A very quaint place, by the train tracks. The food is top notch. I advise enquiring about the catch of the day, from live lobsters, to big tiger prawns, to fresh octopus and snapper, you must try them for sure. The coconut roti with butter garlic sauce is divine. Coupled with the earnest Aruna and Vishal to take care of you, and the nostalgia of the sporadic train will fill your stomach and your heart.

The place was pretty good. Book the table on the balcony to have a close look at the trains passing by. The fresh seafood, cooked well is the reason to come. The staff is very welcoming and nice. The prices are quite moderate

This restaurant is very conveniently located right outside Taj. It’s across the train tracks and has a very jungle lodge Ambience for some reason. I loved the lobster here. My son loved his seafood spaghetti but the tuna steak we ordered was quite bland in comparison. It would perhaps suit the European palate more. Liked the food here overall. They have Indian and Chinese cuisine too but we dint try any. What I dint like was the attitude. When we stepped in, a table for 4 at the balcony got vacant and I requested the staff for the same. They refused to give it to us and showed us to a table on the adjoining deck but not near the rail which I wanted. The other table was ‘Reserved’. I was pretty disappointed ☹️ Within ten minutes of us sitting there. Two visibly ‘White’ Groups entered in five minute intervals and were promptly made to sit in those two tables. I couldn’t help but feel differentiated!! What is it with Asians and their obsession with white skin. I really fail to understand. As a tourist when i am capable of spending the same amount or perhaps more why can’t the same privilege be extended to me by a neighboring nation ??? I left with mixed emotions and would perhaps not go there again.

Amazing restaurant. I love the ambience, it’s very simple and great. The staff is very friendly. Their food is amazing. Srilankan curry is a must try. They also do serve alcohol. This is located beside the railway track. Street parking is available. Overall I had a great experience. Definitely a place you would want to visit.

Very delicous Food, really friendly people and good prices! We‘ve been there four times during our short visit in Bentota and I highly recommend eating there. Everything we got there - different Curries, Prawns, Rice-Dishes, the Coconut-Rotti and so on - was delicous! Even in the difficult times at the moment, the team went over the top and organized their traditional Sri Lankan Curry with multiple Ingridients for us. If you are staying in Bentota, treat yourself with a visit of the Rana Seafood Restaurant!

We are germans (33/32) and arrived on 20th of july in Sri Lanka. First stopp in Bentota. The rana Restaurant is close to our Hotel Avani Resort. It has a nice and modern architecture. The food is very good. We ate there for lunch and Dinner. Very delicous food and a good choice. We had prawns, curry, fish and roti. Everything was very good and very friendly people.

We booked for 4 people but were super disappointed We had the seafood platter but it was poorly cooked. EVERYTHING was dry and overcooked with chewy calamari and lobster. The crab had the fat missing and it just looked 'suspicious' - not sure why, but we didn't fancy it Shrimps over-cooked and shells difficult to strip from them. We didn't think that the promised 400/500g weights of some of the items matched up with the reality The water asked how was the food and I told him. He wasn't pleased and said, in a surly manner, that I had eaten it so had no grounds for complaint. I wasn't complaining but giving the feedback he requested A poor and uninterested response Service after that was very detached and slow Atmosphere and ambience is nice with live music. Nice and you get a personal tune at the table but at the end they just stand there silent looking at you which is a bit embarrassing until you try and work out how much tip they are expecting - later we were told in the 500 to 1,000 range The place was full of Russians and it may be they are cooking to the favoured style of their main audience, but I don't know Poor food, very poor service response. Not a quality, well-cooked seafood restaurant Maybe stick with the other international food options

Very tasty, great fresh seafood, superfriendly and helpfull stuff. Amazing live-TVsceen also know as railway and trains going right in couple meters of restaurant. Absolutely recomend! We tried mini seafood plate, tuna steak, fried calamari, grilled calamari, prawns (grilled, cocktail and more) - were going to this place every evening. Located close to Bentota beach you need to cross the railroad to enter. Spacious restaurant on 2nd level with many seats serving seafood and other dishes. Prices are neither to high nor low. Service is friendly, helpful. Food was good. Wishing Rana Seafpod a good season. Go and try it yourself. 😃🥳🥂 There are a couple restaurants in this street.

Very good restaurant, the food gets really quickly (unlike other places), it was good quality and the service was great!

It’s a nice place, good ambiance. We tried 3 dishes, Lobster 🦞- 3/5 - it was decent, but was not supported with any dips/sauces Jumbo Prawns 🦐- 1/5 - they ruined it by over cooking and the prawns lost the texture and waste of money Butter Chicken 🍗-1/5 - the spices/masalas were not cooked well. Taste was below average The service was good and have a good ambience.

Good food. I like their soups and seafood dishes. The views of passing trains are cool.

Not our best in Sri Lanka. We had a chicken curry and a lamb dish and the meat was SO overcooked. The dish itself tasted nice, rice was cold and poppadoms stale. The seafood around us looked nice, we should have ordered this. Cocktails were actually good and not yoo expensive, service was fine. Menu is too big. Nice to watch the trains to by and a good atmosphere

STOP searching for restaurants & dine at RANA!! Rana is serving the best food in Bentota! The food was absolutely delicious and nevertheless the quality of the ingredients used in cooking tops it all. They only cook using the best ingredients and regional products. The fish I ate has been caught just that day! We had the chance to speak to the owner, Ranga and he showed us videos of how they have sliced almost a 60kilo Tuna! Mind blowing kitchen! We absolutely had the BEST dining experience. Friendly & fun staff.

The place was beautiful and it had a great vibe but the food was below average, the portions were small and there was barely any flavour. A gimmicky restaurant with nothing much to offer in terms of food. However, everything was very fresh so thats why I gave the food 2 starts. Wouldn't come back here though.

Came here with my family today and had the best prawns Ive ever had in Sri Lanka. Staff were very friendly, the restaurant was very clean and decorated in a modern rustic style. Highly recommended….

This place offers the best seafood you can find in Bentota! There western selection of burgers, sandwiches are also very good! This has been out 2nd visit in 2 days and we are surly coming back again. Great food, great staff and outstanding service! Will be back again!

A nice restaurant situated right outside of Taj Bentota. We went there for beers and snacks a couple of times and sat upstairs. The restaurant itself has a nice feel to it. They had a rope hanging off the balcony so the monkeys could come up for food. The food was good but could be better.

Good food. Has indian cusine too. Located just at the entry gate of taj bentota just across the railway line. The lighting and seating arrangements are good though i would advice only to venture for dinner as it is an open air space and seating on the first floor would be hot as it is open air with a time roof with wooden inner linings. One can enjoy nice dinner here amongst music from the late 90s. The place also serves beer and i belive other wines are also available. The menu is lower priced as compared to taj but as compared to local rates it would definitely be expensive. All rice and chicken/ seafood curries range between 1200 lkr to 2000lkr. The quantity is reasonable for 1 person only for each dish. Lobster and other seafood delicacies ate also available but price not listed on menu as it is seasonal. Overall a good option to dine in if you are staying at the tak and want some local food with local flavour.

Went to have lunch because it was recommended by a friend. The food was okay, bit salty. Ordered a seafood platter and got a big crab with very little meat. Therefore I felt it wasn't value for the money. Not sure because of the economic crisis.

This place is amazing. They were closed for the pandemic but back with a vengeance. Amazing menu, lots of options, even beyond seafood. But the seafood platter we had was delicious. Cold beer available at best restaurant price you can find in Sri Lanka. Ambiance is a a big beautiful tree house meets a beach bar. Train went by while we sat and it was amazing. Kids would love it. Staff are very kind and speak English very well but special shout out to Aruna who was fantastic, personable and attentive.

Went here for my husband's 60th. The sea food platter is incredible, every bit of fish was tasty, succulent and beautifully cooked. The staff are really friendly and great sense of humour. Excellent value for money.
