📿 Erumbeeswarar Temple 📿 This Shiva Temple is present in a suburb called Thiruverumbur in Trichirapalli , Tamil Nadu. The temple falls on the way to Thanjavur by road and is just about 15 kilometres from Trichy. Nearby Thiruverumbur Railway Station available. The deity worshipped is called Erumbeeswarar and the name of his consort is Saurabhya Kudalaambal. The temple stands on a 60 feet high top of hill with a long flight of stairs to take you up. The temple has two parakrams above the hilltop and a holy water tank at the foot. The temple finds mention in many sacred poems and hymns. HISTORY :- The temple dates back to the Chola dynasty of ancient India. Aditya Chola, a ruler of this dynasty built a series of temples along the riverbank of Kaveri to mark his victory in the battle of Thirupurambhiyam. This temple is one from the series. The inscriptions in the temple signify the ancient connections of the temple. The Archaeological Survey of India referred to it as a protected monument. Thiruverumbur Erumbeeswarar ShivaTemple is also called the Kailash of Southern India. Mythology :- Once a demon called Tarakasura ruled this place he terrorised humans and The Deva's. The gods turned themselves into ants to worship Lord Shiva to get rid of the demon. The Shivalinga was slippery for the ants to reach the apex. At last the Lord was pleased with their devotion and changed the shivalingam to an ant-hill and bent slightly to help them. He is thus called Erumbeeswarar over here. The Tamil word for ants is Erumbu. Now also the impression of ants is sculptured over Linga. Om Namashivaya.

The ancient Sri Erumbeeswarar temple situated on a rock. There are nearly 60 steps to reach the temple. We could see the aerial view of Trichy and able to see the Srirangam gopuram if the sky is clear. The water in the temple pond is full even in the hottest summer days. Serene place in the midst of a busy city

One of the must visit temple in Trichy, rather than routine srirangam samayapuram this temple is a definitely a must watch by everyone. Situated in Tanjore highway, has a good car parking space in front of the temple. Less than 100 steps so it's not difficult in climbing. This Erumbeeshwarar temple is beautifully maintained by the Archeological Survey of India ASI, excellent maintenance and the priest inside temple are so polite and genuine. This temple is said to be construed during the 7- 8th century Chola period. Excellent architecture and beautiful pillars. This temple main deity Shivan appearance would be slanting to right side from our view. It has many great history, not so crowded. Has a good view from top of the temple,no tickets for entrance. Must visit

One of the ancient temples of Shiva and is amongst the 276 Padal Petra Sthalams. The Devas due to threat from demons, took the form of ants and offered pooja to Shiva. The temple is on a small hillock and has 150 steps. The temple is located closer to BHEL factory, Trichy and looks like a fort. Goddess looks so beautiful and Divine. Lingam is swayambhu.

Shri Erumbeeswarar Shiva temple is on hillock in Thiruverumbur about 10 kms from Trichy on the Thanjavur highway. It is just 300 mtrs inside, on the northern side of highway. More than 1200 years old, padal petra sthalam. Shri Narunkuzhal Nayaki Amman (Parvathi) in a separate sannidhi. ASI maintained temple. Requires further maintenance work especially in inner prakaram and for smaller deities. About 100 granite steps to climb. Difficult on sunny day time.

I was very excited while seeing this temple.. it's usual like other temples are located on rockfort.. but I saw that rain water observed by the rock and it's leaking or drizzle like a rain all over the temple.. in ancient times water is a great weapon used for breaking the rock..

One of the beautiful place that shows the greatness and cultural supremacy of ancestors of today's Tamil civilization where the main deity Almighty Lord Shiva is assuming the form of an ANT(erumbu) & the name of that place "Thiruverumbur" is derived from the form that Lord Shiva has assumed. The deity Shiva Lingam here is slightly different and is tilted.

Best place to find inner peace. Need to climb mountain around 100 steps to reach the temple. I suggest to go in the early mornings or evenings to enjoy the breeze and view from the top. Afternoons, mostly the temple will be closed and its too hot to step on the stones. It's lord shiva's temple which is inclined a bit.

Looks like one of the very old temple with historic background. Temple is located on a small hill, around 100 steps. The road that leads to temple is not much visible from main road. Car parking is available. Small pond is there...location will give a feel of our own village. Good place to visit in the evening.

Erumbeeswarar ShivaTemple of Lord Shiva is present in a suburb called Thiruverumbur .Every temple has some mythological fact connected with it. When the gods lost all their possession in heaven to the demon called Tarakasura, they appealed to Lord Brahma for help. Brahma gave them the advice to worship Lord Shiva at this place in order to please him. This would help them in defeating Tarakasura. The gods turned themselves into ants so that they don't come to the notice of the demon. The Shivalinga was slippery for the ants to reach the apex. At last the Lord was pleased with their devotion and changed the shivalingam to an ant-hill and bent slightly to help them. He is thus called Erumbeeswarar over here. The Tamil word for ants is Erumbu.

Shiva is believed to have transformed himself into an ant hill and tilted his head at this place to enable ants to climb up and worship him. Erumbeeswarar is revered in the canonical 7th-century Tamil Saiva work the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam The temple is one in a series built by Aditya Chola (871-907 CE) along the banks of river Cauvery, to commemorate his victory in the Tirupurambiyam Battle.
