This used to be my favorite place to eat. I was very disappointed to order the awesome steak and shrimp and my food was cold when it was brought to me. Asked to speak with the manager and he only offered to microwave it so it would be warmer. Very disappointed with service and the management was not very helpful to make it right. I do not recommend going here as I am no longer coming here to spend my money. Not worth the food for the amount I paid for.

Mr Yang is THE BEST bartender!!! He makes dining at the bar fun! He’s fast with great technique and a dynamite smile. I come here once a week and it’s always busy for a reason - fresh sushi, tasty food, and creative cocktails made by the awesome bartenders, especially my man Yang!!

First off, if you’re looking for an entertaining and unique culinary experience, your search is over. Kimono provides that and so much more, all at super-reasonable prices. I was blown away by the amount of food they give you! Here are the pros - no cons!👍🏽: • excellent, authentic Japanese food • friendly and fast service (our chef was Elliot and he rocked!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼) • unique presentation (check the photos - blew my mind) • reasonable prices for a ton of food (everyone at my table brought food home) • fun for kids, out of town visitors and especially locals (we saw city council members at the table next to us! • sashimi and sushi were fresh and tasty • tempura was crispy and light. Just perfect. 🍤🍤🍤 • evert was super clean, the grills, tables, staff and even the windows. They really care here, and it shows from beginning to end. TLDR: go here for lunch or dinner. Bring friends and family. They will love the food and the experience. This

Had a reservation for 830pm, walk in at 836pm with the host who booked our reservation that told my husband and I that “we don’t have any chicken left so we can’t seat you”. Completely halted us at the entrance. Very unprofessional and lack of hospitality. No courtesy call if we’re late, it wasn’t clear if the kitchen was closed, it wasn’t clear if we had to abide by a grace period. It was just “we can’t seat YOU” It was a poorly mishandled interaction communicated in a condescending way. It was very clear that her intention was to clear house. This was our first visit unfortunately this was our first impression. Wasn’t welcomed back because of the mishap, didn’t offer to rebook us.. nothing. Didn’t catch the young lady’s name, short blonde with a giddy personality. We just smiled kindly and left. My husband and I are executives, coming to catch dinner after a long Monday… I’ve encouraged to always perform in business, because you never know who you meet. Your reputation is everything, #Looks can be deceiving.

worst service both times, wait, wrong order, served 1 person before all 3 of us...she was done by time we got our orders...offered sake to make up for it then charged us for the sake. Will never return. When they were new & they were crowded, we gave them a break, even thought I thought I would never go back. We did monthes or a year later at least. Still worst service ever! Zero stars. It's too bad because the sashimi was pretty good & they have nice looking decor in there. But does not make up for the lack of service & correctness,

I have been enjoying sushi at Kimono for several years. Yang, the bartender, is attentive and an all around nice guy. The sushi is fresh and the waitstaff is on it! Stop by, say “hi” to Yang and grab the best Sushi and Japanese food Benicia has to offer.

Just now tried to order takeout… usually order the vegetable tempura but I like it with just sweet potato and carrot because I waste all the other veggies. I know it’s strange but usually they do it for me. The man I spoke with today pretty much laughed at me and hung up on me now is refusing to answer the phone I am completely appalled at how unprofessional this place has become…

Love their chicken and shrimp fried rice 🍚 😋! Make sure you get it cooked in front of you, you get more food lol. Don't care for the way they try to crowd customers at 1 cooking table. Can be awkward sitting with other customers when other tables are open.

Happy to check out nearby Kimono Japanese Restaurant for a friends birthday. Lot's of people celebrating so the mood was cheery and place looked busy which was a good sign. We were in the back room at two of the private tables surrounding the grill. We got a fun show as our server Brent prepared our meals right in front of us. Good variety of delicious dishes to choose from. I had grilled scallops, onions & zucchini with chicken fried rice. Sadly I was so hungry I ate it before taking pictures! I will definitely put this on my list for future dining.

Food is still very good, chefs are entertaining and effective, but prices have sky-rocketed since last summer. 40% increase is just unacceptable. I can get the same teppanyaki dinner in Pleasant Hill for $20 less. Makes the drive worth it.

Everytime I come here I am greeted by smiling faces. I come here at least 2 times a week. I'm a big fan of the bar area and it's surroundings. A beautiful fish tank and Samurai armor. I never have a hard time here getting a drink nor food. The bartender Yang always looks out for me and reminds me when the kitchen is about to close. I really enjoy this place.

We love Kinono’s! Claudia is an excellent manager, server & cocktail creator. She made a wonderful Mary Me Sushi & even remembered from the past how much I love Moscow mules. Excellent service, tasty food, very clean & fun. We look forward to our next visit.

Enjoy my meal immensely.. The presentation was beautiful. Plenty food on the plate hot and flavorful ... Great ice cold beer. But make sure you don't forget your wallet. This place is pricey. This place is pricey oh did I say this place was pricey? Oh and by the way, depending on the time you arrive parking was super tight. It's free though lol

I’m only giving this review 2 stars because of the service from the two ladies that were out waitresses. One ladys name started with a M and I never got the other ladies name but I appreciate them. My fiancé and I booked a 530 pm Sunday reservation 3-4 weeks in advance to gather our groomsmen and bridesmaids together. The restaurant called 15min before our reservation informing us that they were behind and will need to push back the seating time to 630. We arrived with some of the party (not all guests came ) and was told we could not be seated because all of our party was not there. I informed Alex who seemed to be the manager that we were told 15min prior to the original time that it needed to be pushed back and we had ppl coming from Sacramento and emeryville area. Basically having to plead to be seated and have water due to the inconvenience of the restaurant. Long story short, our experience seemed to be a first come first serve type of situation even though they were aware of our large party and the time we reserved. There were other large parties present and there were things missing from our entrées such as all the sauces, the ice cream. My sister in law didn’t receive her fried rice, as well as multiple groomsmens orders were incorrect- so we definitely paid extra for the items we did not get or were accurate. I enjoy kimonos and have been coming here for some time but I’m not really happy with the experience we had here. I can tell they were overbooked and instead of turning people away to accommodate the people who already had a reservation, they allowed others to be seated then played catch up with us and a couple who had reservations at 7. Either that or overbooked everyone. Overall it seemed to be unorganized and my bridesmaids were more upset that the manager on duty did not try to accommodate for their inconveniences. We definitely made the most of our experience and chose to have a good time but in the future, we won’t be returning unless we it’s just two of us or to go.

Always delicious and I enjoy the entertainment and excitement that the cooks give. Such a great show during their cooking perfection.

Let’s be clear, you’re paying for the ambience. The food is slightly below average from what I’ve come to expect from Bay Area sushi restaurants. The price is above average, with average service. The inside is quite nice, with a beautiful fish tank, and replica samurai armor. The best thing it has going for it is a full bar.

I have been going to Kimono’s restaurant since day one. I love their high-quality meat and tasty dishes; the staff is always very friendly and welcoming. If you have not tried kimonos, I recommend you to do so today. Their appetizers are great too. 😊❤️🍁🍂

The restaurant food was very good. Your entire family or guests get there own chef which makes everything in front of you. The chef we had was personable and able to get our attention when needed. The food he prepared was good to eat. It’s rather expensive but Japanese style restaurants usually are.

Today we had the worst experience ever! I made the reservation 2 days ago for my daughters birthday, we arrive there at 5:55 PM and we are asked to wait a bit to be seated at 6PM, only to be told by the Manager that we are to share a table with another group!!! That is so ridiculous! To think that you will eat your dinner seated with a group of strangers! How can you enjoy and have a quality dinner time with your family? What is the point of calling for a reservation? I told the Manager that we are willing to wait for a table but he just dismissively told me that they cant do that, because they are packed! He did not even bother to compromise or try to accommodate our request. Very poor customer service you have. We are very disappointed!

We used to visit on occasion before Covid but hadn't been here in a few years. It's a nice place to take young kids for the chef experience. Not sure if Covid changed things but I used to enjoy when the chef would toss food at you so you could try to catch it in your mouth. We didn't get any of that treatment and it I didn't see others tables get it either. It's a shame because the show is what you are paying for. If you are just interested in good steak and seafood and don't care about the show, there are better options for the money. Still, I would visit again if I had guests that hadn't been to a Japanese steakhouse before. The fact that it is 10 minutes from my house is probably another reason I would visit again.

Great place for teppanyaki and other traditional Japanese fare. I highly suggest you call ahead and reserve a table especially if you're planning to go there for dinner as they get packed pretty quickly especially on the weekends. A grill-side seating by the teppanyaki is a must for big parties and first time guests.

Our chef Julian provided one of the best experiences we could ask for! He added his own flare to the usual known tricks which made it feel like a first time experience! Will be back for more of his expertise!

Nice lil Japanese restaurant. The authenticity is pretty good with the Japanese soldier armor all around the place. Sushi was ok. The sashimi was amazing. Fresh cuts with no fish smell or taste.

Its was delicious and a great experience awesome place for a date night. I got the specialty dinner taste of kimono. The bar was fast and the show was nice to see. A little pricy but worth it for a six course meal. Will definitely visit again.

Had the beef julienne lunchboat here - pretty enjoyable with a nice sampler of options, made for a well balanced meal. The only complaint I have is that the service was a tad slow, so if you're planning on a quick lunch here, then that might not be the case. But the food was good, so if there's time to spare, I recommend.
