This is the largest statue in Hampi and depicts Lord Narasimha in a terrifying or angry form. Narasimha which means half-man and half-lion is one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. This monolithic structure, which is 6.7 m in height, has the lord sitting cross-legged position on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake Adishesha. Originally the statue also had Goddess Lakshmi sitting on lord’s lap, but according to history it was vandalised and damaged in the year 1565. The statue of Goddess Lakshmi can now be seen in Kamalapura Museum.

The Sri Laxminarshimba Statue in Hampi is an awe-inspiring masterpiece that radiates divine grace and beauty. Standing tall and majestic, this statue captivated me with its intricate details and serene presence. The craftsmanship displayed in the Sri Laxminarshimba Statue is exceptional. The intricate carvings and delicate features of Lord Laxminarshimba are a testament to the skill and devotion of the artisans who brought this statue to life. Every curve and expression exudes a sense of divinity and tranquility. The statue's location amidst the historical ruins of Hampi adds to its allure. Surrounded by the remnants of the Vijayanagara Empire, the Sri Laxminarshimba Statue stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region. I highly recommend taking a moment to admire the Sri Laxminarshimba Statue when exploring Hampi. It is a true marvel that embodies the spiritual essence and artistic legacy of this ancient city. Prepare to be mesmerized by its grandeur and embrace the profound sense of peace it imparts.

This 'temple' is known for the monolithic idol of Lord Narasimha, the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu, which stands about 20 feet tall. The Lord is seated on the coils of Adisesha, with its seven goods acting as a canopy. The roof of the chamber is missing, so there is some damage to the idol. The usual idol of Goddess Lakshmi on his left lap is missing. The temple is believed to have been consecrated in 1538 AD, as per the inscription. The temple is now closed and one can just observe the idol from afar..

The Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple in Hampi is a captivating testament to the religious and architectural brilliance of the Vijayanagara Empire. My visit to this sacred site was a profound experience, where history, spirituality, and artistry converged seamlessly. The temple's main deity, Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, is a towering monolith, sculpted from a single block of granite. The sheer scale and intricacy of the carving are awe-inspiring. The statue depicts Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, in a fierce yet divine form, exuding a sense of power and transcendence. The temple's architecture, adorned with detailed carvings and sculptures, reflects the Vijayanagara style at its zenith.

The Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple in Hampi is a stunning testimony to the Vijayanagara Empire's religious and architectural excellence. My journey to this sacred site was a life-changing experience in which history, spirituality, and creativity all intertwined. Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, the temple's principal deity, is a towering monolith carved from a single block of granite. The carving's sheer size and craftsmanship are breathtaking. Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is shown in a terrible yet divine form, oozing power and transcendence. The temple's architecture, embellished with intricate carvings and sculptures, exemplifies the peak of the Vijayanagara style.

This is the largest statue in Hampi. Narasimha is sitting on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake called Sesha. The heads of the snake acts as the hood above his head. The god sits in a cross-legged Yoga position with a belt supporting the knees. Sometimes this is referred as Ugra Narasimha (i.e. Narasimha in its terrifying form). The protruding eyes and the facial expression are the basis for this name. Narasimha (means half-man’half-lion in local the languages) is on of the ten incarnations (avatar) of Lord Vishnu. You can reach this spot by the main road. The shrine is located at mid way of the main road that connects the Sacred Center to the Royal Center. About 200 meters south of the Krishna Temple (take the road that runs through the arch) you can spot a small canal crossing the road. An unpaved path at the right side (towards west) leads you to the Narasimha statue and the Badavilinga Temple next to it

The Lakshmi Narasimha statue is one of the most imposing sculptures found in the ruined town of Hampi. The speciality of the sculpture is that it is the largest monolith statue in Hampi. The statue is located on the southern side of the Hemakuta group of temples that stand on the Hemakuta Hill. This gigantic stone structure is considered to be among the most important monuments found in Hampi. It is a major tourist attraction and is visited by a large number of people throughout the year. The Lakshmi Narasimha statue and the temple housing the statue were built in the year 1528 A.D. It was constructed during the rule of Krishnadevaraya, one of the greatest rulers of the Vijayanagara Empire. The temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Lakshmi. As such, the temple is known as the Lakshmi Narasimha Temple. The original sculpture had a small figure of Goddess Lakshmi, consort of Narasimha, sitting on his lap. The gigantic statue was vandalized and mutilated in 1565 A.D. during the raid by the Mughals that led to the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire. The limbs of Narasimha’s statue were broken during the attack. The figure of Lakshmi was separated from that of Narasimha. In the process of destruction, one of the hands of Goddess Lakshmi was broken and even today the broken hand of the Goddess can be seen resting on the back of Narasimha.

This Lakshmi Narasimha statue is very huge. This giant statue is located next to Krishna devalaya and near from Virupaksha temple. Badavilinga is located right next to this place. Some of the parts of this statue is destroyed by Bahamani's like hand, and Goddess Lakshmi statue. So no we can see only Narasimha. One can easily recognise this from the road and this is on the route to Vijaya Viththala temple from Virupaksha temple. Entry is Free.

This is the largest statue in Hampi. Narasimha is sitting on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake called Sesha. The heads of the snake acts as the hood above his head. The god sits in a cross-legged Yoga position with a belt supporting the knees. ⭐IMPORTANT INFO⭐ The idol is partially destroyed, but a small variant of the idol can be found on one of the pillars of Vijay Vitthala Temple, check the pictures attached along this review. The original statue contained the image of goddess Lakshmi, consort of the god, sitting on his lap. But this statue has been damaged seriously during the raid leading to the fall of Vijayanagara.

Adjacent to the Badaviling Temple. Boasts a splendid statue of God Narsimha, featuring exquisitely carved details. The scenic surroundings with coconut trees further enhance the charm of the place. There was goddess Laxmi sitting on the right hand of God Narsimha however the had was cut during war between Hindu & Muslim empower. Moderately crowded. Remember to bring your water bottle and cap for a comfortable experience.

Devine and unbeatable sculpture. This is the largest statue in Hampi. Narasimha is sitting on the coil of a giant seven-headed snake called Sesha. The heads of the snake acts as the hood above his head. The god sits in a cross-legged Yoga position with a belt supporting the knees.

The original statue contained the image of goddess Lakshmi, consort of the god, sitting on his lap. But this statue has been damaged seriously during the raid leading to the fall of Vijayanagara. Even the damaged portion of such a large statue of Lakshmi carved on his lap is missing. Probably it may be laying around in tiny pieces. But the goddess’s hand is visible resting on his back in embracing posture. If you get a chance to go inside this enclosure, it is possible to see the hand of the goddess. Even the nails & the rings on her fingers are so perfectly executed. Lion face of Lakshmi Narasimha also sometimes called as Unganarasimha (the ferocious Narasimha) Somehow this single statue alone can demonstrate at the same time how creative and destructive the human mind can be. The Hindu mythology has a tale of Narasimha’s origin. See the story of Narasimha. You can reach this spot by the main road. The shrine is located at mid way of the main road that connects the Sacred Center to the Royal Center. About 200 meters south of the Krishna Temple (take the road that runs through the arch) you can spot a small canal crossing the road. An unpaved path at the right side (towards west) leads you to the Narasimha statue and the Badavilinga Temple next to it.

It is very close to Badvi linga almost side to side. This is the biggest idol in Hampi at the height of 22 feet. It was carved by a Brahmin during Krishnadevaraya's regime. Invaders broke this idol and the head there is a serpent with its hood open.

The Lakshmi Narasimha statue is located near Virupaksha temple. The statue is huge and magnificent. The hands of the statue is broken ,hence pooja and offerings are not being done. Adjacent to this is the bavanalinga statue which is the linga statue surrounded by the water flowing from Tungabadra. The speciality of this linga is that the third eye is open in this lingam. The priest who is offering pooja here speaks good English and explains wonderfully about the history of this linga deity to the interested visitors.

Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, popularly known as Ugra Narasimha is one of the important ruins to be visited in Hampi. This huge desecrated idol stands open in an enclosure. It is believed that the idol of Lakshmi was sitting on the lap of Narasimha. There is plenty of parking space in the premises and entry is free.

We can only witness beautiful monolithic idols and one of them is Narasimha was destroyed by barbaric bahamanis but its somewhat re structured by ASI. You can verify this from archeology museum located at hampi bazar. And another Shiva linga is beautiful and still pooje is continued since its not destoryed. We don't get see such different shivalinga in many places.

The giant statue of Lord Narasimha sitting in cross-legged Yoga position on the coil of a giant seven-headed Sesha, is one the best reminders of the virtues of Vijayanagara Empire and at the same time, the brutual destruction of the Hampi by the invaders who had no civility to understand the spirituality behind such great piece of art. The original statue included the image of Goddess Lakshmi sitting on the lap of Lord Narasimha. The invaders destroyed image of Goddess Lakshmi except the Goddess's hand which is still visible resting on the shoulder of Lord Narasimha. A poignant reminder of fostering art and spirituality and at the same time callous looting and destruction of spirituality by the invaders.

This is the largest statue of Lakshmi Narasimha in Hampi. The sculpture looks quite marvelous. It is slightly damaged. This temple is adjacent to Badavilinga Temple. If you observe closely, lord Ugra Narasimha is seated on Adisesha and its hand provides canopy. The goddesses Lakshmi`s which was on its lap was damaged and separated during invasions and presently it is in kamalapura museum.
