I have been several times now and have tried different buns. My least favourite, the ham hock and chicken trench, only because of the unexpected surprise or raisins in the mix which I don't enjoy. My most favourite is the rarebit special, this was so scrumptious I could've eaten two. Sweet or savoury, the buns are tasty! The Jane Austen coffee is the best coffee Ive had, costly but worth it. The service is always exceptional and I always feel welcomed. My last visit I went downstairs to the museum. This is a very small room with a shop. The shop had souvenirs and spreads. Handy if you want to take some home. Sally Lunns Buns have a piece of my heart and I definitely recommend if you want a good meal.

A must go in Bath! It is true, there's a queue but it's also smooth and the experience inside is worth the wait! I really enjoyed my time there and the food was amazing! The Buns are indeed delicious and the the tea comes with almost every dish (but check the menu for more precise info). Very interesting to be able to have a look around the building which is apparently the oldest in Bath AND don't forget to visit the basement before you leave as you can see how originally buns were made and you can buy some to take home! 😃

The food was surprisingly delightful! I especially loved the Braised Beef & Mushroom's savory flavors and texture. The warm hospitality from the staff added to the charm of the old-fashioned atmosphere. It felt like stepping back in time! I left feeling full and happy.

We enjoyed this place and eating that historical food! The staff was very friendly, except one waiter, who refused to give us the clean plates😳 We ordered some starters and wanted to share them and he brought only one saying the other two people have the plates with food…. Not acceptable in the restaurant! I dont understand what was the problem to bring extra clean plates Also that waiter brought me coffee with cows milk and I had to ask for a replacement as I ordered a plant milk… Overall the food was extraordinary for us - tourists in Bath and we felt excited to approach to the local history and the cuisine. The little museum and food shop at the basement was also cute with a sweet lady by a till I think it’s a must visit place in Bath

This place has history. It's charming and cute. Perhaps that's why I expected more of the food, and I was left wondering what the fuss was all about. Whilst yes, the buns were fluffy and bitey, the toppings in itself, i.e., the mediocre salmon was average at best and no better than something I can find at a local deli in London. The beef stewed with ale was the only one worthy of praise and mention. Service was lacklustre, and they somehow managed to serve my dessert (average bread and butter pudding) first. But of course, the 10% service charge gratuity was still expected. Come here for the history (yes, a tourist trap), but it the food isn't really one worth writing home about nor lining up for.

Eating here today I had the garlic bread like thing for starter, the size of which made my draw drop when it came out. Despite this, the bread was light and fluffy so wasn't difficult to finish, and I still had room for my main. When my main came out I was disappointed to discover that the salmon was on top of this same bread that I'd had as a starter. It would have been nice if the staff had let me know this when ordering. The main was served with boiled vegetables, nothing special but also nothing terrible... It kind of reminded me of home cooking so I quite liked it actually. I wish I could say the same about the poached salmon, which I find to be dry and bland. There was some sauce between the salmon and the bread, but not nearly enough. My wife had the chicken dish for her main, the chicken in which was soft and tender, and the sauce was plentiful. But finally the restaurant really finished on a high note and the dessert is the reason that I'm giving 4 stars instead of 3, we shared the meringue which was topped with raspberry and vanilla ice cream. Delicious, simply delicious. Balanced flavour, not overly sweet, not at all bitter. Great textures in the ice cream and the meringue that complimented eachother perfectly. Can't fault this dish. The staff were nice and friendly, quick to resolve any requests but perhaps not as attentive as they could have been. Any time we needed something such as the desserts menu we had to call someone over and ask for it, it wasn't just offered to us after our mains as you'd expect. This was only a tiny inconvenience though, unless you're of a particularly shy disposition this won't be much of an issue. As for the restaurant itself, we just walked in without a booking but were still seated quickly. From the outside the restaurant has a great look, and that great look extends to the interior decoration in the dining area, at least the one on the first floor where we were sat. In the hallways though it was a little untidy, and the toilets were quite dated, but perhaps that's a symptom of being an active restaurant in an old house. The hand soap in the toilets had clearly been watered down though and this is a pet hate of mine, it's £1 per bottle, how much are you really saving by watering it down?

Nice place! If you like historic old buildings this is it. Nice Tearoom and there is a little museum downstairs. The museum was the smallest one I have ever seen. We visited the place in the Saturday and it was busy, so maybe try and find quieter times to come here if you can.

Highly recommend! One of the must do things in Bath. Hyped yes but worth it! Such soft and tasty Buns! A loaded bun is enough for one person. We ordered one savoury and one sweet and shared! N offcourse got packed for home too! It last for 5-6 days and you can freeze it over 1 month n enjoy later! Just buttered or with nutella this is good stuff! Has a small museum too inside and the boxes are so pretty. I actually never threw away the boxes and kept it as a souvenir! Perfect for gifting too if you are returning from Bath! The hot chocolate can be skipped. Long queue but do try it!

Great gem in Bath City centre. Had heard great things about it, and the queue outside shows how popular it is. The atmosphere was great and the decor was lovely. It's truly an old building, small and quirky. The buns were nice, but I wasn't aware that you only get half a bun 😅. So, if you get a top half or bottom half, obviously, it will be a different consistency. Luckily, it was two of us, and I got to try both halves. I had the cinnamon butter, and it was very sweet. I'm not sure I would go back as I feel like it was kinda pricy for half toasted bun. But I enjoyed the experience overall.

Felt very rushed to order, with the waitress getting very angry at us as we just sat down and received our menus. She came back 3 times in a space of 1 minute each, and felt very pressured to order something each, and her attitude was very bad. You can tell she wanted to scream at us if she had to come back a forth time. The plates were slammed into the table, thankfully the tea was given to my fiancé in a more human way. The salt beef was bland, and the bun itself was nothing special. It’s just a large bun with the top baked part trimmed off. The ham hock felt a bit too salty. Our bill came to £28, which is extortionate. Clearly a tourist trap. The museum was a small room in the basement. It’s just a glorified half sandwich, and I’ve never left a restaurant livid but this place took it.

Worth a stop if you're in the area. The service was quick and the tea was nice. It is a nice place to stop for a few minutes and relax if you're out and about in Bath. The Sally Lun buns aren't the best things you're ever going to try, but worth having if you've never tried it.

Visited with my girlfriend as a finale to a 3 day birthday weekend. I had visited Bath previously with my father but he was much to impatient to queue for this in the middle of the day. Lady & I visited of an early evening so fell within scope of the dinner menu. I had the Braisee Beef & Mushroom Trencher, she had the savory pie of the day, Lamb. Both dishes were an enjoyable dinner before our long drive home. Vegetables, meat, bread & pastry were served in a charming dining room. The food itself was like a home cooked comfort food meal. A worthwhile visited for historical importance & local culinary fare in Bath.

Love the Tearooms and it's big Buns, the guy who served us was friendly to. Museum was the smallest museum I've ever come across but the lady we spoke to was very friendly and informative. This place does get full to the brim so maybe try and find quieter times to come here if you can, also there is a sneaky service charge, which one is not warned about, but as we were going to tip anyway, we just paid the service charge and not tip.

Awesome history, excellent authentic and unique food. The Bath buns are like no others, toasted with butter, crisp outside, moist inside, slightly sweet, amazing. Wish we could get them at home. The pork hock trencher was delicious and reminded me of my grandmother’s ragu. Only detractor was one slow and sub-par waiter, all the other servers seemed to be energetic and on point. A must do if in Bath.

The food is good and special. The menu introduce what Beth bun is. The price of the food is friendly as well. There is a small museum at the basement. Introduce a lot of cool thing about the history of this restaurant. I will say this is the must-go destination when you visit Beth.

Eat their few times when lived in Bath and the food was good. I love their small museum and take away bun, like to buy them every time we visiting Bath, this time they had a cinnamon butter for sale which I bought and tried and it was okay. The buns packages are super nice. I just think the bun and food a bit overpriced.

Love this place! 2nd visit here and the bun did not fail to dissapoint. Tried the chocolate topping this time. Had cinnamon previously. Will definitely be trying something different next. Can't visit Bath and not visit the oldest house

Only explored the museum below for a short time. If only visiting the museum like we did, we were told it’s okay to go straight downstairs to the museum and ignore the que for the tearoom. The hostess Vivian was so helpful in providing interesting information about Sally as well as other guests that might have been there. She mentioned the presence of a monk ghost which added a bit of fun and light humour to the quick tour. We took the opportunity to buy a bun to try later. It was delicious when toasted, buttered and spread with jam. A must see and try whilst in Bath.

Oh what delicious buns! Melt in the mouth + warm in my tummy! I tried the sweet ones (cinnamon butter) and I am sure the savoury ones would be equally good. I paid £10 for a coffee and a bun. Cute little museum downstairs with take way buns. However I recommend you eat it at the restaurant.

This is a lovely place to come and visit it really puts you into a time warp making you feel like you are in a Georgian eating house. The decor is very cool and it’s a real gimmick for tourists, you’ll have to cue for a long time I think we cued for like an hour for this place so maybe best to go when it opens. If you’d like to try the famous buns without the long cue you can get them in the museum as a take away well worth doing. The museum is terrible so probably don’t go to see that. The staff are very busy so give them a little consideration but honestly our waiter was awful, they had run out of the salt beef after cueing for an hour, he took our order then left and just forgot everything, the food took forever and he tried to speak to us afterwards and I really was no amused by that point. I recommend the Victoria sponge, it melts in the mouth and really is worth the time, the savoury buns are excellent as well so make sure you make that. Yea is also very tasty.

Overall, this is well worth a visit.our waiter Frank was really lovely! We were a party of 6 and came here for breakfast. We also bought some buns to takeaway. Because we had a selection of breakfast,I would strongly recommend the French toast served with bacon and honey. The history of the place and the deco inside is gorgeous.i thoroughly enjoyed it. The 1 star lost due to the prices, but that was made up for in the food quality

We went here to taste the bath buns. There is a small museum too inside. It’s he place is established in the oldest house of bath. The house looked old and weary but the restaurant has made the best of it. We had tea and the cinnamon butter bath bun, also another bun with salmon on it! Both were extremely good 😊 Must visit!

Historic! Everything about the place, people and the authenticity of the food definitely is a treat. A birthday breakfast at Sally Lunn's was the start to my day. The buns are undoubtedly the best that I had with an amazing spread of butter. It's just iconic. I would recommend everyone visiting Bath, must do themselves a great favour to visit Sally Lunn's Historic Eating House.

Going to Bath, this is a must go place as seen from all travel blogs and websites. Being skeptical I went in with zero expectation. Surprisingly the food is quite good. I had a savoury bun as I was hungry together with the Sally Lunn tea. The place is big with three floors so it was easy to get tables. There is a little museum at the basement where people who dine in can enter for free.

We went without a booking and they managed to fit us in despite their busy schedule. Staff were nice and the bun was really nice too. Personally loved it savoury (salt beef) and wasn’t too big of a fan of the cinnamon butter one but overall it was really good and definitely understand the hype.

Visited Sally Lunn‘s for the first time in October although I’ve been to Bath a few times. The queue though long moved quite quickly and we were sat upstairs in corner by the fireplace. Lovely decor in a bit of a wonky house. We had savoury then sweet buns. They were all delicious. The saltbeef was my favourite. Service was quick and the waitress was friendly and attentive. Will definitely return if I’m in Bath again.

Sally Lunn does most excellent buns, and her beer is not bad either! This eating house is part of the fabric of Bath and although it has a reputation of always being busy, we enjoyed a quiet dinner with a good value set menu. I'd say that the buns are at their best with just plain butter, but they really do taste amazing however they are served.

Went at noon on a Monday so no queue. The museum and shop entrance is on the left of the dining room/window. Buns are incredibly soft and really come alive when toasted! Museum is small buy pretty cool. Definitely worth checking out when in Bath.

It is quite popular in Bath. I ordered the cinnamon butter covered bun. It was a bit disappointed to me because the texture was a bit dry. However, the staffs were friendly and the tea was good.

The Latte art scares me ^^ The sweet cinnamon with vanilla ice cream bun is amazing! The smoked salmon buns are not bad! The buns are like the submarine rolls in M&S:) Overall, the price is fair, it’s five out of ten.

The veg breakfast was very good. Cinnamon butter was great as well. Service was very slow though. But the lady who served us was kind enough to not charge us for hot chocolate compensating for the service. The oldest house of Bath is a must see with its small original staircase. The small museum is also very good taking us back in time.

Fabulous vibes. Went at around 3pm and had no line, took a while to get seated but food and waitresses were so quick to deliver my order once done. Bread was light and pillowy, comes with milk and sugar - museum is also cute underneath, which shuts at 4pm

Have heard loads about this amazing cute cafe and if visiting Bath ,do visit this amazing historic restaurant. We had Sally Lunns bun french toast with blended tea and Cinnamon bun with Jane Austen coffee blend. Both the buns were really soft and had good consistency. We also visited the museum downstairs and bought bun and cinnamon butter to take home. Overall it's worth a try if coming to Bath. We went by 10 am so didn't have to wait long ,but have heard by afternoon it gets busy. PS if having the bun at home-its better toasted.

  • 3/5 Arpita S. 1 year ago on Google
The menu did not have a lot of options, just about 6-8 options in sweet and savoury buns. Ordered 'Smoked Salmon' bun and 'Chocolate Bun'. I found only the sauce in salmon bun to be tasty. I feel the dish could have been better

  • 5/5 Amanda L. 2 years ago on Google
A lovely little museum and shop downstairs. We bought a bun to take away and some cinnamon butter and toasted it as recommended. It really was delicious and we were glad we popped in here during our time in Bath.

  • 4/5 Wilson T. 1 year ago on Google
Had the regular half bun with coffee. The coffee itself, though it says it will not be bitter… was pretty bitter. I had to load it up with cream and sugar (I usually drink it black). The bun itself was very good, cinnamon butter not too sweet and tasted quite nice. All in all for 10 GBP, it wasn’t super expensive but it was a nice small breakfast

  • 5/5 Nicole L. 2 years ago on Google
Ordered the world's famous cream tea and salt beef sally lunn. The former comes with top part of a bun, generously buttered and toasted served with clotted cream and strawberry jam with tea. Salt beef on the other hand uses the bottom part of the bun, slathered with nice amount of mustard, topped with salt beef and pickles/gherkins. Lovely food lovely service lovely tea room and after that we got to visit the little museum shop at the basement too.

This is my 5th time eating here ( not by choice, bringing friends and family as they are the ones curious about the food ). Over the years till the present day I have to be honest I am not sure why people would queue for food I consider mediocre at best. The one thing that has improved is that they went from having only desserts and tea, they now have additional dishes added. Prices probably considered fair now (inflation, prices didn't drop) compared to back in the days where its considered extravagant. I am only giving it 4 stars because its a historical house, and I do hope it survives for the next 20 years so I can continue to be bewildered by why people queue to eat here. And hopefully the wooden flooring on the ceiling can still sustain. Lots of cracks can be seen on the wooden panel on the ceiling.
