Its OK, relatively cheap and cheerful, good service and ok pub grub but hoo boy its in need of a deep clean and renovation. I went with a friend of mine wanting a cheap and easy lunch. Walking in, it gives a classic feel of a beefeater / harvester. Its quite dark in there, with decor that needs a update. It took over a minute to be greeted and sent to the table. As always with these places I'm always initially offered the crappiest table, but I asked if we could be seated in a comfy booth and our waitress kindly obliged. There was a few old timers in there at 1pm Monday afternoon, but it was probably 10% full. Service was good, prompt taking of our drink order and perfect timing of order taking and lunch being served. I had a surf and turf for over £20 and it was pretty average, I would say overpriced, but it was certainly edible. Steak was cooked medium rare how I like it but they should of trimmed the fat off as it wasnt nice all grisly and tough. The 2 king prawns were excellent, but the calamari was a bit over fried and greasy. The triple cooked chips were standard frozen McCains Home Fries style - why proper chips cut from fresh potatoes are never sold at these places I dont really understand. Presentation of the food was nice with a bit of salad garnish and garlic mayo. However, the cleanliness of the place was not good. It felt dirty and unkept with wallpaper stained and peeling off the ceiling. The front doors glass was smeary and fingerprinted all over. Carpets seemed filthy and dirt and grime was everywhere, even on the ramekins that they serve ketchup and mayo in, yuck! It is in need over a deep clean and better cleaning regime to encourage people like me to return. I guess if I was a travelling salesman and had a stopover in the Premier Inn next door I'd take a english breakfast in there, but as for choosing to go there, it really needs to be renovated and relaunched. The Harvester down the road is better place to eat for the same price and I know its bit more pricey but Miller and Carters is in another league compared to this Beefeater.

Not a good experience. My wife is diary intolerant so was confined to choosing the £11.99 house salad with Chicken. Tenderstem broccoli, sliced advocado, tomato, red onion and rocket. Tossed with french dressing and served on a bed of mixed grains. Originaly the salad had very little of the above including no advocado. This was quickly resolved and returned as in the photo. Clearly the chef thought this was acceptable but the manager didn't. Suitably embarressed he removed the cost. But the damage was done. Wouldn't return or recommend.

Customer service is brilliant here. We've been back here a few times although we don't live in Basingstoke. The front of house, tall, bearded man (Lee?) is amazing. So, so friendly and welcoming and great with the kids. John is a great server too, (friendly, funny, chatty) although he should maybe leave talk of private piercings for outside of work and esp not in front of my children!🤨 My cannelloni was under-cooked and chewy, but the sauce was amazing. My child's bolognaise was dry- absolutely no sauce. I ordered an apple and blackberry crumble. No sign of blackberries but the apples were purple so they were somewhere, just not in my bowl! The crumble was scarce to say the least; there was maybe three tablespoons of the stuff on top of shed loads of fruit. For me, the crumble is the best bit so this was disappointing. Also, this was obviously a heated up bowl of fruit, with some warm crumble spooned on top. It had not seen the oven, which was also disappointing. Overall, I love the feel of the restaurant and the service is great, but the food could be so much better, considering the expensive prices and the fact that you don't get many main meals under £12.99.

We needed a place for dinner before going to iFLY across the road. The previous reviews were very mixed, either having had a positive experience or the complete opposite, so were unsure what to expect. Beafeaters can vary and are normally standard food. We were given a table but was told we would need to finish by an hour and a half as it was booked. It was reasonably quiet when we arrived, but by the end of the meal it was almost full, so was good to have been given it. We were served by a really friendly guy who was so helpful. The others who also served us were friendly and helpful. The food was really nice, we all enjoyed what we chose. My daughter's was from the children's menu, I ordered the vegan burger and my husband had the surf and turf, which he really enjoyed and the steak was cooked perfectly as he ordered. The coke and chips are available to top up free, which was a nice surprise, especially that my first drink was half filled with ice so wasn't much coke. We had sides and were good too. Overall ours was great, food and the friendliness of the staff. One thing that could have been different was the table and seat had food on, so we just brushed it off.

Great food. Lovely cooked breakfast, poached eggs are cooked to order . Great steak for an evening meal. One downside was no air conditioning and our bed was a small double.

Arrived on a busy Sunday evening (Bank Holiday Weekend) We received an extremely friendly welcome and were seated very quickly. The decor and atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and relaxed with a friendly feel. The food arrived very quickly after ordering and were no complaints at all, my steak was cooked to near perfection for my liking. Calum, our server was extremely friendly and professional. Unfortunately we are not local to the area but for anyone looking for a restaurant with good value for money and a friendly welcome, I would certainly recommend the Spruce Goose.

Waitress was nice, however food wasn't great mine was cold and i asked for no bacon in the burger but it arrived with bacon. The burger tasted of smoked bacon which I don't like. I don't like to send things back which will probably go to waste, so I took it out. Other people that came in after we ordered food theirs arrived before ours so I'm guessing that's why it was cold probably sitting on side. Service was slow but we were keen to get in and out if we didn't have other places to go it would of been fine. Chef(s) need to pay more attention to the order requirements, could be someone with an allergy.

Firstly, I have to note the amazing work ethic we witnessed by Keiran when we were waiting for our meals. He was working his socks off-keeping all the meals coming out one after the other! Our waitress, Tequilla, was so polite, very accommodating and super friendly-she did all she could to assist with the food. The manager, Lee, was also amazing and assisted with helping to get our food earlier as my grandmother needed to eat earlier for medical reasons-what a super star. These three are such a credit to the team and to the Beefeater brand. It was such a busy night, but watching all the staff running around trying to keep up with the drinks and meal orders made us realise they were doing all they could to keep up with the amount of people in. The reason for the star removal was due to some issues with the food. Unfortunately, the salad had no sweetcorn or avocado, when it should have been included. The turkey dinners didn't have any cranberry sauce either. When we tried to order desert, despite the menu saying "new key lime pie", the staff said that they no longer do it. The other desert we tried to order was the banoffee waffle sundae and they had no waffles. I would like to add that the four stars instead of five is no reflection on the staff and just a disappointment with some of the food issues. The food we did eat was absolutely delicious. It was beautifully cooked and very tasty. The Yorkshire puddings were lush too.

Friendly enough staff, but boy, this establishment has significantly plummeted over the last 5 years. The menu was falling apart which wouldn't of been noted if not for the seriously lack of care when preparing our meal. Skin was left on the Mushrooms, in my opinion, that's lazy. The chips were amazing! The steak was OK and the burger was barely even seared. When I approached a member of staff he quite adamantly demanded how he would order it even rarer... more flavour packed in he said. However, that did not leave me feeling as though I had been heard. I took a bite and noticed the extreme pinkness of the burger, felt instantly sick as I had already swallowed it and could not touch it again. The mini corn cobs, turned out to be an overcooked half cob cut into three that tasted as though it had been warming for hours. This used to be a lovely restaurant to visit, after this experience on the 5th Nov 22. We will not be back. What may aid this restaurant is someone who takes pride and loves this aspect of work, take a fresh stance and clean the slate. I wish you the very best of luck in the future.

Breakfast food is always quite standard here. Kids love coming here. Staff are friendly and helpful. Hot food gets refilled quickly. Service can be a bit slow at times but that's when the restaurant is full. But overall, good experience.

Had an amazing meal at this restaurant. Food was cooked perfectly and came out quickly despite it being very busy which we were impressed with. Our waiter could not have been more attentive. It was a shame we weren't able to tip using the card machine as none of us were carrying cash!

A picture paints 1,000 words... The food was so good, Chicken Goujons with hot sauce, 8oz sirloin steak with side salad. Service was a little on the slow side but it was pretty busy to be fair, Would definitely return.

Not too bad, would go again if I was in the area but wouldnt go out of my way to go here. Food was very average. I ordered the ribs and there was some kind of south west seasoning on them which was not good but the chips and cocktails were nice.

Really impressed with the quality of service on a busy day. In particular the response to one of our party who is gluten intolerant was excellent. The quality of the food was great too...veggie options were a bit limited outside of burgers BUT my cannelloni was excellent...and different from the usual dish at other restaurants.

Disappointed! Having had full breakfast at various beefeater restaurants, this was by far the worst. Continental food was so cold and squashed that it wasn't appealing to look at let alone eat. Cooked breakfast was luke warm and the bacon and mushrooms had clearly been there a while. I requested scrambled eggs, I don't eat fried, and was told theh would be made to order. I continued to eat as the food was getting colder and the scrambled eggs never arrived. I won't eat a breakfast there again! Such a shame as the restaurant is airy and in a great location.

Went for a meal after a lovely afternoon at the theatre and was seated straight away without booking when the restaurant was very busy. Everyone we came in to contact with from the general manager, to the bar staff and waitress were exceptionally friendly and pleasant. The food was great, and I was pleased to be allowed to thank Paul the kitchen manager, and his team at the servery. Really lovely team and we will defiantly return again very soon. Lovely atmosphere and food! Well done Team Spruce! 👏💞

We dined after having a lovely evening bowling. We took our service users which are disabled. We were greater by the manager and given a table which was accessible to wheelchairs and also went under the table. Had a lovely waitresses who's name was Kaytlynn. I hope I got that right. This lovely lady went above and beyond for us all. Would highly recommend and we will see you all soon. Thank you for looking after us all. Great friendly staff and manager was also amazing 👏 👌 forgot to say. Good disabled access and also toilets.

Waiter had a dirty sweatshirt! Not acceptable in a restaurant serving food. Half chicken not chargrilled and lukewarm. Salad just green leaves nothing else! Waitress didn’t even ask if meals were ok. Mentioned it at the end and got no comment and a bland look. £36 with drinks and ripped off. Can’t believe they do this with prices so high.

Have not visited The Spruce Goose for about 30 years as not dog friendly and previously had a dog. Took advantage of Beefeater 50% Black Friday voucher and found food and drink very good and staff friendly and efficient. Would recommend thr fish and chips! Decor ( seating) a little tired but otherwise a pleasant visit.

Been a while since we visited Spruce Goose and decided it would be a great treat to have breakfast here as previous experience was excellent. I must admit although the food itself was faultless the environment for breakfast is chaos. Huge ques of people waiting and pushing others aside just to grab a few eggs. The walking distance between cold and hot food, minimal space for people to walk around and huge ques made it feel chaotic and claustrophobic. I feel for the staff. I would come again for lunch/dinner for sure.... But breakfast, not for me.

Food was very expensive and under cooked cost £104 for 2 kids meals, 2 main meals and 3 sweets. Total rip off and the food was POOR!! Table service was OK roof near door was falling in and floor under tables were not cleaned After breakfast NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL...

Usually really good food but we got there late (our own fault) and there wasn't much left and what was there was being dried out by the heat lamps. Staff were really friendly and place was clean. Would have been a 4 star if food was better.

Awful time!!!! Went in with my family, then seated. Within 5 mins we were asked what drinks we would like and also ordered our food at the same time. 20mins later we still don't have our drinks and then noticed that the waiter had not put our drinks through, so when he realised he had them made. We ordered 2x draft cokes NO ICE AND NO LEMON, however when they were finally Brought over they both had ice and lemon in, so we asked for them to be changed. SO...... we were sitting where we could see the whole bar and my wife noticed that instead of making us 2 new fresh 1s, they decided to get their ice prongs out and pick the ice and lemon out of OUR drinks, put them back on the tray for the waiter to bring back to us. My wife told me this and obviously I went and had my say. The waiter watched as the barman did this. THIS WAS 1 OF THE WORST THINGS I HAVE SEEN IN A RESTAURANT ESPECIALLY DURING COVID. WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF ONE OF US HAD A CITRUS ALLERGY AND WE DIDN'T SEE THEM DO IT........ IT COULD OF BEEN LIFE THREATENING TO US OR WHOEVER...... THE MANGERS EXCUSE WAS APPALLING... "ITS ONLY HIS SECOND DAY" ....... WHAT!!!!!! THIS WAS AWFUL ON EVERY ACCOUNT!!!! IF THAT STUFF HAPPENS WITH MY DRINK, WHO KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS WITH YOUR FOOD IN THE KITCHEN...... DISGUSTED!!!!!!

Menu looks fabulous. Service tonight, I can only say exemplary! Wine choice of Steak Maker Malbec, very good. Food hot, presentation good, but for a Surf'n'Turf a bit too done. I think 3 out of 5 as a rating is fair.

We decided to try the Spruce Goose for breakfast, it was very busy but despite an initial impression of chaos it turned out to be surprisingly good. It was an all you can eat buffet with continental and cooked breakfast. The whole operation was well organised with all the hot food being constantly replenished so the queues were not too long if at all and the food was good. Would recommend but get there before 10am as it seemed to get very busy just after.

Ordered Fillet steaks medium well done and no blood. Food arrived with blood oozing from steak so asked for them to be recooked. Food came back still grossly undercooked and was worst fillet steak I have ever had. The waitress just couldn't wait to run away every time she served us so we had to keep calling them to ask for sauces etc. Avoid at all costs. The manager scrapped our entire bill. That was only good point

What a lovely day, lovely food and drink. Table 14 which was in a prime position. What made the day even better we had the best waiter. John he was amazing, his personality was great. Speaking to the Kids directly about things that they would be interested in.

Chicken burger was dry, bun was black, was missing onions and bbq sauce, I asked for no tomato but got a tomato. Camembert wasn't cooked, sent it back and it still wasn't cooked. Steak was missing its sauce, chips were cheap and nasty. Which is a shame, used to go to Beefeater regularly

Brilliant all you can eat breakfast - £9.50 per adult and free for under 16s. Hot delicious English buffet including black pudding - yum! Great selection of other breakfast including cereal, toast, muffins, croissant etc. Unlimited juice and coffee - no need to ask waiting staff, help yourself. Friendly greeting and nice and clean. Would definitely visit again!

Went out for a meal with friends, an observation is that families dine a bit earlier and tend to leave by 8-8.30pm and the atmosphere changed to being much more relaxing. Our waitress was great with an amazing knowledge of the menu and orders without the use of a notepad. I'd say the food was good and also good value. I hadn't been to this restaurant for a number of years due to a bad experience but I am now happy to go back again to try it out with family. I am not blown away and wouldn't say it's of much greater quality than a Wetherspoons, but if you're looking for a good value meal then this may satisfy with many options available to choose from on an extensive menu. The draft beer/ale options aren't much to get excited about with the usual options available but there are more to choose from by the bottle.
