I took the “before” picture and I’m waiting for the renovation to take the “after”. This place got damaged from the Beirut Blast and we’re waiting for it to shine again. I took pictures of old trees in the sursock streets, one of them is aged since 1983...

You may want to visit the museum just to admire the architecture. Sadly, little is left from the original interior layout, but was left is worth seeing. The museum has a small permanent collection, but it's nonetheless interesting. The grand hall features exhibitions and competitions that may or may not be interesting as this depends on personal taste. If you are in Beirut and would like to have your cultural fix, then the museum is a must. Btw, entrance is free.

A stunning building and a wonderful collection of contemporary art. Lebanon has had a checkered modern history and the artists convey this experience and its impact on the minds of the population beautifully. There is a wonderful balance between the elegance and opulence of the architecture from a period of wealth contrasted with the harsh and confronting contemporary depictions of how the rest of Lebanon suffered during subsequent wars and current political situation

It’s back ! I love the exterior architecture of the sursock museum, and of course, most of all, the iconic windows. They have some nice exhibitions going on, but i liked mostly the one underground with the sound and visual projections.

Beautiful building and museum. Unfortunately it was partly destroyed in 2020 by explosion, but now you can still visit it. Free entrance but with donation option. I loved to feel the atmosphere of the building which started to be a museum after death of the landowner. Music was wonderful too! Thank you for opportunity to visit it! We saw 3 weddings with photographers and sweet sleeping cat :) You can find souvenir shop and nice cafe on the territory

The sursock museum is probably the most important and prestigious museum in Lebanon. It's located in achrafieh and it's very beautiful. The museum hosts many exhibitions throughout the year and they can be accessed anytime from 9 to 6. The exterior of the museum is worth the single visit and the path in the museum is clear and gently guided.

Nicolas Sursock Museum is a museum of contemporary art. It is named after Nicolas Sursock, a prominent art collector and philanthropist who bequeathed his family mansion to the city of Beirut to be used as a museum after his death. The museum houses a large collection of Lebanese and international art, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and glassware. The building itself is a work of art, with a unique blend of Ottoman and Italian architecture, and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The museum is a cultural landmark in Beirut and attracts visitors from all over the world.

The museum only opened a few years ago on a previously private estate and is accessible to the public for free (you are able to donate to the museum at the reception in the entrance hall). You can see some of the original rooms from the mansion and during my visit they showed a super interesting exhibition on Baalbek (city in Lebanon) and its rich history. Definitely a must see. I also spent quite some time in the library finding some books in German about Baalbek and the exploration done there over the years. Also check out the museum store outside of the museum next to the coffee.

The Sursock Museum is a private villa which was turned into a contemporary art museum housing collections from prominent Lebanese and International artists. The building itself is beautiful and a great example of Lebanese architecture. The collection changes a lot and includes modern art, Japanese engravings, old photographs... One of my favorite exhibition was "Baalbek, archives of an Eternity" but I also really enjoyed the latest Picasso exhibition.

I had high expectations for this museum and I found myself disappointed by the exhibitions on display. Nevertheless, I appreciate the fact that the work of local artists are being displayed to the public and are being constantly changing (new artists around every 2 months) allowing numerous and diverse artists to share their work. On another note, what made my visit worthy was the beauty of the building and its rooms.

Sursock is a free and amazing contemporary art museum in Beirut central area with a permanent exhibition that is often paired with other temporary exhibitions. The museum presents an interesting perspective on Arabic art, showing the richness of Arabic artists work and its relationship with the political context on which is embedded. The high point for me is the way the museum makes you reflect on the colonial approach of the so called western art and art critics towards the east, and how Arabic art has dealt with this place of the other to the west as a place of resistance and agency. When I visited the Museum (sep/2019) the temporary exhibition was about the city of Balbeque. A really interesting exhibition on the way Balbeque has become a place of a cultural dispute by different actors across history.

The building of the Museum itself is already very beautiful. It features elements of Arabic and Turkish Ottoman architecture. The space of the museum and its collection is very interesting. The temporary exhibition galleries feature local and international artists. The cafe outside and the patio are pleasant spaces for the end of the visitation.

The building is really impressive. The permanent collection is a mixed bunch, and not thoughtfully put together. However, in the basement gallery, which the largest one in it, held a magnificent exhibition about Helen Khal, a Lebanese artist egi, along with her husband, Yusuf Khal, played a major role in the artistic scene on the 60s and 70s Beirut. These two painting were tributes to Rothko.
