My family enjoyed walking around the art galleries. There are so many things to look at and best of all, it's free admissions. You can leave donations if wanted. I loved looking at the Medieval art galleries and the different parts of Asia art galleries. So many artifacts and they are gorgeous. I was very impressed by what they had on display from different parts of the world. It was lovely. There is a small gift shop (2 people allowed inside at a time), and the rest rooms are decent. We had our one year old in the stroller the whole time as there are some artifacts and art pieces that he could easily grab since they were not encased behind glass. Watch out for that. Masks are a requirement for entry. They do have hand sanitizer stations throughout. You will spend a very long time at this place. We will have to go back as we missed some of the exhibits. Also, 5 minutes walking distance is the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame if interested and inexpensive to get inside.

A beautiful museum with a huge collection of art. Admission was free and staff members were kind. They had really cool displays, not just European art, an incredible Native American art collection!! Bathrooms were accessible and clean. They have small folding chairs you can carry around for free. You can stop to look at specific pieces or just to take a quick break.

On this outing I was reminded of how much I love the museum! This exhibit was informative and full of with vibrant colors. I am a Yoga instructor so I am very appreciative of the work. I will definitely be returning to see this exhibit and others.

Beautiful art. Large space. 3 floors of eye-catching pieces (indoors and outdoors). Great for a family outing, an outing for two, or an outing by one's self. There's also a cute little gift shop.

Great museum though, at the time I went a lot of the rotating collections were being installed. Still, I really enjoyed the experience. The staff is friendly and professional and the building is beautiful. I really enjoyed the sculpture garden and Wedgwood collection. Definitely recommended if you're in Birmingham.

It was clean, the free admission was awesome. And I loved the fact that they had a charging station! It came in handy when my phone started to die while I was taking pictures! All the exhibits had plenty of information and The bathroom was clean. I definitely enjoyed my visit here and plan on coming back with my children in the future.

I don't go to Birmingham often, but when I do I try to schedule time to go to the museum. There's so many beautiful pieces woth unique stories behind them and is worth a shot to see. There's not many things to do in Alabama, but this is one you should do if you're in the area.

Must visit place if you are art lover or not. Huge collection of arts from all ancient times until now. Excellent facility and extremely well maintained. Amazed by the quality of art and the evolution over the ages. Couldn't restrict how people imagined and created such mesmerizing arts when the so-called modern technologies were not present. Must appreciate the museum authorities for the collection of arts and the way they maintain it. Will visit again and again for sure.

Lovely collection, friendly staff. The Wedgewood collection as well as African pottery was really interesting. It took me by surprise. I sell a lot of pottery and you'd think I'd not want to see a bunch of it on a day off, but it was so well done it really captivated me. Thank you for your hard work. Beautiful collection.

I was greeted promptly upon entering, she gave me all the info I needed. There is no cost of admission. This is a small museum but I was impressed with the variety of displays!

Lovely place to go and enjoy for free. Great for day date or for family. Pack snacks and you can stop and eat them at the seating area inside or in the garden if the weather is nice. My only complaint is that it was very warm when we went this past weekend. A thermostat we saw said 72 degrees... When walking through exhibits it seems even warmer than that. I do wish there were more modern exhibits.

I would encourage more people to dial it down a bit and take the time to enjoy the sights. There's beautiful works of art here, free admission and you just might learn something in the process.

Amazing historical art. I don't know if I would call this an art museum alone, I would say it's more of historical/cultural art, but art none the less. Definitely a must see

A wonderful museum in downtown Birmingham with easy street parking, free entry, and a lot of different pieces of artwork from a wide range of time periods. Loved the variety in European, Asian, and African artwork. I wish they had artwork from Latin America, but honestly there was way more art than I initially expected!

Always love coming here! Unlike other art museums where staff members are always monitoring you, this one has a more inviting atmosphere and doesn't create the perception you're "always being watched". The cultural variety they have to offer is one of my favorite parts of this art museum

Thoroughly impressed with this collection in an unassuming location. Beautiful artwork, heavier on the pottery and household items than most art museums, but still plenty of excellent painted art. Best of all, entry is free!

Excellent small art museum. Admission and parking is free. Free parking is a relatively small lot so expect to be flexible during busy weekends or events. Extensive Wedgewood collection.

Insanely great art museum for the ridiculous price of free with free parking too. Buy something at the gift shop at least!! Great collection of works from every era and style. Monet, Pissaro, Remington ,Ansel Adams, beirstadt and on and on. Get some culture and get inspired to create.

My wife and I enjoyed a date to the museum. The special exhibit Redline was sobering—drawing attention to the continuing impact of a decades old policy. Enjoyed seeing art by some of our favorite artists as well as iconic pieces that we were delighted to see “in person” so to speak. Didn’t have a chance to eat there but look forward to the idea of a dinner date.

This Museum is so very much worth the visit. Tons of incredible art in every nook and cranny with hidden gems around every corner. Its free, the staff are knowledgeable and kind, and the art, both modern and vintage are amazing. Take a few hours out of your day and treat yourself to the Birmingham Museum of Art!

Very impressive collection of American and European work. The museum is so large that I did not even have time to do anything except walk through the fabulous artwork (Asian, African, Native American, pre Columbian, and Wedgwood) on the second floor. Free admission and free parking. This place is a treasure that Birmingham should be proud of. Recommended.

This was a interesting place. Myself and my two boys had not ever been to an art museum before. I'd like to tell you about the art but I don't know a thing about art. I can tell you there are a lot of interesting pieces. Plus it was free to get into.

Small musuem with the best collection of Wedgewood pottery. It tries to be comprehensive, with art galleries featuring Far Eastern arts, American Indian arts, African arts, modern arts, and European/American art classics. A few pieces are spectacular but most items are not "masterpieces". It would be better if they could also use additional multimedia to tell stories behind the featured arts or expand the contemporary art section. Overall, it's a joy to visit for a couple of hours yearly.

In one word SPECTACULAR! My CFRD students were amazed from start to finish! They talked about the things they saw, the sculpture garden they explored in, and the in-studio art session, all the way home!

First time to visit this museum but was very impressed. Free to enter and several collections to enjoy and they even offered seats to those who walked to stop and enjoy the various pieces.

I love coming to this Art museum. It's an expensive trip with kids. There is so much to look at. I enjoyed shopping at their gift shop. I have a long sleeve shirt that I love to wear all year long. I can't wait to visit again when I'm back in Alabama. I'll be checking out what else they have to offer in their shop and any new art they have to show.

  • 5/5 Astria S. 5 months ago on Google

My visit to the Birmingham Museum of Art was an enriching cultural experience during my time in the USA while pursuing a diploma in teaching at the University of Alabama. The museum's diverse collection of art spans centuries and continents, offering a remarkable journey through history and creativity. From captivating classical pieces to contemporary masterworks, there's something for every art enthusiast. The exhibitions and galleries were thoughtfully curated, and the museum's commitment to accessibility and education was evident. It's an excellent place to expand one's artistic horizons and appreciate the global artistry, making my visit a memorable and educational part of my stay in the United States.

Really nice and well-organised. Related artworks were organised chronologically in some areas which made it easier to follow the pieces and not get lost.

  • 4/5 Theresa C. 5 years ago on Google
This was a pretty nice place to visit. I wish there was more though. I think more paintings would be really cool, as well as a section on Egypt! There were A LOT of pottery items and little knickknacks that didn't interest me personally, but it was still cool to see. It wasnt very busy so I think Sunday's are a good time to go to avoid crowds.
