This hotel taught me to do a bit more research before going ahead with a booking. When I arrived, the first impression wasn't great. There were broken awnings and the placed just overall looked pretty dilapidated. I checked in just fine, but the first room I was assigned was occupied, clearly by someone who hadn't just checked in. I opened the door half way and saw that the room was absolutely trashed. I just left and went back to the lobby for another room. The second room was...okay. It didn't smell like smoke which was great, but there was a powerful lingering smell of what seemed like 37 different chemicals in the air and if wasn't going away. I almost requested a different room, again, but didn't want to be a burden. The room it self was okay. Clean, mostly, save some weird reddish splotches on the walls in the bathroom, brown splotches on the ceiling, and a chair that wouldn't stay upright no matter what I tried. The shower pulsed from warm to cold, but it worked. The best part about the room was the air conditioning and the bed. Very comfortable night's sleep overall, but all of the many other issues made it so that I wouldn't stay here or recommend it.

Do not stay here. We had a one night stay. We arrived at ~10:30pm and they gave us keys to a room with two full size beds (with stains on the bed covers) instead of a deluxe king, which is what I had reserved. I went back to the front desk, they gave me keys to another room with a king size bed. One thing to note is that this red roof is in an L shaped building, and on the far end there are several "permanent" residents. Our deluxe king room happened to be on that side of the establishment, and it was extremely sketchy. Garbage everywhere, many people sitting/standing outside of their rooms in the middle of the night, or with their room doors wide open (the rooms were filled to the brim). Everyone was watching every move we made to and from the car. It felt very unsafe, and I personally don't want to know what exactly people are doing up and about the motel during the night. I would not be surprised to find out that there are some illegal drugs being sold in this establishment if the police were to conduct a raid. The room was also filthy, as was the hallway: dirty shoe prints in the room and bathroom floors, black mold in the bathroom, dead flies and dirt on the floors, sticky surfaces and damp mattress. I paid $140 for one night. This should be a $40 a night motel. And I will never stay here again, even if they gave me a free stay. This place should be bought out and completely rebuilt. Truly the worst motel I have ever stayed at (the only reason we didn't leave is because it was late at night and we were traveling with a dog - we got out of there first thing the next day).

First up, the people who work here are wonderful. They are trying to do the best they can with what they have. They get 5 stars in my opinion. However, this place needs some work. We did not stay here and got our money back. We also found that Michigan hotel rates are too expensive for what they have. If you can leave Michigan for another state, I would do that. I would really like to see the Red Roof Inn improve the hotel because the people who work there are really great.

This place is a total dump outside but the room was surprisingly nice for the price. There's a microwave and a mini fridge, the shower was good, the desk is nice and the AC works great. The lamps are modern and have plugs which is always great. The front desk people were also nice and made it easy to add an extra night to my stay without switching rooms. However there is a lot of middle of the night yelling and banging on doors and whatnot so I would not stay here for a work trip where you're going to bed and getting up early unless you are a very deep sleeper. Also of note, I was not aware that the tap water here may not safe to drink due to high lead levels (my partner informed me when I told him what city I was staying in). That is something the staff should alert visitors too, and provide an alternative - there is a vending machine but it was empty of bottled water. They also put out plastic cups in the room, which seems like you might drink out of them.... Maybe a note and a couple of bottles of water in each room upon check in? Or if we are outside the area that is unsafe then it would be good to know but when I asked at the front desk they didn't really know what to tell me so I just bought a gallon from Aldi down the street.

Staff were super friendly and generally great people. Sheets were clean and not a bug to be seen in our room. But I'm not sure anyone cleans the rooms between visits other than a sheet change. Items found under beds from previous visitors. Poorly patched holes where it appears someone punched a hole into walls/door. Floors are filthy and had a smoke smell. Terrible for asthma or allergies. Pillows are thinner than the sheets they are covered in. Seriously bring your own pillow. Otherwise it was one of the queiter hotels we've ever slept in.

Our nightmare started when we arrived there at about 2 am. We got keys to the first room offered to us. Opened the door and heard the fire alarm chirping. Obviously needed a new battery. Front desk gave us keys to another room. Brought our belongings in and tried to operate the HVAC unit. It was inoperable! Too hot and muggy to be without a/c STRIKE TWO! Got keys to a THIRD room. My wife went to check it out-came back and told me there was no HVAC unit in the room! I couldn't believe it, so I had to go see for myself. Opened the door and turned on the lights - roaches scattered from the open hole where the HVAC should be! STRIKE THREE! Front desk refunded our money with no hesitation, and we drove on to our destination. Staff was friendly and helpful, but don't even THINK about staying in these rooms!

DO NOT STAY HERE. From the moment I arrived and was looking for the lobby, I felt unsafe. When I went to my room, I could barely stand to be in the space - there was a very strong and terrible odor (combination of smoke, must / mildew and just bad things). The walls were dirty, the desk chair was broken, the bathroom was dirty. I booked this as a place to let my dog stay with me while I looked at wedding venues in the area, and I didn't feel safe leaving him in the room. I checked out after spending no more than 5 minutes in the room, the front desk didn't ask me why I was checking out and did not offer a refund despite commenting on how I had just checked in.

I am so sorry to leave this comment. But you really need to be better. When I arrived I got a room at the first floor. When I got into my room. It was so stinky (Smoke smell). So I went back the front desk. They were giving me the second floor. I went there to check my room first. Before I and my friends get all belongings into the room. So the room was unclean floor. They were only making bed. I went back to the front desk again and asking for another room. So the front desk real nice. They were giving me the first floor room. But the room still stinky smoking smell. So I am so tried to be asking them to changed our room. I decided to ask them fir air fresher and clean all in room by ourself. We were just stay only one night. We also found a bottle in our room. The maneger or supervisor need to be checking on your house keeping. I always stay with Red Roof Inn. Because I travel with my dog. But this Red Roof is the worse Red Roof location I have ever been to. Also check all equipment in your room. My toilet in room 129 kind of wobble. The light at the sink not working. Also we have only one blanket in our 2 beds in room. It was too late to asking them again. So we just handle with what we have in room. Anyway I hope my comment will get any reflection for you to be better. I love your guy just make it better. Thank you P.S. the front desk are nice

Skip this entire town. The entire area including this hotel is extremely sketchy. I was trying to check in and didn’t even make it any further than the check in area. I had two guys scoping me out when I was riding my motorcycle around the parking lot looking for the office first off. By time I parked and walked out the office one guy was sitting on a curb and the other guy was literally feet away from my bike. I’m not gonna say what happened. The lady at the front desk seemed nice although I was only 30-35 minutes early for check in and she stated “the room needs to be fully cleaned and ready for you so I cannot have you check in”. Nice gesture, although from all the reviews I doubt the rooms would be up to par for anyone. I’m kinda glad that action took place so I could make a sensible decision. The Benton harbor and st. Joseph area need to be quarantined.

What a disgusting pit! We'd never have stayed here had we not made the reservation from hundreds of miles away. First given a room that smelled like a cigar convention. Then settled for a less smelly one, although the toilet tank lacked a lid and the floor was filthy. Woke up the following morning itching all over. Saw a doctor when we arrived at our destination and was diagnosed with scabies--the result, the doctor said, of sleeping on unwashed sheets. Medical bills totaled $246. Red Roof mgmt. claims not to own the motel, says we must deal with franchisee. Franchisee says "we do not pay no medical bills." Have complained to Western Michigan BBB, to no effect. This place should be closed down.

If I could give this hotel a zero or negative I would. I have been trying for weeks to get them to approve a refund for two night swe did NOT stay there and they keep refusing. We checked in and then automatically checked out within minutes later b/c of the following: Really sketchy neighborhood first off..... Second, walking to our room there were multiple trash bags sitting out at 10:30pm just oozing with waste. Literally had to step over piles of wet trash. Third, multiple piles of dirty towels sitting on the sidewalks on our walk to the room. Fourth, the room smelled of cigarette smoke like someone has been smoking a pack a day even though the sign at check-in says 100% smoke free. Fifth, the room was not clean! And every time we try to call the manager to get a refund since we did NOT stay there she is conveniently never there. I am extremely dissatisfied with this experience and will be calling corporate (if there even is one). Do NOT stay here.

They claim to have free wifi yet the rooms furthest away from the office can't connect to the internet very well whatsoever. The first room I was sent to had the door wide open, blankets everywhere, and what looked like rose petals all over the floor. The next room I was given didn't have the actual coffee pot in the coffee maker, there was a used wash cloth on the rod the shower curtain hangs from, and I had to go back to the office for the 3rd trip to get a remote for the TV. I tried calling out to check the balance on my debit card which requires I dial a 1 888 number and upon doing so accidentally called 911 because in order to risk out you have to dial 9 then 1. I ended dialing 911 because of that not realizing I had done so until the cops were knocking at my door.

This place is completely filthy and disgusting. Dirty floors. The room smelled like sewage. The beds were broken. This place should be illegal and shut down.

Very dirty, floor was wet when we arrived. Spiderwebs on the ceiling. Lots of handles on appliances are falling off, bed was uncomfortable they only had sheets on the bed, wanted to ask the front desk for blankets but multiple people were just hanging out in the lobby during the night. A lot of activity around the hotel at night, felt unsafe staying in the room.

⚠️ Alert ⚠️ Alert ⚠️ Once we got there we asked to see the room and were shocked to see bugs in every drawer. We read the reviews, not sure who wrote them but I never dreamed there would be so many bugs. Of course we were still charged over a 1000.00. I just think it's wrong because it was such an inconvenience to me and my family to have to look for another hotel on a holiday weekend. Not worthy of even one star.

It's hard to place Red roof Inn within a category. It's not a motel but it doesn't have quality of a hotel either. I have never had a great experience with Red roof Inn but sometimes still gets stuck staying at one because of their affordability factor. The two stars that I'm giving this hotel is mainly because of their location which is around an area with a lot of amenities in terms of good places to eat, shop as well as grocery stores nearby. Having said that, there are other better hotel options if you can avoid this one.

Finally got to meet the manager - nice enough but this motel is never going to be the way that she may envision unless it is torn down or completely & costly renovated. Two (2) things that she said during our conversation was 1. She wanted to get rid of the tubs & convert to all showers. 2. She wants & expects to make money during the summer. The tubs are a problem because the housekeeping personnel have not been thoroughly cleaning them & why in the world anyone would put adhesive mats in a tub is beyond me because once they start peeling, soap scumb and nothing but germs are under them. As far as the money goes, this motel should be priced at $ 29.99 no higher than $ 39.00 dollars - certainly not $ 59 nor $ 100 or $ 119.00 per night. It is an old property, pipes are bad especially when one has to run the water in the tub in order to get hot water in the sink. Looking at the property one can tell that the people that stay there do not care. I was told by several maids (not at this property) that they were given only so much time per room for cleaning but the people that works here obviously do not take any type of pride in their work.

Despite the front desk and housekeeping staff being very polite, this motel is a complete mess. The front staff seem to be entirely overwhelmed and the night I arrived were unaware what rooms had already been checked out. I and multiple other guests were given keys to occupied or unprepared rooms, and then told to return later as they had to physically check to see if there was someone in the room or find someone to clean them. I arrived at about 6:00 p.m. with a reservation, but didn't get checked into a clean room until after 9:00 p.m. If I had not made a reservation through a third party with a non-refundable policy, I would have just left. The room I was eventually given was clean, but had multiple broken light fixtures, scraped walls, damaged ceilings, burn spots in the flooring and furniture, a broken toilet seat, stained linens and a shower that did not work adequately. At almost $100, this room was a complete rip-off as well. The entire outside structure of the buildings are in extremely poor repair (welders were actually on site working) as there are gigantic patches of rust and damage underneath the walkway railings of nearly the entire property. Numerous people were loitering about that may or may not have been guests, and there were people yelling and making tons of noise coming and going well into the early morning hours. I didn't feel unsafe, but I would never stay here with a family member or a child. In summary, I travel for work and stay in motels almost constantly and would rather sleep in my vehicle than attempt to book a room in this hotel again. An exceptionally poor example of a Red Roof Inn.

Edit: We ended up buying our own plunger because it was clear no one was interested in helping us. Also the wifi here goes down a lot to the point where they might as well not offer wifi. Don't bother calling the desk. They won't help. Original 06/13/22 If your toilet is clogged, you're better off buying your own plunger. They're giving my boyfriend the run around. Telling him to go find "Vern" with no description of what he looks. We shouldn't have to track down a maintenance man to get our toilet unclogged. Hell, I used to be the front desk supervisor at Travelodge which is considerably much worse than here and we never made the guests track down maintenance to get their toilet unclogged. We got them a plunger like they asked.

The room was stuffy smelled horrible musty! Floors where awful they where wood too fairly easy to clean I would think! Air/Heat didn't work. Didn't discover that until 11:30 at night. Well who wants to move in the middle of the night? Then husband went to shower and there was a nasty washcloth hanging over the shower bar. Where in front of the bathroom door it looks like there is dry puke 🤮🤢

  • 2/5 Belinda C. 1 year ago on Google
The premises had trash all around the walkway to the stairs case. it smelled like urine there was a pair of mens boots sitting there. we were approached by a strange man in the parking lot which made it very scary. The bathroom was absolutely filthy. It had a dirty towel hanging behind the door. On a good note the staff was very friendly and helpful but I definitely would not recommend anyone staying there .

What incredible people at this hotel. The two women that man the front desk we're so incredible when I was making my reservation and even more incredible in person. They totally made this hotel. They put us in one of the upgraded rooms and it was awesome for the price. The pillows are a bit squishy so you'll definitely need two at a time but it was in a great location. The outside of the hotel definitely needs some work. I have to say that. But it was clean and very comfortable. We had a newer bed. The managers of this place should be very proud of the people that they have hired.

Shower pressure was great! Sheets seemed clean. Dog friendly. A/C, Refrigerator, and freezer were cold. Very small room, pretty weird vibe. Doors were all very dirty but worked fine. Most rooms had curtains that didn't close all the way, so you can kind of see through them. Multiple people had their keys disabled after the first day, and so did I. Had to go to lobby to get it working. Had a payment issue, but it got resolved quick and easily.

If I could offer zero I would. If you don't care where you stay this is the place for you. Very very dirty, smelt horrible, I felt like I should have thrown hand sanitizer all over myself from just walking in and out. The pictures do no justice of how horrible. No I did not stay, walked in ND out.

I'm from the Saginaw/Bay area and the first room I got had ceral behind the bed, the sheets where stained and had looked like nothing was sanitized but apparently that was there BEST room and was cleaned by the BEST housekeeper they have. ALSO, thoes who live here at the Inn are VERY INCONSIDERATE. Talking loud, slaming doors and blasting the radio at 5:30 in the morning. Ill never stay here again.

I have many points to make, but I will make this short. The moment I arrived the smell of smoke hit my nose and I had a 100% smoke free room, before I got my stuff down and settled, i had to sanitize and freshen everything up. I decided to take a shower , but the moment I walked in. I saw that disgustingly shower🤢 I had to shower with SHOES ON, due to the dirtiness and I COULD NOT stand the awfulness. As I was showering, I look up and see a cockroach on the ceiling walking, and as soon as I see that I immediately get out as fast as possible! I don’t recommend for anyone to come here with family, you wouldn’t feel comfortable with the atmosphere and people around. I ended up leaving and only stayed for about an hour. I went home.

  • 4/5 Issi V. 2 years ago on Google
Better then expected. The hotel looks kind of scary but the rooms are not bad. Just ensure you lock your room from inside cause front desk might reassign your room to someone else. In our case, someone opened the room with a key at 2am, and freaked us out. Good that I had it locked from inside.
