The attractive Dany Chamoun Square, also known as al-Midan, is named after the younger son of former President Camille Chamoun; both father and son were born in Deir el-Qamar. The fountain dates from the 19th century and was used as a water source for travelers. Located on the corner of the square is the the Fakhr el-Dine Maan Mosque. Dating from 1493, it was built over a Mamluk structure. It's a beautiful place to drop by on your way to the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, the biggest natural reserve in Lebanon. Instagram @profnasr

Nice place Very Lovely square in Deir el Qamar surrounded by historical buildings Crusader periodEdit The oldest written reference to Deir el Qamar (Deir elcamar or Deir elchamar) goes back to 1257 and 1261 in the deeds of Julian of Shouf and Andrew of Shouf selling their lands and villages in their lordship of Shouf Deir al-Qamar (Arabic: دير القمر), meaning "Monastery of the Moon" is a city south-east of Beirut in south-central Lebanon. It is located five kilometres outside of Beiteddine in the Chouf District of the Mount Lebanon Governorate at 800 m of average altitude During the 16th to 18th centuries, Deir al-Qamar was the capital and the residence of the Emirate of Mount Lebanon. It is also notable for its 15th-century Fakhreddine Mosque, Fakhreddine II Palace, and the palace of the Emir Yusuf Shihab - today housing the Municipal Council.[2] A 17th-century synagogue is still standing in the village, although closed to the public. During its peak, the city was the centre of Lebanese literary tradition. It was the first village in Lebanon to have a municipality in 1864, and it is the birthplace of many well known personalities, such as artists, writers, and politicians. It was the winter capital of the Druze Cancimat[clarification needed] of Lebanon (1840-1860), the summer capital being Baakleen. People from all religious backgrounds lived there and the town had a mosque, synagogue and Christian churches. In the year 1860, Deir al-Qamar was destroyed during the civil war between Druze and Christians during which the town was set ablaze.[3] Napoleon III sent a French contingent to rebuild it, recalling France ancient role as protector of the Christians in the Ottoman Empire as established by a treaty in 1523. In 1864, Deir el-Qamar elected the first municipality in the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire

beautiful place for tourists and families. There's a fountain. a statue of president camille chamoun and a stone painting dedicated to his martyr son dany chamoun. you can find also some local shops for antiquities. Some of the events could happen in this courtyard.

Very nice village and place to be, you feel the history and tradition with every stone. It lacks some lights by night for a safe walk. Lack of electricity in Lebanon nowadays is surely not helping. Too bad you don't find tamrié anymore

A historical place with a lot of attractions. It is a must stop while going to Biet El Deen. Unfortunately the water fountain ⛲ is closed for public and the reasons are clear, because no one respects the rules.

Beautiful and romantic place located on the mountain. It means "the monastery of the moon" and it offers a mix of tradition and breathing view of the sunset that colours the sky. It deserves a one day tour.
