Sculptural group, made by the Altsasua artist, Dora Salazar. It is made up of four figures of women 2.5 meters high and 70 centimeters wide. Together, they are 9 meters long. The sirgueras were women who towed boats along the shore of the estuary with the only help of a sirga (thick rope) and their own physical strength. It represents the effort and hard work of women and the unfinished path towards gender equality. It was inaugurated on April 30, 2021.

They are statues that I have never seen before and they are made of iron and with that rope they have they have been completely well crafted.

It is impossible to forget its expressiveness, power, beauty and transmission of sensations. Don't lose sight of the sculpture on Paseo de Uribitarte. It has a lot of emotional power and talk. Thank you Dora Salazar and the Bilbao City Council for bringing us closer to being able to touch the urban sculptures that represent us so much historically.

Escultura junto a la ría que rinde homenaje a estas mujeres cuya labor era, con su fuerza y una única cuerda, remolcar los barcos en la Bilbao de finales del siglo XIX.

Easy to access, this sculpture is thought provoking. Some explanation or a plaque would be helpful.
