Coming back to this lake after a year and the improvements are truly impressive. The far end of the lake on the right along with the canal that runs on the other side no longer stinks barring a few specific spots. The storm water drain that they were working on has been finished and all the water was seen happily flowing in it. No more overflowing on this side or stink. Coming to the main entry side, all the landscaping and bench installation work has been complete and the trail is now flat and clean. However, as you proceed ahead you do get some sewage smell coming out of the STP for a while until you cross it. The only thing that actually stands out as a sore thumb for this lake is something that isn't even at the lake. Yes, I'm talking about the approach road and parking. Anyone who's been to this lake knows how narrow and dilapidated it is. I mean there isn't even any road to begin with, so to call it a road would be highly inaccurate. Secondly, it goes through a thickly populated residential area, so if someone's taking out their car from their house, you are forced to wait behind them till everyone gets inside because some portions are so narrow that two vehicles cannot pass at the same time. Now the parking. Houses are constructed upto the very buffer zone of the lake right where the main gate is located. So there's very little space from the last house on the road to the main gate where you can park your two-wheeler so people end up parking right in front of that persons house. If you have a car, then completely forget it. You'd probably have to park it somewhere on the main road and then walk down to the main entry gate.

Kalkere lake is pretty large lake spread across 180 acres, with a 4.5km walking track. The lake is very well maintained, with lots of flowering plants, trees and gardens around the lake. However the water quality is not very great, probably due to the STP that feeds in to the lake. There is also slight smell on one side of the lake. However it is very pleasing to the sight with the plants and large expanse of water and a cool breeze coming over the same. There are a variety of birds as well, Coots, egrets, Grebes, Cormorants, Grey Heron, but what you can see in close quarters is the Black Kite and Brahminy Kite flying close by and fishing in the lake. Great place for a very long walk.

Superb place.... Development fast here

Wanted to explore new lakes around the Hennur area and remembered going to this lake a few years back. It looks very different now. While the place is beautiful and spread out (Check the pictures for size and walking path distance details) there seems to be a sewage line that is flowing to the left of the initial section of the lake leading to a terrible stench however once you move away from there things better. I still think it's a great walking track but given it 3 stars as there is a lot more that can be done. The greenery is just amazing and one can see a lot of birds. Getting to the lake is a bit tricky but follow the map and you will get there without an issue.

The lake is quite pretty and well maintained and the walking path is good. There are many birds and even some water snakes. The trail however does not go all the way round - there is a very small bit at one end which is not joined up with the other side. There is also a strong smell from the storm water drain which one has to put up with for some parts of the trail

Hidden gem. Good place for morning walk and jog. But we have to be lil careful cause it has many bushes so snakes may come from that Apart from this it’s a peaceful place for walk and jog.

Great place to walk and bicycle around 5kms of stretch. Very less crowded, serene and calm place. Can spend your evening or morning walks peacefully, away from traffic and pollution. Can spot a lots of birds around lake. Since sewage is open and very close, it smells really bad at some places.

A nice place for a mornig walk. The development work is executed at s slow pace. Since the last two years, the development work is conducted at a slow pace. At many places, the work is left half done. It gives an impression that the beautification work is used as a milking cow. At some spots sewage water gets contaminated with the lake water . There is a huge scope to make it a place of attraction of clean enviornment is maintained. Lot of birds can be seen in the early morning hours. A interesting place for nature lovers.

One of the biggest lake in Bengaluru with the perimeter over 6.2 kilo meters. Decently maintained by ANZ CSR. Really good for walk/jog with the family. Plants and birds are noticeable.

There are multiple entrance points and do check the approach road so you need not go off-roading :) to reach here. In the mornings they catch some fresh fish and sell it there at the lake. There are some small water outlets and bodies at the one end of the lake. It can be developed much more to draw many more people and in mornings you can see huge number of people who come here to take a walk and the path being so huge you will find them all largely dispersed and spread around

It's done up decently, huge lake but not very shady. But if there's one thing that lingers throughout the visit there, its the dirty smell. It really is quite stinky.

Loved this place. The lake is huge. Watching aunset from one end of the lake is so beautiful. The water reflects the golden hours so well. There is no noise of traffic nearby. Enough space to park bikes, and there is no entry fee. However, when it gets dark, a swarm of mosquitoes comes out and surrounds you. Be sure to get out in time

Beautiful and serene environment. Ideal for a stroll in the evening. A bit concerned about illegal fishing activities in the lake. Also BBMP should improve the conditions of the approaching roads and install more lights and possibly cctv to ensure safety of visitors

Warning that it's going to be a very long walk around the lake, but you'll be treated to a wonderful sight of birds and insects. Glimpses of fishermen doing the rounds is nice to see. Needs more cleaning but looks like work is underway. Good place for a peaceful morning or evening walk.

Lovely and secluded...total walking / running track is 3.5 km around the lake but be warned that they are working on the track so there are large parts of the track that are impacted ( almost unwalkable)

Good to see such a big lake which is being renovated and protected by the govt. A lot of things to be done there. The roads towards the lake need to be constructed properly. The area is slightly disconnected and not friendly for families as of now. But expecting it to be approachable by all soon, may be in an years time

Its a beautiful lake, regularly visited by many migrant birds, its calm and well mainted track.. if you are a runner, you would love it - with a single loop of 4.5kms.. the entry to the lake is not great, but one would enjoy when open to try thier hands do a quick off roading!! An amazing 5 KM walking stretch around the lake , you can imagine the size! Kids will enjoy cycling or walking along parents. many migratory birds which are real big in size. within the concrete jungle this is one place to see the free sky and birds. tones of fishes. every weekend they catch fish and sell it as well. However this is treated waster water and i am not sure of the health issues related to the quality of fish. only negative- there is a stinking , methane emitting drain flowing full fledged on entire one side of it.

A part of the circumference of the lake stinks a bit, due treated sewage water dump. Rest of the place is peaceful and the track is maintained quite well.

The only one big lake lake around Bangalore with 5KM running track . Very beautiful view in the morning at some locations of the lake . The worst part is a big drainage line around the lake due to which very difficult to walk or run inside. May be because of this reason less visitor and not in famous list places. Cycle are not allowed as per the instructions but you can take it inside from the gate by bending handle slightly. Many peoples are riding inside the lake .

With the new make over this place turned out to be a beautiful.....nice lawns and gardens, beutiful view of the nature and birds... You can even do a small picknik over here.

A picture perfect picnic spot. There is a walking track that covers nearly 4.5 km around the lake. One can enjoy the beautiful greens, blues and sunset from the lawn area is soothing eyes. You also get to see a lot of water birds and also snakes, be aware. A treat for Photographers. However stinks bad. A lot flys after 6pm so dont forget to wear your masks on.

Huge walking track

It's under construction. For half of the track, an open sewage runs in parallel resulting in foul smell. Hope that's also in the plan for renovation. Total track length is 5km and while it may become very breathtaking after full development, you can enjoy breathtaking sunrise and sunset views.

A beautiful lake with lots of greenery as many others have said. I so wish the hours could be extended on this lake as well as others in Bengaluru. They make such a difference in the lung space for people in the city. When our family moved to Bangalore I was shocked to learn all the lakes and parks adhere to such strict morning and evening hours. It is not helpful to families who are needing outdoor spaces to be active on a regular bases around school and work. So many people have evening meetings in this city...it would be better if the lake if people could walk later than 9 am, and around 2-3pm around when their kids are released from school. Furthermore along the same lines of family friendliness: the small bit of exercise equipment is wearing out, and it would be lovely to have a children's play area added in. Prams should also be allowed. Overall, a lovely place to walk and commune with nature, even when there is a bit of a foul smell in parts.
