The rooms are small but practical (with foldable desks and other space saving stuff) that you don't feel crammed. The curtains do a good job of keeping the lights out and the room is also well ventilated thanks to the high windows. The breakfast was great and ai found the options quite sufficient. The hotel also has a sweet little gym and a bar/restaurant area with a table tennis area and Fußball tabel. I thought the employees at the reception (especially the ones in the night) could be a bit more welcoming. I was just given the keycard without any information about where my room is or the WiFi password or breakfast time. Furthermore, I also thought some beverage in the room would've been nice.

It looks fairly new but cleaning could improve, strange smell when I walked into my room, realized later in the evening it was mold in the bathroom due to water damage besides sink and shower door. Good location close to the train station and friendly staff.

Very nice new hotel. Rooms are small but thoughtfully laid out. Very quiet the night we were there. Curtains are excellent at blocking daylight. Internet TV only seemed to have YouTube, but I can recommend Taskmasters if you want a good show to watch on YouTube!

Very nice hotel located 2-3 minutes walking from the main station. The hotel staff is really nice, helpful and attentive. The check in and check out was super smooth. They have well maintained rooms with good and daily house keeping. The lobby is something I liked the most here; specially the sitting area on the left side. It was always good to sit and have the breakfast in the morning and biers in evening. The breakfast buffet is good. Overall experience was amazing in this hotel.

I did not actually stay here, so I cannot comment on the property. However, the customer service is incredibly disappointing. I cancelled my stay in advance in line with cancellation guidelines. My credit card was charged anyway, which is fine for a short amount of time. However, this was two weeks ago, and despite multiple emails and phone calls where it was virtually impossible to reach anyone at the property, I have not received my money back. Apparently it has now been credited back to my card, but it "may take approximately 10-15 business days" before I receive the funds. By that time, it will have been four weeks since my card was charged. I don't normally write public reviews, but in this case it feels like a last resort. Terrible customer service. I certainly will not be staying here in future.

Friendly staff and a very modern design, the Moxy felt more like a hostel. The free water and tea in the lobby was appreciated, and the breakfast offered was better than many other hotels I had stayed at. They were supposed to have casting capabilities with the TVs in their room (project from your device to their tv) but the connecting site was always offline. No mini-fridge in the room meant you had no place to keep drinks. Our air conditioner was useful, but had a constant rattle. Due to the convention, they were full of guests and had no parking left. I think we just got a bad room.

Stylish economy hotel with excellent noise insulation Stayed here one night as stop over on long haul road trip. Located across from big public parking building with €12 overnight parking and direct access to Autobahnfeeder to Düsseldorf and Cologne AND across from Essen central train station (i.e. great location). Don’t even try to use the hotel courtyard parking - just use the public carpark. The hotel is designed like a tech co-working space rather than an old fashioned hotel. Loved it! Bar and front shares the staff. On our arrival one of the staff clearly had more of a calling as a bar tender than a front (had to wait more than 10 mins) - but all staff was super nice and charming. Breakfast was good with healthy and dairy free options. Again, loved the lobby/bar open plan seating. Rooms have a lovely and smart design using space excellently. Market leading integration of bath room and shower featuring Hans Grohe overhead rain and hand shower. Despite being on a busy 4 lane street, rooms are super quiet (spoiler: not if you keep your window open). The bed is queen size but Chinese firmness = very hard. Good bedding but only two pillows. Considering price: excellent value for money

The location and interior design are very nice. The cleaniness was ok. But some thinks were laking. For instance we were given the message that we could get a cocktail in arrival for our honeymoon, never saw one. We had a fire alarm at the middle of the night, can happen, but never an apology or something. The breakfast was ok the first day, the second day to crowded, 15 people waiting for the coffee machine en everything empty on a reasonable hour. When we asked for an other pillow, because the ones in the chamber were very soft, there were none. And in this price range we are used on some kind of coffee/tea facility on the chamber. So our stay wasn't exactly what we expected in the end.

We stayed at the Moxy Essen to visit the Christmas markets, and the hotel itself ended up being even more of a highlight of our stay. Every staff we interacted with were very friendly, always pleasant and willing to help with any questions we had. From check in to inquiries about our room bill at the end, they were always responsive and looked to make our stay perfect. The lobby has a really fun design. One of the evenings it poured rain and we needed to wait it out. Fortunately from the great bar service, stylish design of the area to lounge, as well as various board and table games (Ping pong and Fuseball), we enjoyed ourselves and we're in no rush to leave when the rain finally died down. Prices on drinks were reasonable for a hotel bar. Also each morning the breakfast buffet offered a great selection of options. The coffee machine was ok. Maybe not the best, but considering it is available most of the day for use, I can't complain. The rooms were modern and comfortable. Even though our room wasn't the biggest, they do a good job of maximizing it with space saving solutions, and the unique decor was nice too. Bed was comfy and bathroom shower was great! Even had a proper shower door which kept water from leaking out. This is not typical in most of Europe where a minimal glass panel and drain in the middle of the floor seems the most used technique, so this was a major upgrade from that in my eyes! The only items of say they may want to look into was the tv streaming feature did not work, and also the motion sensor lights under the bed were a bit tricky to figure out at first. An option to turn this feature off may be nice for some. Both are very minor details though. The Christmas markets were fun, but overall it was the Moxy Essen that made our stay memorable. I'd definitely recommend it!

The hotel is very modern and aesthetically designed.. the quality of products used are very good/ high.. The family room was very spacious and neat... One thing I missed was that they don't include a water heater for an early morning tea or late night for which h we would have to down to the bar which is 24x7 though....which is probably not a big deal for many...

Clean and cozy room but these days, this is expected. What makes a hotel is the staff. Nikola and Jass from the front desk day crew made sure my stay was EXTRA comfortable. They accommodated all of my needs and made sure that everything was to my satisfaction whenever they saw me. Aside from being extremely friendly, they were incredibly professional and courteous every step of the way. The rest of the morning staff, and the night time staff were just as helpful and polite. You can tell that they genuinely cared about making my stay as easy and nice as possible. They consistently would ask and check with me, making sure I didn't need anything more. A+++ 20/10 will for sure recommend and return. Affordable rooms, very short walk from Essen Central station. Food was fresh and very tasty. Enjoy the Welcome drink! I've never seen a Hotel offer painting classes. That was very cool to see and will have to schedule for next time. In addition to that, the lounge/ bar area was filled with games. I was alone on my trip, but I observed many people use the Foosball, and ping pong throughout the night, as well as the other tabletop games. Very fun, active spot! Thanks again guys!

As the first time coming to Essen, we were nicely welcomed and gave us access to an early check in. Over everything was very clean and spacious ! Had such a great view for witnessing those fireworks on the New Year's eve !

The aircon panel in the room was on the floor when we arrived. We did tell the staff and this was supposed to be fixed the first day, but nothing was done. Apart from this, the room was small but confortable. We ordered a taxi from the desk but it eventually showed up with 10 minutes late. The lobby is indeed friendly but the service might need further improvement.

Moxy hotels are simplified Marriott group hotels aimed towards a younger demographic - they are quite a lot of fun, with the main reception doubling as a 24/7 bar and "play" area. When you return to the hotel in the afternoon, there are board games on the tables and people playing table football - it's got a fun and playful vibe. Breakfast is simple; you get a small selection of hot food, but a wide variety of cereals, pancakes, croissants etc, plus help yourself coffee machines and drinks dispensers. The rooms are pretty simple and on the small size for this kind of hotel (there's no wardrobe for instance) but if you don't need a large room it's perfect. The photos show what you get and it's pretty unique - rebar on the walls to hang your clothes on for instance!

The bathroom/toilet is small so its hard to navigate inside when you shower and wipe yourself after. Location is very great since its near the train station, the shopping stores, supermarkets, etc. I was there during the XMas market time and it only takes about 4-5mins walking and you reach it.

Was an enjoyable stay here. The hotel is in a nice location. Close to the station, but not to close that you hear the traffic. The hotel is a bit too hip for my taste. The bar is great and the personell too, but didn't feel very at home so to say. Biggest disappointment was the lack of a fridge and a safe. Rooms are very clean and tidy. It missess a bit of practical stuff for me, like a good desk and a nice chair.
