Artificial, rehearsed. The guide was utterly boring, self centred and rehearsed. Also a bit discriminate. I walked out 15 mins in the tour cause I felt offended.

Really lovely tour guide Peter, great knowledge of historical and current affairs in the city - he could answer every question we asked, related to the tour or not. Tour always well paced too. Super interesting points of interest that we definitely wouldn’t have known anything about if we walked around alone. Really recommend, such an informative and worthy tour.

Our guide Jim was amazing! He went to school for German history and has been living in Germany for 17 years (originally from the US). He shared so much knowledge about everything we saw and was super friendly. Would give him 6 stars if I could!

I'm giving these tours a 2 star because it covers a lot of ground and has interesting topics. However, I was extremely disappointed in our tour guide on the English tour. A few times he managed to make some pretty sexist and borderline racial remarks. Firstly, after discussing a few historical events he paused to point out that though white men have predominantly been responsible for most of the problems in the world, 'it's simply not true'. I commented that 'it mostly is though, especially in the regions we were discussing'. The examples he used to defend his point? A female concentration camp sun by female guards during WW2. UMMMMMM SERIOUSLY DUDE?! When I pointed out that they were acting at the behest of a, ahem, white man, he then brought up pre-industrial Revolution Native American tribalism and asked me to explain 'tribes scalping each other'. Again, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Later in the tour he mentioned how Germany has always been a bit more equal with gender roles (during the manhole conversation). Not only did he make the comment 'well men are naturally stronger and larger than women, just look around', but he hen overheard me explaining to my mother that though Germany might be domestically gender equal, they're still very much so unequal professionally. I made the comment that there are more CEOs named Thomas than there are female CEOs in Germany (a recent study came out) to which he said 'well that's because when women hit 30 they decide they don't want to work as hard as men do and thus don't want to be CEOs as that requires so many long hours'. 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 I was legit dumbfounded by so many of his comments which I think were completely unnecessary for the tour. Had I not been with my mother I would have left the tour and asked for my money back.

The Potsdam tour was 100x more than I expected. Johnny, our guide, was fun to talk with, knew trivia and important stuff we saw on the tour, and gave insights into history on both sides of the Berlin Wall. A fellow patron asked a question about history, and Johnny produced a binder filled with maps, photos, and other info. The maps showed how the country evolved, starting with the 1200s (I could have the date wrong. Impressive nevertheless.) The tour was a great way to spend a warm fall day. Sans Souci was beautiful, though at this time of year some statues are were covered with boxes that resemble guard huts. Others were surprisingly buff. My interest was spending time outside of Berlin while my resident daughter was at work. I was pleasantly surprised to learn so much on this very informative stroll and enjoy the day with a small group led by Johnny.

A wonderful experience!! Definitely recommend taking this walking tour. We hit all the high spots and had insightful discussions and background given. Our tour guide Jasper was knowledgeable, kind and did a wonderful job of guiding us around his hometown of Berlin. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a inclusive and beautiful walking tour.

Maria was our tour guide and she was just amazing! She was so friendly and managed to feel everyone in the tour included and comfortable so that no one feels left out. I must have asked so many questions but she always answered with the same enthusiasm :) It was my first time in Berlin and my first walking tour so I had so much fun not only just visiting the beautiful famous monuments but also learning about the history of Berlin and Germany. I highly recommend anyone visiting Berlin to book a walking tour and from Insider Tour! I myself plan to book another tour the next time I come to Berlin again! 。◕‿◕。

I have just done the Cold War Tour lead by Nikolai. A very very comprehensive tour covering all areas of the effects of the division of Berlin. Society on both sides of the wall, various designs of the Berlin Wall and organisation such as the Stasi. Nikolai has an interesting perspective on life of that period being Bulgarian by birth, raised and educated in America, and now working in Berlin for the past 14 years. I highly recommend this tour.

Rob was a great guide with a wealth of history knowledge that he stitched into an informative narrative. As often the case in history, several events preceed which result in the cataclysmic event. Rob did a wonderful job of sharing those insights with the group. 10 of 10

Had a great tour with our guide from Texas, Brian on the Famous Walks tour. He was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions that we fired at him. Had a good way of telling some quite harrowing stories on the tour. He also had some very entertaining stories too! Would thoroughly recommend this tour company.

I've had two tour guides (June, 2017 and several years ago) in English, in which I was amazed by one of the tour guides (who had a master's degree in Germany history) and another one, who was well educated. Both were incredibly attentive in their listening to questions and provided historically accurate and professional responses with emphatic concerns of the Jewish people and the current issues of today. Simply awesome.

This tour was awesome! Because we only had one weekend in Berlin, it was a great way to pack a lot of history and sightseeing into about 4 hours! Our tour guide, Xavier, was a funny historian who made the tour very engaging. He also catered to our experience in Germany and really made the walking tour more enjoyable. Xavier was very knowledgeable about the places we visited, and even gave little fun facts during the walking portions of the tour. Highly recommend taking this tour if your wanting good highlights of Berlin, also we were able to get some good recommendations from a reliable source about where to spend the rest of our time in the city!

Not what we expected. First of all, our tourguide wasn't a local/insider, just a guy who moved to Berlin some what years ago. We usually follow these tours to hear insights/opinions from a local, if we just want to hear years and facts we can also use google. Secondly, our guide had a poor understanding of where we should stand during his long, long speeches. We had to move several times because he was standing in the middle of an alley , we couldn't understand him when he was standing next to a fountain, and when we were standing close to highlights, we were always positioned in a way in which it was impossible to take nice pictures (something we didn't have time for either). We always stopped at boring places where there was nothing to see to listen to his stories. All in all, these were 4 hours not well spent in Berlin.

This walking tour started at 10:30am and lasted about 4 hours covering about 6.5km. Wear good footwear, sidewalk stones can be slippery when wet. The land is flat so no worries about climbing hills. There is a coffee & rest break about half way through. The guide, Barnaby, was from London. He is very well spoken and knowledgeable in the history and politics of Berlin’s past and present. He is very personable with a dash of humour and easy to keep track of in a crowd, given his significant stature. He even recommended a great area to have dinner in, a rather hip neighbourhood away from the tourist beat. It was delicious. Highly recommend this type of tour over that of a tour bus with the pre-recorded English headsets. We did one in Hamburg and it wasn’t worth the $.

We had an amazing, very meaningful and informative tour with Eran during the Holocaust Remembrance Day. He is really knowledgeable about the facts (and the dates especially) that it almost felt like he lived in the past! He explained every detail clearly and engagingly. He also gave us some food/restaurant recommendations and they were truly good! We highly recommend this tour and, of course, Eran!

Great Third Reich/Cold War tour with Anika. Happy to have walked away learning a few surprising tidbits of history, but more importantly, new perspectives. She effortlessly weaved history from the past with its impact on the present. And as a Berliner herself, how that has affected her personal outlook on life. Informative and efficient tour.

My husband and I did three tours. Day One we did a tour with Paul about the Cold War. He was very knowledgeable about what had happened in detail about East & West Berlin and how the Cold War took place. Day Two we did the Third Reich Berlin tour with J.R. He was also very knowledgeable and walked a lot. Gave us a German perspective about the Second World War. Day Three we got Paul again! We did the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Bus Tour. It was a very memorable and emotional tour. To experience it in the winter with snow was emotional. A lot to learn from. Paul was very informative and passionate throughout the tour. We would definitely be booking through Insider Tour again in the near future. Thank you for a wonderful, educational, and memorable experience!

Well organized tour covering WWII & Cold War history via important historical landmarks, memorials, and buildings in Berlin’s downtown district. Our tour guide Nikolai was awesome, super friendly and knowledgable. He provided both historical and artistic background to all of the sites, and was a great storyteller. He also gave time to explore the memorials while giving a sense of how best to experience them/reflect on their meaning. Recommend!

I experienced the Sechsanhausen Concentration Camp trip with my son. First of all, the guides are really easy to spot with their bright yellow umbrellas in the square in front of the train station. Our guide, Georgia was really friendly and remembered all our names at once! We were a group of nine. Georgia gave us a detailed introduction to the timeline we were going to be experiencing before we got on the first train to the camp. The journey is two trains and then a 10/15 minute walk to the camp. The tour itself is incredible. Georgia's wealth of knowledge was invaluable. She is so passionate about her subject too, which really adds to the tour. On the journey back, the first train was not running so we had to get a rail replacement bus. Georgia was completely unflappable and negotiated the bus and then two subsequent trains back to our starting point with a calm efficiency. Fantastic tour with fantastic guide. Book this tour, you won't regret it!

Highly recommend this tour CAMPBELL our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The place itself was harrowing and emotionally challenging, but it is history that we absolutely need to remember. Campbell was sensitive and honest with the facts and I would highly recommend him. Campbell looked after us throughout the day, especially coping with the challenges for public transport as some of the trains were not running due to a transport strike. You’ve inspired me to learn more about this period of time. Thank you 🙏🏼

The Potsdam Walking Tour was a fantastic walking tour led by a very knowledgeable guide, Jim. Jim is a historian specializing in German history and did an excellent job of explaining the significance of the area, the Hohenzollern family that created such a cultural paradise, and how the Cold War and Soviets impacted this utopia located just outside of the former West Berlin in the former DDR (East Germany). The sights themselves are breathtaking, but having such a knowledgeable guide put this tour in the upper echelon of tours. I left not only getting to see the great city and area, but really learned fascinating facts. I would highly recommend Jim as a guide and this tour in general. It is a great introduction to the area and a must do when coming to Berlin.

Our tour guide Paul was great! He has such a great and caring personality. It was a rainy day for us but he went out of his way to bring extra umbrellas and on top of it, purchased a few more for those that didn’t bring one. We did more than one tour while in Berlin, both with a different focus. The Third Reich tour was brilliant and gave a different perspective to the overall highlights tour we also took. Definitely recommend this tour, thanks Jim for doing such a great job!

This tour (Explore Berlin) gave an introduction of a few attractions in Berlin, which is a good start to encourage one to explore in depth. We went to Charlie's checkpoint, which had an aerial map of where the Berlin Wall was situated and our tour guide pointed out what we had visited. To my surprise, what we had explored was a very very small area. Bare in mind, the route of the tour stayed within the East of Berlin. For this tour, we had Jonathan guiding us and he is a great tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and passionate of the history. He was very engaging and was happy to take general questions or have one-on-one conversations. Although he shared a lot of information of the history, I am very intrigued that I would like to research the histories further. Thank you for this experience.

Loved my day tour of Potsdam with Insider Tour Berlin. Our guide Gregor was very friendly, knowledgeable and an insightful individual. He was approachable to the whole group and candid which made the day fun and lighthearted. He has great organisational and forward-thinking skills which made catching the public transport (mix of trains and local buses) to/from Potsdam and Berlin centre pretty seamless and easy to navigate. He has so many stories to tell about German history and the current state of affairs if you care to listen and learn more. Thanks for a great day tour!

I took two tours over two days. Anita took the first tour, the third Reich tour. She was extremely informative, friendly and insightful! Our second tour was to Sachsenhausen with Chris. He made the tour special through his enthusiasm and nuanced take on the topic. While bringing historical insight he also made the tour as it should be, about the victims. Although he is Canadian he brings such love to the history that his origin does not matter. Two fantastic tours with two fantastic guides. It also helps that Chris is low-key one of the best looking people I have ever seen.

My husband and I were part of Artie's walking tour group. We ran late and Artie was very helpful and patient with us. He told us about the luggage lockers located in the train station. The pace of the walking tour was good for us. Artie showed us where the Museums are, the Protestant cathedral, the square (empty library), checkpoint charlie, berlin wall, holocaust memorial, the bunker, and many more. Artie is very knowledgeable and we were lucky to have him as our guide. Thank you so much, Artie! Keep doing what you're doing. You Rock!

We just went on the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp with guide Tina and it was incredible. She is super knowledgeable about Berlin and the history of Germany. The tour was definitely the right decision to visit this place. There's a few museums inside and you can tour it on your own but with an experienced guide explaining and showing us everything we feel that we took in a lot more of the history and have definitely more knowledge about the place and about the history of WW2 and the concentration camps. The tour starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm (back into Berlin). They are very organised and friendly. I definitely recommend them and specifically Tina!

The number of people who participated together was eight people, and there were also English tours, and they were from the United States, Canada, and Australia. On the way, it was a four hour course with lunch. The guide will guide you through the check points. I made a preview on this tour and returned to my favorite place after the tour. One of best walking tours ever thanks to Martin, best tour guide ever!! You'd think it would drag since it's 4 hours but he was so knowledgeable that it passed very quickly while hitting many important spots both well known and off the beaten path. Gave a really thorough perspective of Berlin history, not shying away from talking candidly about the worse parts and their context. Still able to keep the mood up and joke around with us though! I really felt that I had a complete picture of Berlin by the time the tour ended and would strongly recommend to other people interested in getting more than a surface-level understanding of Berlin. Martin also had lots of great recommendations for things to do in the city since he was a native Berliner—he even took us to a great local cafe during our break!

A really informative, interactive and fun tour to get you up and running when your arrive in Berlin. We took the inside walk tour with Nickolai, who was amazing and knowledgeable. Summarized the history of Berlin in 20 minutes and gave us interesting insights on the various historical events right from the medieval ages upto the cold war era. The only thing I missed is a stopover at a more prominent location for the Berlin Wall such as the East side gallery.

Loved the insider tour. The guide Martin gave a wonderful tour of east Berlin, with a detailed account of all the history of each stop. He was happy to answer questions, as well as adding in jokes and light-hearted banter throughout. Personally I feel having the right guide is crucial to enjoying a tour, and Martin was brilliant. The pace of the tour is nice and slow walking, so anyone could easily keep up. The break in the middle is welcome for a quick bite to eat.

Absolutely fantastic tour! My friend and I went on the 'famous walk' tour and had a wonderful day. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the city - it was the best way to learn about the history and see all the major sights.

We did the Sachenhausen tour with Yan. Yan was very well spoken, informative and dropped a couple of jokes here and there. Overall, he was a pleasure and answered any questions I may have had. I would definitely recommend using this service to tour Sachenhausen. Yan got all of us to and from the concentration camp by public transportation. It was a breeze. Thanks Yan!

We were booked on the Sachsenhausen tour with 36 others. We didn't expect it would be such a big group until we arrived. Our tour operator, Nikolai, impressively handled this big group with ease and great organisation considering we all took public transport. Sachsenhausen was a memorable experience, Nikolai was very informative and had good knowledgable about the camp. I would have taken a star off purely for the amount of people that they take per group, but considering the price point - I would say it's good value.

Our guide was Ronan. He was very knowledgeable on the overall history of Berlin and Germany. All I new about Berlin was the Berlin Wall. Ronan was very sincere in his delivery of its history. It was easy to see he likes what he’s doing. He was also comical, patient and friendly. We took a much needed break half way through the tour. It’s truly a four hour walking tour, so bring water, cameras and cell phones. Well worth the time and money, you won’t be disappointed!

I know it is bold, but I think I can take the liberty and speak on behalf of my 'stranger' group for our Historical walking tour. We met at the arranged meeting spot and immediately were made to feel comfortable by RANDALL. He was funny, inclusive, knowledgeable, patient and managed to keep everyone enthralled for the entire 4 to 5 hours. Thanks so much to RANDALL for making this long walk so easy. You are definitely meant to do this type of work. Amazing.

(Translated by Google) We did the tour of the 3rd reich with Celia and the tour of Germany divided with Ivan, both very professional guides, we visited sites that we would never have found alone. About 3 hours of guided tour by 10eur. each tour (price for having the Berlin Welcome Card). I recommend it without a doubt! We arrived about 15 minutes before the scheduled time to the meeting point and bought the tour directly to the guides identified with a card (there are several languages). It is essential to have a ticket or card to use public transport since the visit is done on foot, by bus, train, or tram.

We did a 3rd Reich Tour with Jim, and it was fantastic. Jim was very knowledgeable and I was able to pick his brain with any questions that came up. The tour was a little over three hours and went at a good pace.

I did two of the walking tours – Third Reich and Cold War – and cannot recommend them highly enough. (Swedish) Maria is knowledgeable, personable, and she did an excellent job making sure everyone enjoyed the experience and the older members of our group were not left behind. The experience was excellent, the price was very affordable, and I'll be back to do more!

Beautiful walking tour around Potsdam's buildings and parks. Our guide, Jim, was really well prepared and able to explain everything we wanted to know.

Had tour guide mike, Went with girlfriend and had really good time was given a ton of intresting information and had some problems with trains last minute cancellations which didnt slow him down straight to next available train which ended up getting delayed aswell (not mikes fault), plenty of light heartedness shown and explained in detail everything we came across and were given good photo and opportunities to have extra time wherever we wanted didnt feel rushed although we were behind schedule, on the way back dropped train ticket under the train and mike replaced it with his own one for us, saved us at least 6 euros, very friendly and a great tour highly recommended!

We loved Maria D so much! She was fantastic and engaging and made our visit stellar!! The kids bombarded her w questions and she handled them like a champ. You can tell she was a teacher before she moved here.

Join a half day tour with Insider Tour led by guide Rob to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial. Make a right decision to join this tour as I have learnt so much about the history. Rob was very knowledgeable and shared many information about the place and the history of the era.

Had Irish Phil as our tour guide, and he was superb. Knowledgeable and great at talking the tour. The tour was well paced about 4miles in total over the 4 hours, so not too rushed, and its a great and inexpensive way to see the city. Do it early in your stay as it makes navigation easier for the remainder, also there are 2 pickups west and east. The west pickup is 30 minutes earlier and just takes you to the east start point. Easier just to go there direct yourself. A Berlin welcome card makes the tour a bit cheaper, and there are cards in many hotel receptions that do likewise. Any saving you might want to consider using as as tour guide tip :-) Recommend this as a great half day city tour

Wow. The best word I can use to describe our Cold War tour with the amazing Nickolai, is simply, wow. Nickolai is a true gem. From being open in sharing his own storied past with to being immensely knowledgable about the vast history of Berlin, Nickolai was for us the true star of our entire three-day trip to Berlin. In addition, Nickolai did an amazing job giving us unique insights into both sides of communism, Berlin's history, "Ostalgia", and the Cold War itself. We all felt his perspective was well-founded, well-researched, and well-explained - allowing us all to see things from multiple sides and come to our own conclusions (or inconclusions, even!) More than all of that though, it was his contagious passion and clear excitement for the city's history that truly made our four hours with him memorable, enjoyable, and something we were all instantly eager to recommend to our friends and family. I cannot recommend this tour and Nickolai enough. Basic info: tour: Cold War Walking Tour; guide: Nickolai; time: Saturday morning, early September; weather: chilly when standing around; group: we were three people and the overall group was 16 (max. 20); walking: we didn't actually walk very much - we stood around a great deal listening to Nickolai and we took the subway multiple times (price is not incl. in tour ticket).

Insider Tours Famous sights tour was awesome. Jared was a World class guide, with an amazing depth of knowledge, witty passionate delivery, loud easy to follow style and a let "no one get left behind" approach. Great value for $15. Four value hours and a quick break.

John (J.J.) is a fantastic tour guide and incredibly knowledgeable (not surprising given his Oxford degree in German history!). Fab storyteller with a great sense of humour - not a dull moment in the 4.5 hours, so very good use of €14. Convenient and no booking required - just meet outside the location indicated on their website. For the Famous Insider Walk, you only need to purchase a single journey AB zone travel ticket, which I believe is €2.80 (don't do what I did, which is purchase a €7.70 single DAY travel ticket). Highly recommended.

Very nice tour! This involved a lot of walking and standing up. The tour guide's historical accuracy was a little off but it was done well. Overall a good tour, but tiring!

Our guide was JJ. He was amazingly knowledgeable and his clear passion for the history of Berlin captivated us for the entirety of our four hour Famous Walk. Our tour was around 15-20 people and JJ took the time to speak to everyone in the group. I would definitely recommend the company and JJ.

Had an issue with tripadvisor but the insider tours employees where helpful and understanding. Did the famous walks tour of East Berlin with a decent sized group of about 20 people. Phil was our guide and he was wonderful! Explained thoroughly and answered everyone's questions. Easy to follow. He was also humorous which is always nice. I feel that we where given a very good overview of the history and highlights of Berlin and learned some insider knowledge that we would have never known as a tourist. Thanks!

Pip was outstanding on our Sachsenhausen tour. I paid 14 EUR for this tour, yet she went above and beyond to the very last minute giving everyone directions at the train station. She was a joy to talk to as well on the train ride! If you ever make it to Florida I'll give you a tour! Sachsenhausen was a harrowing experience, I can only imagine visiting Auschwitz by comparison. Word to the wise, this is an intense amount of walking. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes and bring water.

This is a great snap shot tour of Berlin Chloe our guide was fantastic and the information she gave us on top of what you already know is great. Chloe was very friendly and knowledgeable and also answered all our questions even the ones that were not directly linked to the tour. My only one slight comment is that perhaps you need to say you are carrying pink umbrellas somewhere in the blurb so you can identify the tour guides.

Very lovely tour, very thought provoking and sombre… really important to see the history and make sure it’s never forgotten. The tour guide Campbell was very nice and helpful. Really good for English travellers and who may be nervous travelling for the first time by themselves. As two young women who have never travelled to Berlin, we felt very safe which is important in these times.

We also were guided by Thomas on a walking tour through Berlin. The historical accounting of both George and Thomas showed depth of knowledge only historians could exude. Thank you to you both for your education and inspiration!
