An absolute gem hidden off kings heath high street! Rory and Farah are the loveliest owners you could wish to meet. They go above and beyond with what they offer, making sure all their takeaway packaging is recyclable even down to the coffee they select making sure it is organic. They offer vegan friendly options and go out of their way to ensure your allergy requirements are checked. They offer something for everyone!! Their knowledge and passion for what they do is just infectious and you can’t help but leave with a smile on your face and takeaway bag of delicious cake!

Came in today for a couple of coffees as we had seen the café's photos on social media. We were served by Farah and Rory who were friendly, chatty and enthusiastic and passionate about the coffee and food they serve at Pause! Sitting in the aesthetic and cozy surroundings, we tried the Hemmingway (a great speciality coffee!) as well as the hot chocolate and a piccolo coffee. All were made with great ingredients. For food, we were the first (lucky us!) customers to try some of the new brunch items on the menu, including salmon and cream cheese toast (a classic done very well here) and blackberry, goats cheese and honey toast-- this alone was worth the price of admission; sweet, savoury, tart and juicy all at once. Additionally, we tried the granola (all put together with local ingredients by the lovely Farah) which was excellent -- definitely enough for two people in one portion! This was a great first visit-- we will definitely be coming back.

What a special coffee shop, tucked away in Kings Heath. The coffee is honestly the best in birmingham and Farah & Rory are just so warm & friendly. I love coming here because it has a deep sense of joy & passion that is so hard to find. The cakes are HEAVENLY! I love the cinnabuffin - so unique! - and for someone who adores cinnamon, it is perfect! It is the perfect place for coffee dates or little treats.

We ordered various cakes to take away from Pause and they were delicious! From our selection, my husband particularly enjoyed the cinnamon bun and I loved the school cake. (I only wish I had had the foresight to enjoy it with some custard!) The service was wonderful. Even though they were clearly run off their feet, the staff still had time to chat and were incredibly friendly. A wonderful addition to Kings Heath!

May 2022 Update - Finally, the team Rory and Fara have a permanent home in Kings Court. What to expect? A comfortable, chilled out space. Exciting homemade bakes courtesy of Fara (she was serving up a KitKat Chunky Brioche Bread Pudding when I visited). Some of the best coffee in Birmingham. The usual change up in local artisan roasted coffee beans (keeping the regulars happy). Extracted to perfection. Served in cool splendid looking China. Keep up the good work. Loving the black on pink Pause logo. April 2022 Update - It is now using the Verbena restaurant space in Shirley. Open 7 days a week, but only in the morning on Sundays. What you'll get is artisan coffee and a range of delicious homemade cakes. Verbena is an accommodating, bright environment to relax. Please check it out. I walked into Isherwood & Co and there in front of me lay a fresh faced double team ready to welcome me to, what I believe to be, Birmingham's best kept cafe secret. Welcome to Pause. Prepare to be wowed. You be welcomed wholeheartedly by smiley face of staff. Next you gaze will be diverted to the plastic cabinet that is nearly empty. I arrived at 11am. A whole hour after opening time. In that short period the 2 flavours of the cinabuffins had sold out! The staff member mentioned that have a selection of savouries too. The barista was clearly deeply knowledgeable about all things coffee. Pause's plan is to rotate the speciality roasts on a week by week basis. They are also going to experiment with cinnabuffin and coffee profiles to bring the perfect coffee, pastry combo. I love everything that Pause is. I love the logo, the food they offer, the artisan coffee they craft and the enthusiastic people beavering away to make it happen. Fast-forward a few months, years. Hopefully, they occupy bigger premises and move closer to the city. Better still, could you relocate to my home. I can think of nothing better than having a Pause each day.

Bit overpriced, the cinnamon bun was tasteless and wasn't even a tiny bit sweet and couldn't really taste a whole lot of cinnamon either, could only taste pastry. The hot chocolate was okay that's why I gave one star.

This little cafe offers a massive punch. Tucked away along Kings Court, just off the high street you’ll find Pause. Coffee ☕️ and cakes made and served with passion.

We've been regulars at Pause since they were in Stirchley and cannot praise their coffee and bakes enough. The coffee selection is always chosen with care and Rory is more than happy to explain exactly where it's sourced and the flavour profile etc which makes a trip to the cafe a more bespoke experience than a regular coffee shop. We also did the coffee workshop which was amazing and very reasonably priced. We learnt so much and were able to have the session tailored to what we wanted to learn about. Also - get the espresso cake 😍

Hands down, the best coffee in Birmingham! Rory really knows his stuff and his passion for coffee shines through! Incredible baked goodies, all fresh and homemade by superstar owner Farah (you know when you eat something and can’t stop thinking about how good it was? Yeah that!). Lovely environment to do a bit of work and the service is exceptional and so welcoming. Would definitely come back 🤤

Awesome place with friendly service. Order the Toasted Cinnabuffin with marscapone & berries, it is mega! Always changing their roasts with supercool tasting notes and the Hemingway is a little treat for those in the know. Big love to these guys

The coffee here is very good. They use different beans depending on the season, so changes over time. The cakes are good - well prepared and tasty, but not over sized or overly flamboyant. The hot chocolate is excellent as well. The cafe is quite small, so seating is limited, but there is some outside seating. The staff are friendly and helpful. The brunch options are limited because there is no kitchen for cooking.

Really lovely atmosphere. Lovely coffee but the doughnuts and pastries were honestly incredible. Would like to see more alternative milks but this little gem is genuinely one of the best!

Just outstanding! I cannot recommend Pause highly enough! It's a must visit if you're around Kings Heath and definitely worth the travel if you're not! Featuring ever changing specialty coffees and beyond delectable baked goods, Pause never dissapoints. Farah and Rory have built such a lush and welcoming space, their serious hard work is evident in the incredible quality of their produce and also in the warm atmosphere they have created in their shop. From the first visit I felt treated like a friend more than a customer and even on their busiest days (and many visits later) I still feel the same. Rory's passion for coffee is radiant. His commitment to quality and excellent taste means exciting new flavours carefully selected for the bar and an excellent cup of coffee everytime. I highly recommend asking what beans, roast and roastery they're working with at the moment! Rory has often presented me with a beautiful coffee and an account of it's source and tasting notes. One of my favourite orders this summer has been a spanish iced latte; sweet, smooth and refreshing. Farah's baking is exquisite. With a frequent rotation of some iconic Pause classics, seasonal inspired bakes and new flavour combinations there is no shortage of refined delciousness. More often than not I have arrived to the smell of freshly baked cookies or cinnabuffins and have not been able to resist getting one of each! Must try bakes are of course the cinnabuffins, chunky loaded cookies and the chocolate fudge cake (espresso frosted if you're lucky). Farah is wonderful, her skills and creativity are inspiring to be around and defintely come through in her presence and her cakes! All together Pause is an asset to Birmingham and a diamond of a coffee shop & bakery.

Fantastic experience ordering a celebration cake for my 30th. Farah was lovely and catered for needs and listened to all my requests, even at late notice. Cake was super delicious and was beautifully decorated. Highly recommend. Also bought a cookie and had a coffee which was equally delicious! Thank you both so much! Will definitely be back soon for cake and coffee!

£4.20 for a small oat milk latte to go. As decent as the coffee is, it's not the only good place to get coffee in Kings Heath so I won't be back to pay that price again. I'd have understood if it was a large coffee but not something of this size. I appreciate oat milk is more expensive than cows milk but an additional 45p per serving (when you already charge premium end for your coffee) is too much. It's not like the oat milk is in addition to the cows milk, it's instead of!

One of our favourite local places. Drinks and bakes are always wonderful as is the service and atmosphere given and created by the two very lovely owners who have always been very welcoming and attentive. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. Prices are perfectly fair for the quality of the food and drink you get here (and they are similar to the surrounding local places) and they’re always very transparent about their opening times online.

I have visited Pause a few times over the last year in the different places they've been and it's great to see them now as a permanent part of Kings Heath. I tend to go to numerous places for a coffee depending on what I fancy, but what I love about Pause is its clearly run by two people who care about what they're doing. That and the fact there are always new coffees to try and excellent baked treats too! They've always been welcoming and friendly even when I've popped in and it's been packed. I don't have a problem waiting for a coffee when I know it's good (I'd much rather wait than have a burnt coffee from a chain) and they are always really open about any waiting times if there are any. When I popped in recently, I sat in the window with my coffee waiting for the latest batch of cinnabuffins to finish in the oven and it was lovely to hear the chitter chatter of other customers and to feel really welcome too. Definitely a place to check out, for the coffee, cinnabuffins and general loveliness!

Gorgeous coffee, wonderful sweet treats, a small but perfectly formed savoury menu, and wonderful service. What more could you want? We adore the coffee from Pause and love stopping by for a relaxing moment out of a hectic day. You are always welcome in Pause and we welcome it to our vibrant KH independent scene.
