Went with a large group from work for breakfast at 9am on a Saturday. Plenty of food, nice variety. Only thing that wasn't up to scratch Was the black pudding which was slightly hard. Being a large group we booked the raised area which was plenty.

This place has a nice atmosphere and was quite busy when we visited however our food arrived fairly quickly. I had chicken strips and cheesy garlic bread that came with a generous side salad. Our food was very nice and all staff that interacted with us were friendly.

The visit to this place is one of the most awful experiences I've ever had dining out. First and last visit! No one to greet you at the door, I asked a lady walking by with a tray of drinks, but she didn't work there and couldn't help. Eventually a man, dishevelled looking came, no aplogies for being kept waiting, no chat at all actually,,, we were shown to a rickety, well used table on a filthy carpet in the middle of a characterless area. Once shown where we were sitting the server walked away, no conversation at all, "this is your table", walked away. I went to the bar eventually as that's what other people were doing. Nothing I can say about it is good. The staff, older members rude.. younger members inexperienced. Food, well Carvery, was in a disgusting state presentation wise. Veg hadn't been replenished for some time, roast potatoes were hard on outside and cold inside, cauliflower cheese was grey. Even though we had bought larger plate, the meat sliced was thinly sliced, 3 slices,, we were there at 5pm the choice of 2 meats surprised me and they had been there for some time. When I booked the man, who gave no name, said I could book from 5 as that's when food could be ordered from. The whole meal looked and tasted like warm up. I left mine, my husband ate what he could but neither of us enjoyed food or place. It was my husbands birthday and he loves carvery and I wanted to try somewhere near to Milton Keynes as we had another event booked that night. If it wasn't for the fact I didn't know anywhere else at short notice I would of got up and left. You pay when you queue at the bar for ages to place your order. Didn't see name badges on staff. Furnished poorly, tired and worn. Noisy children running around didn't make for pleasant dining out. I did ask to sit away from family area when I booked, Thankfully we didn't have to wait to pay so we just walked out and left. No one spoke to us to ask about our experience,,, so there you are,, hope that my negative observations don't put you off going. It looks nothing like the website presents it to be, cozy it's not, clean it's not, friendly it's not, good value for money it's not,,, I'm stopping now, you get the picture, it's not a place I'd recommend nor visit again

Went for the carvery. The roast potatoes were very poor. In fact they looked more like boiled potatoes. Even when you cut into them, they weren't fully cooked. They couldn't even be bothered to take out the eyes. Will not be returning to thus place again

Pros: Good selection of food on menu and reasonably priced. Good selection of self-serve veggies on carvery. Nice cold beers. Cons: Queue to order way too long, one man serving on his own on a Friday evening; queue about 8 deep. Man cutting meat choices on carvery way too tight, ordered a large carvery and had 3 small bits of gammon plus one thin slice of turkey. If that was large I dread to think what standard was. Would then have ordered what looked lovely ice cream but again queue too long so gave this a miss. Overall seemed nice but had no interaction with staff other than mentioned, one too slow in serving and the other too mean with portions. Disappointing and sadly not value for money.

Sunday Lunch Carvery meal for 7, standard portions more than adequate, can't imaging eating the large let alone the bigger one. Small was ideal for a pensioner or children but not exactly small either. Food and service great. Will be going again.

Unfortunately up there competing for the worst meal I’ve had in 50 years on this planet. I didn’t expect very much but this place underwhelmed my low expectations. The food was dire; overcooked veg, soggy potatoes or burnt potatoes, salty gravy and dry meats. The Yorkshire puddings were like eating paper. The clientele consisted of noisy kids, listening to their tablets full volume; poorly behaved adults (if you like builders bums, this is the place) and obnoxious patrons. The staff were pleasant and the manager very cheerful. The price was very inexpensive, so perhaps my expectations should have been even lower.

Great carvery, as well as the rest of the menu being very good and well priced. The cakes are absolutely massive and really nice too. It has a kids' area to keep them entertained.

Friendly staff & great atmosphere. Carvery is really nice (would love to recommend serving peas on there as that is the only veg I eat! But that's my only negative point here) The cakes are absolutely delicious, huge slices too - must try! Me & my friends all really enjoy going here for food & a catch up :)

We came to The Maypole for NYE. Chris, the assistant manager was very attentive to all our needs, very polite and friendly to match with a lovely personality! He really made our little one feel at home and had lots of time for him. The food was beautiful! Carvery lovely quality and nice and hot. Tom the chef, was really friendly too (asking how our Christmas was) with a smile to match! The cakes here are absolutely amazing! You’ll need a cake box to take 3/4 of it home as they are massive!!!!! We will definitely be back soon!! Thank you so much for a NYE meal to remember!!! All the very best for a happy and healthy 2023! Sarah, Kev and Logan xx

Went for a carvery meal as a family.... The carvery itself was awful. Everything barely luke-warm, if not cold. Some things were just really greasy, mash dehydrated.... Family member got steak and chips, which arrived cold. Was sent back to kitchen only for a new one to arrive cold.... The only saving grace of this place was it's cakes. They were absolutely phenomenal.... If you do go here, go for a drink and a cake from the cake counter.... Don't go for the "fresh" and "hot" food....

Had lunch here yesterday with colleagues and we were all very impressed. We ordered via the app and found that to be really easy, including those who hadn’t previously downloaded or registered. The service from Jade was friendly and warm and the food was served quickly. Everything was delicious and plentiful, we’d seen the cakes in the way in and they looked amazing but we were just too full to even think about ordering dessert!

Bloody awesome fish and chips. Lovely mushy peas. A real family treat. Tummy is bursting. Service was quick, if a little mechanical. All hot courses were hot and drinks fast and cold.

We came here about a year ago and we were a bit disappointed with the food. We returned today for the first time in a year and the food that was so good. We had the beer battered fish and smoked bacon cheeseburger. The service was great and also ordered the funfetti cake to take away which was really nice.

Was busy when we arrived but staff communicated with us very well & let us know there would be a wait on food. There was a bit of a mishap with 2 of the dishes but manager Chris went above & beyond to get this issue sorted very efficiently. He then made the effort to check on us to make sure everything was okay and apologised profusely. Chris certainly made it a great experience for us, would most definitely return!

A variety of hot food, Alcoholic beverages and deserts available. A carvery offering substantial slices of beef, Pork, Gammon or Turkey with a selection of freshly cooked hot vegetables. Family friendly atmosphere catering for all needs from children to gran parents.

We booked a table for 15 on Sunday 6 August for a birthday party. Every member of staff was very supportive from booking the table on the phone to serving us on that day. The assistant manager, Chris, is amazing. He is very polite to us and all his customers; making the birthday mum felt welcome and happy; and making the teens enjoying the meal at there too. The roast is great and the cakes are mega BIG!! We definitely will come back for meals again.

Food was tasty (I had the mini lunch carvery!), though we never got our desserts. Luckily Chris, the legendary assistant manager, sorted it out without quibble and even provided cake as an apology. No complaints from me!

Initially went here due to another carvery being fully booked, have to admit however we won't use anywhere else now. The food is really good, multiple options not just carvery and the atmosphere is very good. They also do Blue light discount for those that qualify. If you still have room after your dinner the puddings are massive and very reasonably priced too.

Came for the first time this evening, short notice with a large party and they were happy to fit us in. Had the best carvery we have had in a long time. Great quality and choice and really accommodating to vegetarians and the meat eaters said it was the best beef they had eaten for a long time. Can't wait to come back for those amazing cakes 😋 Sean and Chris went out of their way to help us, thank you

Mine and my friends’ children always choose to go here for their birthday celebrations, they are always well catered for and the staff are very attentive. Chris, the assistant manager was particularly helpful and attentive today, he even lit the candles twice during the birthday cake celebration.

Chris went above and beyond when my just eat order was missing a meal! Called the restaurant and spoke with Chris who told me to come in ASAP so he could amend the wrong, arrived at maypole and was greeted by Chris who was so lovely and polite, took me to the carvery and got the wonderful chef to take good care of me! Chris dealt with this issue in such a good manner and was very apologetic about the situation! Overall such a lovely member of staff!

Prebooked a family birthday meal stating we needed a high chair. When we arrived there was no high chair at the table. We asked for a high chair but the staff took so long to get one, we got one ourselves. They were not busy by any stretch of the imagined, yet still took 35 minutes to bring out 3 meals from the kitchen. When we asked a manager, how long it was going to be as our 14 month old daughter was waiting for her food, she said a few minutes as they are just plating up. Took them a further 10 minutes to then bring out the food. The chef on the carvery acted like he couldn't be bothered either. My meal was slap bang average with an over cooked steak and bland sausages. Garlic bread was basically burnt toast. Saving grave was the person who served us towards the end who actually looked like he wanted to be half arsed. Staff were stood around talking at the bar area and booking table at the entrance too. We had to ask to have the table cleared also when we were leaving.

Nice pub and in general all is ok. Food is tasty, but sometimes, the service is slow. We are there from time to time, mainly for breakfast, which is also served as a buffet, and today we had a bad experience as food was missing and was a bit cold. Anyway, we will come back at some point, hopefully it was one off.

We arrived slightly early and was greater by a very friendly man who seated us instantly. We ordered via the app. We could see the bar team were busy. We waited about 15-20minutes and received our starters before drinks. This was when we started looking at the pub. The carvery station was dirty with food on sides and floors that were not once cleaned or food picked up the whole time we were there. The kitchen was a mess!! Dirty tins seen, wires exposed and food on floor. Staff had dirty aprons and were touching their mobile phones, hair and noses then dealing with food. We also had a chicken comb which didn't taste of anything. The corn on the cob was dehydrated and hard and the BBQ sauce had a film on it and looked black. The restaurant was busy so we ate and left, meals were not particularly enjoyed. A family member stopped outside for a smoke and saw a member of staff and said we weren't impressed. Member of staff offered to get a manager to which we said yes. We waited 15+ minutes for a manager to come and talk to us but then gave up waiting. We will not be returning to the pub at all

Came for the carvery - everything fresh and in abundance. Staff were great, we were served by Aaliyah, she was lovely and polite. The only suggestion I would add is that there wasn't much choice for the rose wine. A nice French would be the icing on the cake.

We went for a meal with friends (4 people in total). We booked for Sunday lunchtime. The staff were friendly and accommodating as 2 of our party were disabled they answered our query quickly and efficiently. Our friends had the carvery and we ordered from the main menue. The portions were a good size and the food was lovely. I will definitely be back and would happily recommend this venue to friends and family.

Had a nice meal, festive burger that was a Christmas dinner in a burger. Was not too busy, social distancing was not a problem, the staff were efficient and polite. We shared a cheesecake dessert it was massive. Would recommend and will be going back.

Good service very friendly kind young lady waiters cosy and still covid safe. Well cooked food though chicken medley was bit crispy dark but tasty yummy had the tomato salsa with it can't rem the name but wasn't pepper corn sauce it was good. Not sure about plastic pint glass though was bigger and needed 2 hands pick it up. Few dirty water marks on it too.

Arrived today with my wife just after 12pm , we are regular customers for a carvery but today we're so disappointed to be offered roast potatoes that were like rocks. We asked if there where any fresh but they were all the same. These were clearly reheated from a previous day and like many others we had to settle for boiled and mash. Not what we have come to expect.

(Review from April 2022) The place was almost empty during half term which should have been a clue as to what was to come. Service as always was genuinely warm and cheerful from the staff but some elements were bit of a disappointment. We had an incorrect item added to the bill in the first instance then was given the wrong sized plate for one of our carveries. Carvery itself was mostly excellent, but we ordered chips for the kids and they were old and over cooked (recooked) with two very different sized portions. Dessert was a massive disappointment (see photos) when we're queried it an extra squirt of chocolate sauce was dumped on top. We also ordered a regular portion (2 scoops) of ice cream for the kids but was given a single scoop portion which bizarrely didn't come out with our desserts, we had to collect from the bar then they sent us back to the table bring it over. We also ordered decaf coffee due to a health condition and was given regular. Play area was lovely and clean and mostly well maintained apart from the bins which were full to the brim. (Review from August 2021) Cheap and cheerful. Honestly the best, most cheerful service here. But also the slowest. 20 minute wait for desserts when we were one of only 3 tables in the pub. 10 minute wait just to get service at the carvery (no other customers waiting). But food was super and the staff were just lovely.

Love the food in this place! Good selection of beers too. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the carvery chef Ryan was amazing and the bar staff wish I’d catch there names was great! Bare in mind we arrived during a very busy period for lunch! Take a bow Maypole staff!

Went for a Sunday roast. Staff were friendly and the food came really quickly. The meat was delicious and the potatoes, Yorkshire's and veg was yummy. Very reasonably priced and large portions.

We came here for Easter Sunday and it was so disappointing. So you can only order via app services, we didn’t realise and had to ask (30 minutes) after we fiddled with downloading the app we were able to go and queue. Only one person was serving which meant it took 20 minutes to be served. The meat was extremely bland and dry I had turkey and beef. Zero seasoning. The kids play area, I thought fantastic but all the items had been removed. The cakes looked fantastic but didn’t try.

  • 4/5 Jonathan D. 1 year ago on Google
Better than Toby but the beef always looks so dry that it may be absorbent! That, and the potatoes not being very crispy are the only issues though. Staff friendly, efficient service and ease of dining all on point.

We were wonderfully looked after by Kay and Chris when we came in on Thursday evening. Unfortunately there were some items not available on the menu which is the only reason I have put 4 stars rather than 5. Other than that, it was a great evening. We were a large group out together after my last day at work. The atmosphere was friendly and staff were so helpful. We didn't want to leave!

  • 3/5 Chris H. 2 years ago on Google
Food was okay, some of the seats were dirty as was some of the cutlery 🤮. But, 90 percent of the staff were friendly and helpful. One was obviously very busy and feeling the pressure. The prices were competitive and I was tempted by the app for ordering but decided against it as it is not a chain I will be frequenting much. Additional: I feel that I should point out that the problems raised above were dealt with quickly and promptly and that the area for small children is great. Sorry that I did not put this in my original review. I only put that I will not be frequenting because I rarely travel out of my home area and I am not a fan of 'pub grub'

The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived. We were a party of 12 with no booking but were turned away with no attempt to seat us. We found plenty of tables to be vacant, we were happy to be split up if this made it easier but we weren’t asked any questions just ushered out with what I can only describe as contempt by the female member of staff. I have never experienced treatment like this in the service industry and was shocked at the rudeness we were shown. We walked across the car park to the Brewers Fayre where we were welcomed and treated as paying customers should be.

First visit here. We were surprised by the portion sizes and value for money, especially the puddings. The food was good. The menus were quite grubby, needed a wipe off. The under 5 play area was ok, could perhaps do with a clean too and check older children playing in there roughly around the younger children! Chris was very friendly and helpful.

Well the food was good. Chairs and tables getting shabby. Food took ages to arrive. Coleslaw is listed as gluten free on the menu but the bar staff said it wasn't. We sat for a long time with dirty plates in front of us, isn't someone supposed to clear them away? Gave up on the idea of dessert after sitting with the dirty plates too long. One server was fiddling about arranging the dessert case while chatting to what seemed to be the manager. He tripped over the front of a case but just left it ready for someone else to trip on. Is this standard service?

Friendly staff. Carvery was fine except for the beef which was very dry.

  • 2/5 Alberto Roky P. 10 months ago on Google
We used in the past this place and the food used to be brilliant. BUT NOW SOMETHING HAS CHANGED (MAYBE THE KITCHEN STAFF/CHEFS) We have been recently there and we was shocked. The food was terrible. Chicken sharer used to be good, now was so rubbish, very disappointed. Most of the food was rubbish. At the carvery was missing turkey meat. We wanted to get pudding for kids and we been told that we can order later after the meal. When the kids was ready for pudding, we went to order and we been shocked by the answer we have received: the dessert chef left, he went home. We're not going to put our feet there till something will change. Wasted £60 there for dry food and lots of barbecue sauce,to cover the bad food. This is real and true review.

The atmosphere is excellent, the people welcomed us with a smile. We didn't book table, as we came from tough muddler. Chris sorted our difficulties and helped us with a table. Lovely place to dine in and looking forward to comeback.
