Incredible location, beautiful rooms, and very kind and welcoming staff. What more could you wish for in Bhaktapur? From room 303 you get arguably the best view of Bhaktapur durbar square. The breakfast is also good. I highly recommend this place if you’re staying in Bhaktapur, either for a few days, or for a longer period as we did.

Shiva guest house is apparently one of the oldest guest houses in Bhaktapur. It is very cute and authentic and it makes you truly feel you're in Nepal. Some of the rooms have world-class views on the historic square. The staff is very nice (just like everywhere in this town), the restaurant is cute too and the food is good and varied. If you're here for just a few days, I'd go back to Shiva anytime because it captures the feel and vibe of this historic town so well. A drawback is that after sundown, Bhaktapur gets cold, the heating in most of the local restaurants and the bedrooms is so basic that it's not comfortable to hang around so you end up crawling under your blanket after 8pm, more so because the whole town closes down at 9pm. The other drawback is that the town dogs make a lot of noise at night and from 5am, all kinds of bells start ringing, which is cute at first but can prevent a good rest after a while. In that case, you could consider going to the Nanee where you can enjoy modern comforts and a sound proof room. But I'd definitely start my stay in Bhaktapur with Shiva!

Stay away from that place: largely more expensive than the area (only place I visited that exclude vat). You'd expect great food and nice service but the steak was frozen and without any taste, service was rude

Bad coffee and rude staff. Stay away. Gave 2 stars as at least the toilet was clean.

Tried my morning mocha at this place's cafe. It was good. The ambience is calm and soothing here. You can give this cafe a try when you are in Bhaktapur.

If I am around Bhaktapur, this is my go to place to grab lunch . Been a loyal customer for a decade and the service, food and ambience is still the same .

Very central location. View from room 303 was fabulous : no need to go out to see sunset! Picture is actual view right from the window. Loved to hear the bells in the morning. I had a serious issue with my credit card and the manager helped me out, remaining calm, patient & very professionnal. Thank you. Breakfast was very good too (tried the curd with fresh fruit & muesli).

The café at Shiva Guest House is simply wonderful!!! The couple who manage it are quite friendly and hospitable. Try the museli with its plump sumptuous raisins with yogurt and fruit: it's delicious! Actually, Bhaktapur is famous in Nepal for its yogurt. The coffee is great, too! The café is located near Durbar Square with a view of some of its lovely temples. Fun fact: If you want to buy any beautiful handmade textiles, Monica, the manager's wife, very sweet and helpful, is happy to guide you to a great shop.

This guest house is the best you can get in Bhaktapur. With a location directly next to the old Bhaktapur city entrance don't look any further. Next to the nicely decorated clean rooms with real hot showers (in most other places where we stayed in Nepal only the advertisement shows "24hr hot shower", reality is more like "24hr shower options available"), pleasant beds and the spacious bathroom, good and extensive breakfast (Bhaktapur yogurt, fruit and muesli were brought to the table). Personnel, and especially the guy who runs the place is very friendly and has very useful information about the city itself and access to the city. Other reviews mentioned a lot of noise from the complimentary temple bells: We'll, we hardly heard them. Instead, the dogs (as mostly in Nepal) were accountable for most of the sounds we heard.

Recently visited in the winter of 2021; splendid hotel with a woody architecture that kept the place nice and cozy. The hosts were really hospitable and welcoming. The best perk of the guest house besides their rates is the location was that being inside the durbar square (opposite of the 55 window palace) really makes travel easy. Many alternate places to eat just outside too!

My first visit I had the veggie burger, fries n black tea... I enjoyed it n the cost was less than $4/ 385rps. Nice environment, helpful staff n free wifi... pw= nepal222... Remember, as an added way to increase profits, such places will always add in the CAR n regular tax... 25% thrown in even if the menu or sales slip says it's already included... not so much no ey, more the principle of getting taken.
