This title translates to 'sacred whirlpool'. It is located at a bend in the Tungabhadra between two hilly outcrops, the Rishimukha and the Matanga. As the river becomes slightly narrower when it changes direction, it creates currents and eddys in the flow. Legend dictates that this is the most sacred spot on the Tungabhadra as this is the location where Lord Shiva handed over the celestial weapon, the Chakra, to Lord Vishnu. Local stories abound that one can discern the faces of Sita, Lakshmana and Sri Rama in the swirling waters of the river. There are carved figures on the rocky shore depicting footprints, shiv kings and chakras.

A place consists of many temples and coracle boating point where you can have coracle ride of 30 mins or 1 hrs.You can also visit some ruins which are not accessible otherwise like purandhar mandapa and a temple where image of sheshashayi Vishnu is engraved. But it seems that there is monopoly among the boatmen and they have created some sort of cartel .They ask for very high price like 800 rs for 30 mins per coracle,it’s seems very costly.coracle is boat made from coconut jutes and its trees component and its unique as it is difficult to find such ride in other part of India. However the place is quite scenic.

Being a solo traveler, this ghat was one of the best places of my trip of hampi, I spent a lot of time just sitting there, listening music and inhaling the beauty of the river and it's surrounding.

    (Translated by Google) Chakratirtha Anagundi (Hampi) The Tungabhadra river takes an arched curve here. This is called Chakratirtha. When Shri Ram Pushpak was going to Ayodhya by plane, the plane landed at the request of mother Sita. Later, Sugriva built the Kodand Ram Temple here. V.A. 6/123/23 to 36 Sriram has come to Kushkindha from Lanka by Pushpak aircraft first, from there comes Bharadwaj Ashram and from there the plane landed at Bhadarsha site near Ayodhya ji.

Name of the place is due the constant whirlpool being seen in tungabhadra river. Its an amazing place to spend an hour or so. Circular boat rides are available here. This place has a rich interesting history of our culture. There are different points from the past which you can witness here through boat rides. there are many stories ranging from Ramayan yug to today..a fascinating place..Must visit. Parking is 500mtr walk through stone paths. No monkeys/Langoors here.. Place is opposite to Kodandarama temple.

Beautiful place by the river tungabhadra which in my opinion is a must visit on one's trip to Hampi. The rivee flowing through boulders and with some greenery in the distance offers a really tranquil setting. You may alao opt for a ride on the round boats which are quite typical to the southern part of India. Continue straight along the river to meet the many ruins on the way finally to Vijaya Vitthala temple.

A place to view the tungabhadra river and take coracle rides at hampi. The coracle is a round basket large enough to accomodate 3 to 4 people and can float on water. We took the ride that costs 350 for 30mins with temples shown from coracle and ride under the tunnel rock. The ride under the large rock was initially looking impossible, but actually we found there was enough space once inside. The river though looks calm from the shore was actually very rough when we were in the water inside the coracle. The boatman had a hard time rowing back.

Serene place. Maintained clean however there are no toilets in the surrounding area. As it is backwaters, cannot get into the water. Avoid going during the lunch time. No ride between 1 to 2.30 pm

. One of the most famous location/monument of Hampi Unesco Heritage Village. . Chakratirtha is one of the holiest places in Hampi. . Located on the banks of the River Tungabhadra this point is close to the Kodanda Rama Temple. . Chokra tirta = Swirling River - this is also a very dangerous point, peoples say. . Taking holy bath in this Tirth & darshan in Kodanda Rama Temple is very auspecious.

Breathtakingly beautiful. Visit either in the evenings or early mornings, when there is no crowd. An amazing place to forget the world (quite literally as there is no phone reception!) A must do is the boat ride of the 1 hour package, during which one can see the caves inside the hills and the places where sages of the ancient times used to meditate.

Renowned for the famous Yantroddharaka Praana Devara Temple. The presiding deity was invoked by the great Saint Vyasarajaru, one of the icons of Madhwa philosophy. This small river body is also famous for its dangerous under currents. Serene and lovely! Synonymous with Peace and tranquility

Tungabadra river changes its directions & flows towards north. North flowing rivers are considered sacred & so this place is considered a holy thirtha. Sri Vyasaraja meditated here for 40 years

Chakratirtha in Hampi is considered to be one of the holiest places in the ruined city. It is located on the banks of the River Tungabhadra, close to the Kodanda Rama Temple. Chakratirtha is regarded as the most sacred bathing spot on the River Tungabhadra. The place holds huge attraction for pilgrims and is thronged by a large number of people on auspicious days. In the local language Chakratirtha means ‘the sacred water body that swirls.’ There are quite a few legends associated with Chakratirtha. According to one of the legends, Chakratirtha is the spot where Lord Shiva gave Lord Vishnu one of his most powerful weapons, the Chakra. The Chakra is a rapidly spinning disk-like weapon that is used by Vishnu to destroy the enemies. As per another legend, on some special occasions and auspicious days the swirl in the river forms images of Lord Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana.
