Would NOT recommend this place based on our experience. We booked a first floor private room. It was located beside the reception area. Room was dark, had mouldy walls, had a strong mouldy/musty smell, seemed to be a breeding ground for mosquitos (more found inside the room than outside), there was no AC and the location was far from everything. I could barely stand inside the room, let alone stay the night…it was gross and creepy. Very shortly after our arrival we let management know we were not going to stay. No refund was given even though we asked many times… I would absolutely avoid 👎

If you are thinking of staying in a peaceful place in Colombo, there is no other place like this . and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone and the rooftop is fantastic.

The rooms did the job. If you're backpacking its all you need and it's nice and cheap. The people running it were really helpful and it's next to a train line that takes you into the centre for pennies. The sun sets beautifully from the nearby beach.

Hostel type hotel as its name says and you can get individual rooms too. They have bunk beds on sharing rooms. Have a nice rooftop for relaxing evening. Five minute walk to the Mount Lavinia beach. About 10 minute walk to the Mount Lavinia railway station. Prices are reasonable, not too expensive.

I stayed here entering and exiting Sri Lanka. Entering Sri Lanka: This hostel was a 4 star experience. Great value for money, helpful staff, great rooftop. Exiting Sri Lanka: One star. I'll briefly explain. They threw out my toothbrush case 30 minutes before checkout time. I went to retrieve my toiletries at 10:30am prior to the 11am checkout time. To my horror, I saw my toothbrush case being swept up by the owners on the ground with other garbage. The only way you can touch my toothbrush case is if you remove my toothbrush from it, and then throw the case on the ground. And they had removed all of the bedding, and put all of my stuff on the lower bed to get a headstart on cleaning. They also asked me twice who checked out already. I don't work here. How am I supposed to know? Lastly, I checked in at 3pm. They said it would take one hour for my bedding. It was 9:30pm before I got my bedding. And most beds have a foothold for the top bunk. My bed's foothold faced the wall. Therefore, I had to put my feet on the other bunk bed's bottom bar and use that to boost myself onto my top bunk. The other guests laughed and said it was like parkour. Therefore, when I had to use the bathroom at 6am, I didn't go back to bed because someone's head was touching the bottom bar as they slept. Yes, it's only $5 USD per night so it's a little "you get what you pay for" situation. Again, my first stay was fine. But my second stay was awful. It's the first time hostel staff have ever thrown out some of my personal belongings. Especially when it was 30 minutes before checkout.

Amazing atmosphear great rooftop terrace almost like a private members club the owner was awsome and took us all on a day trip to the most amazing place on earth am not saying anymore you must go yourself to expirence.

My first day at Sri Lanka was perfect because we choose this hostel. Even though my flight arrived very early, they still let me check in and sleep because I was extremely jet lagged. Everyone was extremely friendly and even they made us a traditional sri lankan breakfast. Budget friendly, great rooftop, few meters away from the beach.

Lovely hang out roof top, very chilled vibes. Has a kitchen and fridge. Easy going people. Booked 3 nights here before I need to head to the airport. Near places to eat, 5 min walk to the beach. In the room has a locker for each person. The owner is a lovely guy, very easy going. Feel very calm and relaxed here. Thank you jade 👍😎

common areas are quite nice and staff was very helpful with providing necessary information regarding getting there (i arrived late at night). however, i found the room quite unpleasant - not cozy at all, beds made lots of squeaky noises. in terms of cleanliness i would not say it was the cleanest, nor the dirtiest. my bed sheets had some blood stains on them.

This is a great place to stop for a night if you are coming into or leaving SL, balancing proximity to beach and city conveniences. The hostel is clean and comfortable, safe and well-appointed.

Owner is oddly rude and short fused. There are better places in the neighborhood for better prices 👎

I had a great time at Colombo Beach Hostel. The staff, especially Rodney, were really nice and helpful. Rodney even fixed my broken meditation pillow, which was very kind of him. The hostel is clean and comfortable, and it has an amazing rooftop to relax on. It's a friendly place where you can easily meet other travelers. I highly recommend it for a pleasant stay in Colombo and I'm looking forward to staying there again.

So helpful! The main guy looked after us, helped us rent tuk tuks and gave us all the tips. The room is clean and air-conditioned and the vibe is great. Great to meet people

The Hostel is nice stay for your first or last stop in Sri Lanka. It has beach 5' walking, store as well. You can enjoy the rooftop and good vibe. If you wanna chill or enjoy first or last beach, closer to the airport, this is your place. Beds are comfortable and the owner is great guy.

Great place to stay when visiting Colombo. Far enough away from the bustle of the city and close to the beach. The staff here were over the top helpful and the service was great. Definitely recommend!!

This place has everything that one can ask from a hostel, but the most important it has the staff. I booked one night I ended up staying like 6 nights. In low season they are super flexible so if at 5 pm suddenly you decide that you want to sty they will welcome you with open arms. I booked 8 people room it was full got free upgrade to 4 people, and the second time even ac 6 people alone room coz no one was there. When I came i felt like at family home! They all will ask you how are you what did you do and ho was your day. In common area on the rooftop you can always get interesting people. Must stay in Mt. Lavinia.

I really like this hostel! The hotelmanager is very friendly and there is a nice common area, you can cook for your own, a fridge. At my stay there weren't that much people, but I was a little bit off season. When I need to stay again in Colombo, I'll come back 🙏🏼 Stayed in a 8 dorms room and was alone. Much space, could be at some points a little bit cleaner, but I don't say it's dirty! Cheap, friendly staff, pizza restaurant under the hostel, beach in the near. What else do you need? But one huge disadvantage is that there is no power between 11-15 o'clock and 21.15 up to 22-23 o'clock

This hostel has a lovely rooftop area with great view (although many bugs, take precautions) and short walk to the main street and the beach, very close to mount lavinia station for your onward journey and the staff are really helpful at advising around travel. The traditional Indonesian breakfasts were nice too. I had a 6 bed dorm to myself except for a gecko due to end of the season, really good for the price

Great place for solo travelers, amazing atmosphere, very helpful owner who helped me plan my whole trip around the island. Other hostels from this chain also worth visiting. Very close to the beach, breakfast available and good internet connection. Highly recommend it for your first day in Colombo

A budget friendly place to stay in Mount Lavinia. Staff were extremely helpful and was easy to contact. Less than 5 minutes away from the Galle Road. This place also comes with a rooftop with a decent view. Highly recommended.

My very first visit to this hotel. Friendly service and fantastic food.sepcially talking about the BBQ mouth watering 💦. Joy full environment with live dj entertainment. Highly Recommend you to visit this fabulous place

Really nice hostel with an amazing roof top area to hang out and meet people on. A walk to a (rather empty) beach takes inly about 3 minutes and there are some good options regarding restaurants, cafes (eg the French bakery) and groceries around. For the price the dorm was okay although the bathroom could’ve used some renovation. Staff seemed a bit unorganized at times like 2 out of my 4 days there, ordering breakfast wasn’t possible. All in all I would totally recommend the place though, particularly for solo travelers who want to meet people :)

The hostel has the best location: really calm area, just 200mts from the beach and 15 minutes by train from the city centre (Colombo). Good atmosphere. Amazing common area. Beautiful sea view. Staff very friendly and helpful. Free filtered water. Shared rooms (With fans) Private Rooms (With and Without A/C) The area around has many conveniences: market, pharmacy, restaurants. Just 15 min walking distance from Mount Lavinia train station and 5 min walking to bus stand (many options to go to Colombo)

Do not expect to sleep some days of the week. Their rooftop is playing music for half of the city. Guess what it can be for those having booked a room !!

Very nice personal, nice and cheap food, great tee. Just some meters to the amazing ocean. Beautiful rooftop and standard rooms and beds. The owner helped us to plan our trip and he is a nice person :)
