We swore to Karl Liebknecht that we would shake hands with Rosa Luxemburg. You should plan at least an hour for the visit, or two if you want to see the Revolutionary Monument at the back of the cemetery. Next to the gatehouse there is a cemetery map that I recommend.

The graves of the socialists. An exciting cemetery with a lot of history. Many people don't know that Liebknecht and Luxemburg are not buried in the toboggan at the entrance. The actual gravesite is in the rear area of the cemetery near the Revolutionary Monument. The graves were leveled and re-occupied by the fascists in 1941. The graves in the roundel are symbolic graves. Walter Ulbricht, Wilhelm Pieck and Otto Grotewohl are the only real graves in the roundabout. Everything that had rank, function or name in the GDR is located in the curtain wall and in the adjacent Pergolenweg. Today, famous people who were buried there can still be buried in the Pergolenweg. There are no new graves. Erich Mielke was buried anonymously near Pergolenweg.

The Socialist Memorial is a large, well-designed complex that you can definitely visit for historical reasons. The central cemetery next to it is a park-like cemetery that has many surprises! You should take your time and take a long walk here!! πŸ‘πŸ”βœ”οΈ

A large park cemetery with history. Recommended for those interested in the history of the workers', socialist and social democratic movements of Germany.

Really interesting cemetery that's actually like a park (and people do use it as one) full of history of Germany in the early 20th century...

historical and exciting! At first it was a pauper's cemetery, then the early communists were buried there - there was probably a lot of hype about it. Until it was over with the Nazis, who of course flattened the whole thing. The GDR revived it as a memorial. If you're in the area, you should take a detour, it got me thinking... how we Germans have done politics over the last two centuries can be seen in one place, like in a test tube

G Historically significant - even if you're not a socialist. A visit is definitely worth it for anyone interested. But for me it is the most desolate and hopeless cemetery I know: without any Christian symbol. Anyone who denies God's existence has no hope! .

Beautiful memorial! You can take a nice walk here and also discover exciting graves in the cemetery. The memorial for the 1918/1919 revolution at the other end of the cemetery is also worth seeing. Nice to see that everything is taken care of so well :)

Unfortunately I have to say that walking dogs in a cemetery is a no go!! Otherwise it's unfortunately not that well maintained. It's a shame

Like a history book to go through. But you only see what you know or google. Thinkers, perpetrators, victims, idealists and traitors lie peacefully next to each other...
