Ludvig Holberg is considered the father of both Danish and Norwegian literature. He was simultaneously a writer, essayist, philosopher, historian and dramatist; today he is best known for his comedies written for the Lille Grønnegade theater in Copenhagen, but his work on natural and human laws was also part of the curriculum of Danish legal education until 1936. The statue was created by John Börjeson in 1884.

Ludvig Holberg was a poet and lived from 1684 to 1754. The monument is centrally located at the harbor or fish market. The condition is good, but the overall area of the monument is not particularly interesting. It's nice that statues like this exist.

Playwright of the first half of the 18th century considered the father of Norwegian literature, who I personally had not heard of until seeing his sculpture in one of the busiest parts of the city of Bergen. The statue is located in a square in front of the famous Bergen fish market, which makes it a good meeting place. It rises on a pedestal surrounded at ground level by a medium-height, square-shaped metal fence that separates it from the public about two meters. This overprotection is curious unless it is intended for aesthetic purposes. The sculpture itself is something simple. A static figure, standing, looking straight ahead and without any characteristic feature that would at least make you think that it is a writer. The appearance is somewhat rough and lacks definition. The location and the landscape that surrounds it with the pier in the background is better than the sculpture itself.

Ludvig Holberg, the Baron of Holberg. During his lifetime (1684 – 1754), this native son was an influential writer of essays, novels, and historical nonfiction, as well as the playwright of more than 30 comedies. He is considered the father of Danish and Norwegian literature. This bronze tribute to Holberg was sculpted by John Börjeson in 1884.

Holberg was characterized by humanism, the Enlightenment, classicism and the Baroque. He was a philosopher and historian, but it is his fiction writing that stands out most in posterity. He wrote satires, including the parody of the ancient and Renaissance heroic epic, Peder Paars, a utopian novel in Nils Klim's underground journey that made him famous. He was best known for his 36 comedies in one, three or five acts. He mainly wrote comedies of character, but also comedies of intrigue and comedies of manners. The most famous are Jeppe paa bierget, Politiske Kandstøber, Den Stundesløse and Erasmus Montanus. Holberg has also had a great influence as an essayist, particularly with Moral Thoughts (1744), but also with the old-age work Epistler (1748–54). A number of his works have already been translated into several European languages. Holberg was characterized by humanism, the Enlightenment, classicism and the Baroque. It is said to be a statue of a great Norwegian writer. It's a pity that there is a lack of detailed explanation. It's in a really good location.

The Ludvig Holberg Statue in Bergen is a significant monument honoring the Norwegian-Danish writer Ludvig Holberg. The statue was unveiled in 1884 by the Danish government as a gift to the city of Bergen and shows Holberg in a dignified pose with a book in his hand. Torgallmenningen Square, where the statue is located, is a popular meeting point and event location in downtown Bergen. The area surrounding the statue is lively and offers a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. The Ludvig Holberg statue is not only a cultural monument, but also a popular place for public events and gatherings. The square has an atmosphere steeped in history and attracts visitors who want to reflect on the importance of literature, education and culture. The statue also offers great photo opportunities and serves as a backdrop for souvenir photos. A visit to the Ludvig Holberg Statue allows visitors to appreciate the historical importance of Ludvig Holberg as a writer and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the surrounding area.
