Cannot gym here during loadshedding. I pay full price but can only gym 30% of the day. This is unacceptable I have not seen any gym without a generator and Virgin active is supposed to be a "high-class" gym. Their parking lot floodlights do not work, promoting an unsafe environment. They do not seem to be at all concerned with fixing it after I have raised multiple complaints about it.

Comment on health and safety: I don't think the gym will pass a health and safety check. Is health and safety checks even done by external and objective authorities? The smaller studio rooms (e.g. the cycling studio) have speakers that are not properly regulated and far above the safety decibels limit as stipulated by health and safety guidelines. It might not become clear now, but a lot of people will struggle with their hearing when they are older due to the unsafe volumes in these classes. Suggestion for gym managers: prescribe a volume limit to instructors that adheres to the decibels limit. Instructors can use a decibels measuring app to ensure they are not damaging the ears of members.

A few weeks back I was enjoying the sauna when my belongings were stolen. There were 4 of us that got our belongings stolen out our locker that evening. I asked if they could investigate, and perhaps view the cctv footage of the cameras outside the bathroom. I was told that it would be impossible to identify the thieves that stole four people's belongings from the bathroom in the space of a hour.... I came in a few days later to follow up on their investigation, no body knew a thing. Staff are rude and arrogant as well. Definitely my worst virgin active experience or gym experience I've ever had. I highly recommend not taking a membership out here.

This is a massive gym. Have worked out here a lot. Started off years ago as Health and racket then changed to Virgin active. There has been a recent revamp and up grade of the gym. So all gym equipment is new and updated. For Discovery members you receive points and Virgin active has their own rewards system too. There is ample parking no need to drive around looking for parking. I would suggest if you are a Virgin Active member to at least do yourself a favor an come work out here someday.

When we happen unhappy (they give you empty promises )with reception because of communication problems,.they star to find various reasons to stop you outside. They also won't be allowed you in to supervise your eight year old son swimming in the pool. Their cleaning staff will be there colse to your feet to clean with loud vacuum cleaner noise when you wait for your son to swim. Deliberately approach you with a loud vacuum cleaner in an attempt to drive away the mother when I was waiting for my son. They bully customers and drive them away when we are happen unhappy with they stuff. They didn't think about what happened to why the customer was so angry.they don't do this to everyone, but this happened to me.

UPDATE: Turns out you get shouted at the entrance for using the buddy pass via the app and get called racist... 3 stars to 1 It's pretty decent. They slowly fixing the broken stuff atleast. Been there for 2 months. Just sometimes the one lady at the front desk doesn't look like she is enjoying her job, other than that pretty okay gym.

Equipment is very old and broken. Very very dissapointed. Coming from my old gym I was expecting more form a virgin active. I was a virgin active member 9 years ago and they had the exact same equipment and it was old back then. Very very outdated and very expensive. Do not recommend at all.

I've been going to this gym for years (since I was a baby getting swimming lessons) and it feels like home! Staff are always helpful and friendly and they offer really great classes as well. Very impressed with staff constantly cleaning the space and keeping things tidy.

Terrible all round service. Joined using credit card ad debit order method and they don't support this. Never contacted usti update and when queried and the gym the most unhelpful people assisted at reception. Struggle to speak didn't answer us, overall sad experience

Tygervalley used to be the best.. the flagship gym! It has progressively got worse over the years. No decent dance classes. Management never encouraged it. Finally a few on a Tues and Thursday evening. Loadshedding happens and they can't give a class that starts at 6.15 tonight. Cancel the class...yet cape gate, canal to name two.. try and work around it. Disgusting Why can't you use whatever for the 15mins.

I would rather join a gym in a active warzone before I think about joining this gym. Don't make the mistake by walking into this place. Even when you just pay R50 to test the gym for a week, afterwards let them know by email that you would not be joining, they would still activate a debit order on your account and trying to get your money back and even canceling this would be month's long battle. And I thought Planet Fitness was sly and shady, Virgin Active just set a new standard

This gym sports great, new equipment, all nicely labeled. Many machines to choose from, including free weights, swimming and more. Highly recommended. I hope the new equipment spreads to the other Virgin Active gyms.

The gym itself is fine, but what happened to the squash courts? It used to be a nice alternative to the other exercise options. It does not make sense to join a squash club as well if you're already paying for a gym membership. *Please* bring back the squash courts

The gym is overall fine. Just that the staff is only clue up with sign people up and NOTHING else. The people offering ab workout in the middle ONLY approach female, my female friend and I tested it number of times.

Very nice facilities. An enjoyable experience, except when it’s load-shedding as there is no generator. The hand sanitizer doesn’t seem to be as prevalent as it was a few months ago which is unfortunate.

What an absolute disaster! We have been waiting for a refund for over 9 months. Should be the best gym but the admin is horrible. Vitality amount messed up and being charged the full amount since the first month. Can’t believe I trusted this gym. What a mess and stress in life on top of everything else. All I want is my money back and have nothing to do with them. Very sad

Well laid out, and large enough. Thr gym is generally clean, and the staff are fine, but a little bit aloof. The members are a very mixed bunch of people - some respectful, some not. The locker room has a bad layout though.

Nice gym. But surely you could up grade your equipment. The stuff is rusting and falling apart. Dumbbells are a disgrace. I assume this gym is receiving all the old hand me downs from the gyms. Padding in the machines is cracking and cushioning gone! No man !!!

When I tell you all reading this review if I could go back to two years ago and convince myself to not join Virgin Active and create a membership I say this with deep regret. This club’s consultants are frauds who breach one’s contract without one’s knowledge whatsoever and have you join under false pretences in specific Joshua Dominick I highly suggest not doing business with this individual he is unprofessional on many levels and I hope that this company lets him go. With all of that being said he has left me with a great amount of debt that should not be my responsibility at all placing all the significant financial burden on myself. If you are ever thinking about joining a Virgin Active in particular this Tygervalley club just do not, I can not assist myself with this predicament, however, if I can warn another that is satisfactory to me. Then notably the customer care and club managers are one’s who are of even less assistance it just shows that they do not value their customers treating them poorly. Thank you for sharing your true colours with me these past two years Virgin Active it is just a pity I gave you the benefit of the doubt often.

The two star rating is not for the gym but for their cleaning employees. Last night 09-10-22, I went to the shower close to the time that the gym had to close. I entered the shower at 19:45, 15 minutes before closing time, one of the cleaning ladies was sitting in the sauna and when she saw me passing her, she gave me a dirty look and started gossiping with her colleague in their mother tongue, by the way they looked at me I could tell they were gossiping. I was in the shower for 3 minutes but when I left the shower she started making remarks and even walked to my locker to come and look at me and talk to her colleague again, she showed frustration that that she had to mop a few droplets of water. I am not one to say “ oh but it’s your job “ but this time I will say it because I pay my membership on time every month, I try to get as dry as possible before leaving the shower to minimise the cleaning ladies work but that is the kind of attitude one gets for simply using a facility that the gym has for its members and it is in fact THEIR JOB to clean up, what’s upsetting is that I was well in my rights to use the shower since the gym was not closed yet. Virgin Active, sort out your cleaning team, their attitude stinks.

I love this gym, the staff is friendly and welcoming, they have the tear drop punch/boxing studio 😁only down side they don't have a generator and no steam room but I'm definitely coming here regularly. Did mention that there's a discovery wellness on site

All the gym equipment you need! A lot of space too. There are also instructions on every machine you decide to use. I still recommend bringing headphones with although the music is alright. There is also a little healthy restaurant with nice food and smoothies or coffee. Over-all had a great experience and yummy food!

The gym is over-full, and equipment is falling apart. Sauna is broken 80% of the time, but the entire shower and locker area is super nasty in any case. And good luck getting an empty lane in the pool as the pool is used for lessons and classes all day.

This gym is really good! I just wish I could make enough time to enjoy all the infrastructure. I like the fact it's cleaned all time, there are diversity of equipment and spaces and the costumers are very polite (if someone find any lost item, they return back to the desk department). It's a friendly and safe place, full of energy and with possibility to have good food as well. Of course we face problems to have free spaces sometimes, but this happens in all good places :) I am very satisfied.

It is time Virgin Active upgrade gym's equipment to morden ones. There's no hack squat machine, pec deck machine etc. Modernise the gym and give value to it please

  • 4/5 Juan L. 2 years ago on Google
Clean bathrooms, lots of cardio equipment, friendly members, spacious, studios to work out in Lacking: friendly staff, aircon sometimes, weight assisted pull up/dip machine & hack squat Music is definitely too loud sometimes Free weights are also old and rusted compared to other gyms but they do go up to 65kg

Good equipment and trainers. The fitness classes are really enjoyable. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant available all over to ensure that equipment is clean
