This was our 4th year here and I am so glad I first found them by Google. We love it there. Close to downtown Belfast, cute shops there. No matter which cottage you are in you have a great view of the water. The beach was great. I know it’s a private beach but there was never too many people down there. The cottage we got this year was perfect. You walk in and it smells so clean! The mattress was a bit soft. We enjoyed having our meals and morning coffee in the enclosed porch. However the cottage we had was up against a tree line so the open patio didn’t get a lot of sun in the afternoon. We will definitely go again. Our son even booked to go there next month! And a lovely touch with the towel swans!

In my opinion, it is rare when something is as good as stated online. In the case of colonial gables, the cottage that we stayed in was better than expected. It was obvious that it had undergone a renovation, everything was neat and clean, and there is plenty there for us to use to make this our home away from home. The only negative was that we were only there for one night for a business/short personal trip, everything with the place though, was perfect. This is definitely the kind of place to visit again. Service was excellent, and very accommodating.

Let's start by saying the most important... Ed and Skipper.. Ed, thank you so much for going above and beyond to retrieve and return my mother's bag! Your hospitality persona was a highlight of my stay there and if you are lucky enough to meet the 2nd in command Skipper, he is a true treat! Being treated by his beautiful orange fur and loving hello had me smiling for hours!! THANK YOU Ed!! To my review of the facilities, the cottages are super cute. We stayed in a one room cottage with kitchenette (and I mean ette). 2 burner stove top, microwave and mini fridge. Room has a small coffee maker and the kitchen supplies that work perfect for a couple to get away from the hustle and bustle. King bed, which if I had to make 1 complaint (and that is if someone was forcing me to make 1) the bed was not the comfiest, but don't let that deter you in anyway shape or form.. The view is beautiful being right on the beach. You can watch sail boats passby, ducks meandering the waves and people watch the small numbers of guest beachcombing the sands. At night the area turns into a quiet relaxing evening as you are sitting on the deck, looking at the infinite numbers of stars, hearing the waves crash or the flowing water from the brook. In the early evening hours you can join in with the other guest at the bonfire on the beach. I highly recommend this destination for a quick detour from your every day life. Well worth the trip!!!!

My husband and I came up to stay at the cabins last week. I was very impressed. We rented a king size bed cabin with a mini kitchen and bathroom. It had ocean views, and a nice deck out front. I was highly impressed with the cabin as it appeared recently renovated. It had a nice TV, and all the amenities for the kitchen. Best of all, they are pet friendly. The beach was great, too! Would return.

Amazing place on the water! Outdoor games available and spectacular views from the ocean. Super clean. Fairly comfortable beds. Great location! About a 10-15 minute drive to Belfast!

Location was awesome, water was amazing quality. We stayed here for one night and 1 day. Rooms was ok. The ground felt a bit dusty, but the cottage was nice and cozy.

We stayed in cabin 49. I'm not joking when I say that we literally almost changed our travel plans to stay an extra night. I think we got an upgrade, but the cottage is something I would live in. I opted to pay a little more to get a cottage instead of the motel style room, but noted that even those had a private balcony style area. The view was amazing, but nature decided to be cloudy and not give us the sunrise we hoped for. At night you can actually see the stars and lay out on the deck to view them. The cottage itself I would say is what I would picture a grandmothers beach house would look like. It's dated, but in a consistent and cute way. The kitchen has everything you could need in it and full sized equipment. When we entered there was a very strong smell of dog, so fair warning for those with allergies. I wish a can of air-freshener was provided for that. Otherwise, it was very clean and quiet. The bedrooms were spacious, but heads up for families traveling- the beds are pushed against a wall. Really I have to feel a bit bad for housekeeping. The only thing I wish would be upgraded was extra outlets near the beds to charge your phone. Beds were firm, but not rock hard. Curtains seemed to do a good job of keeping light out. I would completely stay here again!

After three amazing visits, an annual trip to Colonial Gables is now an absolute must-have in my life. It is rare to find such a combination of seclusion and convenience, not to mention both attentive service and comfortable privacy. The cabins are constantly being renovated in the off-season and so each time I come back, my stay has been in a beautifully fresh and thoughtfully appointed place. It is clear that the management of this property has a lifetime of experience in hospitality as every corner of the grounds is well-tended and the staff are swift, friendly, and helpful. Every cuisine, shopping street, and sightseeing highlight can be had within a short drive but you may, like me, spend most of your time on a private porch, watching the tides come in and out, wishing you could stay forever.

Haven’t stayed here for 20 years but found it just as charming and beautiful! It’s right on the ocean! Friendly staff, remodeled rooms and perfect for traveling with a dog. Clean and neat, we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!

Sorry, for me having the waves and smells right outside bedroom was nauseating. Stayed on a night when tropical storm was approaching with rip currents and storm surge. Waves crashed up against cottage all night with rain falling. Partner loved it and slept all night.

Great views of Penibscott bay, every cabin to rent has an awesome view. Very homey cabin although mattresses are dated

Overall very nice cottages and staff. Would clarify - it is on Penobscot Bay which is beautiful but there were not any waves, like one might expect if it was ocean front. The beach was fairly far from our cabin but others where with in a 1/2 block. The kitchen was a little sparse, one small saucer, 3 spoons, 4 cups, no broiler pan.

The best motel I have ever stayed in! Rooms were spotless with lots of extra amenities, complementary hot cider and cookies at check in. Mollie at reception was super friendly with a vast knowledge of the local area, I would love to return here for a much longer stay, simply stunning!!
