Great location although I think I caught the staff on a bad day. The female reception lady was neither understanding nor sympathetic towards the situation. Just blunt, condescending and angry. A real shame.

Great views! It's always worth a visit. You can either hike from the town center, or park above the castle and take a short walk. Awesome terrace to have a drink, coffee or a cake.

Lovely Hostel. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Fantastic service from the staff. Beautiful location of course. We forgot to purchase a youth hostel stamp card which you need to stay there and the staff were kind enough to help us out. Much easier if you have one already. If you are backpacking be prepared to do some stair climbing. It's the easiest way to get there from the town but it is a good work out.

Impressive castle to look at and also excellent views from the caste. That's about what good is in the castle. The room's are small. The food is terrible at restaurant. Breakfast was ok. Go visit and enjoy the views, pass anything else.

Tip (from reception): book a couple of weeks in advance if you visit Bacharach during the off-peak season and two years in advance (at least) for the peak season, as it's a quite visited site.

The view was amazing. The mountains really stood out because of the beautiful sun.

Spent a great week at the Youth Hostel with the Burgensommer Programm. The kids loved to explore the castle with the wonderful Chrissy and are still excited about the boat trip, self-made knight equipment and evenings on the terrasse. Great team, clean rooms and decent food!

I had a very amazing time at an event held over the weekend at the castle. The venue itself is amazing and the views from it are breath taking. Be ready for a workout if you are going by foot as it’s quite an ascent. The one thing I didn’t like was feeling rushed to depart very early, and the language barrier with the staff made it hard to communicate, I left feeling like they could have been just a tad more helpful. Still I had the most memorable time of my trip in here and I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone.

First time to be accommodated in a real castle. Great place for an event or weekend get away. Very high value for your money. Food is amazing and has a relatively high variaty. For people with special diet recommend to request special food in advance. Very close to the city centre and also on main trails for hiking and biking.

I stayed in this place for a couple of nights many years ago and have never forgotten it. Remember watching the boats go up and down the Rhine below, strung with fairy lights as I got pleasantly sozzled on the court yard. Happy days!

We claimed all the way up, some 592 staircase not courting the flat parts, you would think a rest bench would be nice

We've stayed here twice and really love it! They have great food and nice, clean rooms. Such a unique experience to stay in a castle. The first time we stayed, we had a large room for just the two of us and the second time we were in a super small room for four of us. Each made it a fun experience!!

Absolutely breathtaking views in an amazing and stunning historic Castle/Burg which functions as a youth hostel! Very friendly and accomandating stuff. Can highly recommend this place. So many things to see and learn historically. In Bacharach and in Kaub! Wonderful experience!!! Just accompanied a bunch of 4th graders on their class trip for two nights.

Stayed here 20 years ago. The hike to the top was brutal with full backpacks but staff was great as was the view. Typical hostel setting with small rooms and bunk beds. Food was good. I don't understand the complaints about small rooms and two bathrooms/showers. It's a hostel. That's what you get. Good grief. If you want a bed and private bath then get a hotel or B&B. Took a great cruise down the Rhine in town, too.

I can't say enough good things about this place. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. They speak good English so that's a blessing

The Castle is our annual AGoT gathering place. Everything is great there. The staff is understanding when the Castle is full of nerds that never sleep.

A youth hostel located in a beautiful castle with excelent views to the Rhine river. We stayed 1 nighet (2 adults + 2 teenagers) and got 2 very basic rooms with bunk beds. Rooms were on different level maintenence and accessories but were OK. Food is also basic but very much OK for this price level. We asked for a packed lunch and got only a few basic products which is definitely not close to lunch. At the bottom line - pretty good value for money

This is an incredible spot to enjoy the views and some drink/food. However, there is a problem: the staff in the cafeteria/canteen is incompetent. When I visited, the only guy manning the counter spent an average of 5 minutes on each customer: four people in front of me literally took 20 minutes. There was another man behind the guy, who looked like the supervisor, aimlessly walking around without doing anything to solve the ever-growing queue. Then, they got worried that there wouldn’t be enough food for the hotel guests, so they suddenly decided that outside customers would not be allowed to order food. Only drinks. With no prior notice. Amazing spot, amazing view, appalling service.

A great place to stay: a beautiful castle with excelent views to the Rhine, very clean and with a good food. 15-20 mins uphill walk from the train station.

In and of itself, there is nothing special to the castle which has been turned into a hostel providing inexpensive accomodations. Maybe it is a great place to experience what it is like staying in a castle but I did not get a chance to stay as it was not my plan. Otherwise the best it has to offer is the stunning panoramic view of the town, villages, vineyards and River Rhine. To some the walk up to the castle may be challenging yet it can be pleasant and not a long climb.

Beautiful town and relaxing walk to the castle. I would not skip this town if your taking a Rhein River tour. But 100% stay the night here at the hotel, it worth it. The well kept architecture, it's stunning.
