Hidden behind the north side of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore: turning right and right again exiting from the side opposite to Piazza Vecchia, it houses a beautiful painting by Tiepolo (at the bottom right). It is estimated to be from the 16th century, now renovated (especially on the outside). With oval dome dating back to 1911; the church is built mainly in Credaro stone. Commissioned by the then Lupo Duke of Bergamo, dedicating it to his daughter and using it to collect his own bones. A portrait of Lupo is at the bottom left, opposite that of Tiepolo.

Small church that you have to look for because it is in a hidden position. The entrance is "guarded" by two large statues of angels. The elliptical dome and the canvas by G.B.TIEPOLO depicting St. Joseph are beautiful.

The church of the Santissimo Salvatore or San Salvatore or better yet the church of the desperate or of the desperate cases is located on the hill of the same name in the upper part of the city of Bergamo, in front of the headquarters of the Misericordia Maggiore which houses the Donizetti Museum, in the shadow of the basilica of Santa Mary Major. Outside the church, you are greeted by the two large statues of angels by Giuseppe Siccardi from 1928, which precede the iron gate and the 12 steps leading to the entrance[8]. The portal has a Zandobbio marble architrave with floral motifs from the 4th century, it is the oldest part of the church. The interior has a single nave with walls painted in damask. The most valuable work is Saint Joseph with Child placed on the right altar, the work of Giambattista Tiepolo, executed while the artist was working in the Colleoni chapel. The painting was mistakenly considered the work of Giovanni Raggi who, a pupil of the Venetian, had made an identical copy.

Another hidden treasure in the CittΓ  Alta of Bergamo. This church is very small, but it has a wonderful peaceful energy. In addition to its historical importance, it is also highly sought after by art lovers due to the work of Tiepolo (SΓ£o JosΓ© with the baby). Its dome is also very interesting, as it is made up of layers that allow light to enter. I found it by chance while walking through the small streets around it, and I recommend a visit.

Lovely little church, very secluded. It preserves a work by Tiepolo depicting Saint Joseph with the Child. It is also popularly called "Madonna of the Desperate" perhaps in reference to the votes that students once paid to it

A little hidden treasure. Twenty years ago it was worth discovering it... and even today it manages to amaze me with its simplicity and serenity.

We enjoyed visiting this small church. It was a discovery since the entrance is in a small street.
