave and the temple.

Bhootnath Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was constructed in 1527 CE during the rule of Raja Ajber Sen, a ruler of Mandi. He dreamt of a cow whose udders were showering milk at a particular spot in the woods. The next day, he went to the site and discovered a Shivalinga after hours of digging. Its beautiful temple beside lake

Bhootanath temple is the landmark of Badami town. It is on one end of Agasthya lake and looks like floating on the water. The temple looks beautiful. The temple along with the lake is scenic. It is a very popular tourist destination in Badami attracting domestic and foreign tourists everyday. We have to take an auto rickshaw from Badami and the roads are not proper. Be decently dressed in temple premises. Approximately it will take one hour to explore the temple sorroundings. There are two other temples in the complex. Entry is free. There is a museum near by. A wonderful place to see.

During our family tour to ‘Magical Hampi’ in Karnataka, while returning to home, on route we gave a visit to the ‘Bhootnath Temple’. It is located in Badami town and is a group of temples. It is a cluster of sandstone shrines dedicated to the deity Bhutanatha or Lord Shiva. This location is famous for its amazing views and rock climbing activities.

Located in Badami , adjacent to famous Badami rock cut temple. Surrounded by big man made tank known as Agastya tank, beautiful temples, small but carved beautifully and the big clif at background makes it quite photogenic. Visit free of cost and spent some quite time at temple, calm lake and cave temple at opposite side in view.

At a distance of 1.5 km from Badami Bus Station, Boothanatha Temple is a magnificent structure situated on the banks of Agasthya Lake past Badami Museum in Badami. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Boothanatha Temple is the most striking structure of Badami and prime promotional element of Badami Tourism. The temple is surrounded by water on three sides. The temple was constructed in the early 8th century by Chalukyas. Constructed in Dravidian style, the temple is emerged into the Agastya Lake and becomes inaccessible during peak monsoons when the water level in the lake reaches the full capacity. The temple has a pillared mukha mandapa, sabha mandapa, and inner sanctum with a Shiva image. The main temple is accompanied by several small shrines on the northern and eastern ends. The form of Bhoothnath is said to be the combination of the God of Soul, Spirit, and the Ghost. The temple all dark inside has an image of Shiva in an angry form. The Bhoothnath monuments constitute the early modes and phases of South Indian temple architecture. When you walk further south from Boothanatha Temple, there are few more striking monuments carved into the hillock. The first one is a bas-relief of Lord Narasimha, Varaha, Durga, Ganesha, Trimurthies along with several gods carved out from the hill. Further south from here towards the lake has a small stone structure with a wonderfully carved image of Lord Vishnu in sleeping posture. The main carving is executed on a huge rock. Timings: 6 AM - 7 PM

This temple, among very few, attracted me a lot. A humble pose in front of lake, with large mountain in the back, this temple make a worthy visit in Badami. The temple must be planned well and designed for the kingdom.

Situated on the banks of Agastya lake. The temples are almost ruined but has beautiful carvings. Calm serene place to just sit peacefully and watch sun setting down. I would highly suggest to sit and enjoy the beauty where the sun will go off for the day with the birds chirping in the background.

It's beauty! It's huge temple complex, and temples are carved out of stones. You'll simply love the natural colour shades. Apart from series of temples another attraction is a nearby museum. Recommended time is morning and evening, you'll avoid soaring Sun and also you'll love cool breeze. This place is visible from Badami Cave Temple.

This the most beautiful temple for photography.Architecture is very grand with many incomplete cave temples in this complex.Majority of the sculpture in the temples of this complex is dead though we may feel good part here and there. landscape view of complete red colour mountains and silent lake below it along with colours of sunset is best from here.

It's a must watch temple in Badami When you start walking upstairs for Badami caves, you will notice a temple located to end of the lakeside.. that's the Bhootnath Temple Ancient creation wonderful to see and experience. If you observe each stone and sculpture they are just so beautiful. You have to take 10 minutes walk from caves towards end of the lake to reach the temple It's an awesome spot for photography Creators can do wonder here. Sunrise or sunset would be great time for photoshoot, but thats possible only if you are staying in Badami. Its always better to visit such historical places and learn from ancient cultures. Must be on you visit list..!!

These temples are believed to be from the 8th century time, additions to the old temple were made by enlarging them by additions of porch with balcony(mandapa). Sitting here makes you feel calm and serene. The approach via car is a hassle as it is via a narrow road, if another vehicle comes from the other side you will be stuck. Once you take it, it is only a 2-minute walk to the temple. The other way is walking from Badami caves, which should be around 10-15 minutes. This is a short visit of about 10 minutes, until and unless you plan to enjoy the peacefulness of the mandapa.

Need to pass through the market to visit this temple. It is not there in badami caves. You can see the temple from badami caves. The reach to the temple is very narrow. And a big car probably cannot pass through at these roads easily. There is no god which is being worshipped there now. But its a very good place to sit and enjoy the scenic nature of the caves. Also on the way there is a small archeological museum if you want to visit.
