Sparrenberg Castle, also known as the Sparrenburg or in German Burg und Festung Sparrenberg or Sparrenburg, is a restored fortress in the Bielefeld-Mitte district of Bielefeld, Germany. It is situated on the Sparrenberg hill 180 metres(590 ft) altitude in the Teutoburg Forest and towers 60 metres (200 ft) above the city centre. Its current appearance mainly originated in the 16th and 19th century. The Sparrenburg is considered to be Bielefeld's landmark. In my first visit of Bielefeld I visited this place and I really enjoyed its landscape. You can see the whole city above.

This was my first castle to visit in Germany. It was breathtaking and you could feel the vibes soon as walked onto the site. Walking up the tower and get a chance to view & over look Bielefeld is amazing to say the least! The cost €2.00 is worth every penny and more. Remember to bring a small lock for you and your spouse love forever. I forgot it in the suitcase. I loved this castle so much I went three times.

Familienausflug zum Sparrenburg Fest! Es war richtig schön! Man konnte viel von der Burg sehen, das mittelalterliche Ambiente genießen und den tollen Weitblick über Bielefeld! Wetter hat auch gut mitgespielt! Immer wieder ein Ausflug Wert! 👌

Obwohl sehr gut besucht, ist es nicht überlaufen! Tipp fürs Parken. Gleich ins Parkhaus in der Altstadt fahren. Der Weg ist nicht weit und es ist wesentlich günstiger, als ein Strafzettel!

Sehr schönes Ausflugsziel. Auch super mit E-Scooter erreichbar. Ein kleines Café gibt es im Bürgern auch.

Eine Führung durch die Katakomben (bitte rechtzeitig auf der Webseite schauen!) ist genauso empfehlenswert, wie die Besteigung des Turms. Die Anlage ist in weiten Teilen auch für Kinderwagen und Rollstühle gut geeignet. An der Burg bestehen einige Parkplätze. Sie ist aber auch sehr gut zu Fuß über den Kammweg, aus Bethel oder der Bielefelder Altstadt zu Fuß zu erreichen.

Es sind ausreichend kostenpflichtige Parkplätze vor Ort vorhanden. Außerdem sind dort Wanderwege ausgeschildert, ein Besuch bietet sich im Rahmen eines Tagesausflugs nach Bielefeld durchaus an.

It is a beautiful place to visit, relatively easy to get to. You have the whole city in your plate to see from above. If the weather is nice and especially in the sunset everything looks golden and amazing. Truly one of the highlights of Bielefeld.

We always love visiting this castle/fortress when in Bielefeld. Most areas are free to wander around like the ramparts. There is a small cost to go up the tower but it gives you great views of the city. There is also a tour for a small cost of the underground parts of the fortress. It is very interesting but only in German! I do appreciate the historical information plaques scattered around the buildings both in German and English. The kids also enjoy the playground just outside of the castle.
