The
church
of
the
Santissimo
Salvatore
or
San
Salvatore
or
better
yet
the
church
of
the
desperate
or
of
the
desperate
cases
is
located
on
the
hill
of
the
same
name
in
the
upper
part
of
the
city
of
Bergamo,
in
front
of
the
headquarters
of
the
Misericordia
Maggiore
which
houses
the
Donizetti
Museum,
in
the
shadow
of
the
basilica
of
Santa
Mary
Major.
Outside
the
church,
you
are
greeted
by
the
two
large
statues
of
angels
by
Giuseppe
Siccardi
from
1928,
which
precede
the
iron
gate
and
the
12
steps
leading
to
the
entrance[8].
The
portal
has
a
Zandobbio
marble
architrave
with
floral
motifs
from
the
4th
century,
it
is
the
oldest
part
of
the
church.
The
interior
has
a
single
nave
with
walls
painted
in
damask.
The
most
valuable
work
is
Saint
Joseph
with
Child
placed
on
the
right
altar,
the
work
of
Giambattista
Tiepolo,
executed
while
the
artist
was
working
in
the
Colleoni
chapel.
The
painting
was
mistakenly
considered
the
work
of
Giovanni
Raggi
who,
a
pupil
of
the
Venetian,
had
made
an
identical
copy.
