I was here for a conference and the conference facilities were pretty good. The hotel is very well located for Central Birmingham and easy to get to. The bedrooms are small but adequate, with a small desk large enough to work from. The food and bar facilities, however, are appalling! My first meal was lunch and there were three hot choices. All three of these choices were for special-needs eaters: there was no meat! The only meat available were cold accompaniments to the salads. The evening meal was significantly better, this time proper food rather than a political statement, although the portions were meagre. The bar facilities are a joke! Within around two hours of the bar opening, they ran out of beer... Overall, I would never come back here, but it may be suitable for vegetarian teetotallers with small appetites...

The primary reason I chose this hotel over other 4 star competitors was because they claimed to have a swimming pool - However, in practice, this is actually the University pool which they have an "arrangement" with. The staff provided information that the pool was open from 9:30am, however, when I went to the pool it actually wasn't open until 12pm. And as I was only staying for 1 night I wasn't able to use the pool on this trip. In the toilet flush did not work properly and the hair dryer kept over-heating so it was very difficult to dry my hair. And when I contacted their hotel to complain about these problems they claimed to check the room and denied that they were actually broken. So good luck to the next visitor in that room! The room and bed was very small for two people to share and far too hot to sleep comfortably. The decor was drab and the bathroom fittings very old. As a 4-star hotel, this poor quality and lack of promised amenities was a huge let dow and I would advisor any visitors to Birmingham to choose an alternative hotel.

    - Nice ground floor communal facilities, but the bedroom areas are rather dated. - The corridors are like student halls. The bedroom desks are over tall, making them uncomfortable to use. - The throw on my bed had a dirty mark. - Bedroom windows are past their best and only open a small amount. - Breakfast was lovely. - The website is poor, I picked to book via expedia. You still get emails about covid and facilities not being fully open (July 2023. I'm summary, it could be a lot better.

Very nice hotel, clean, friendly staff, the breakfast was exceptional. Only negative was the pillows are extremely hard - but it's not worth docking a star for. I'd definitely use this hotel again. Breakfast is between 7 and 9 and you need to vacate your room by 11 AM on your departure day.

Stayed here twice - first-time experience was good. The rooms could be cleaner. A bit pricey for the services provided. Good and responsive reception. Had everything nicely organised in the room on my first stay, not so much on the second one.

Lovely campus and nice lunches offered as part of external conferences held in Conference, Aston. Attended a JCT course with some colleagues, enjoyed the campus vibe ! Nice after lunch sunny walks in mid Feb inside the campus. Car park available within campus as well.

I got my room in 5th floor bit I feel like I'm in labirinty when I walking to my room upstairs. I would use this hotel again Don't use taxi from airport I paid 38eu for one way use uber or something else much cheaper

Didn't stay only attended meeting, rooms were old and poorly kept, bathroom facilities were even worse. Would not recommend as a venue for corporate meetings

A nice hotel and conference location, but lack of on site parking means a hike from the local municipal car park with luggage etc.

For the price and location, The Aston offers great value for money. It's not a 5 star hotel, but the rooms were still extremely comfortable and my only gripe was there were no plug sockets on either side of the bed. The hotel itself lacked free on-site parking, but there are options for parking nearby, some more cost effective than others so do your research first for the best deal. The bar was closed when we visited on the weekend, which was a little disappointing. So onto the staff, all I can say is hotel staff can make or break a stay, and the staff on duty on the evening of 11 March and morning of the 12, were absolutely outstanding. The level of customer service was superb. I will make particular reference to the female members of reception staff, both extremely friendly and helpful and are true assets to the organisation.

The rooms were clean, very comfortable, quiet and the staff was amazing. Very important that bed comfort was right, cannot be beat. Stadd were extremely accommodating and very helpful when I needed to check out early. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Birmingham.

Awesome experience. Very cosy, quaint and comfortable rooms with great food.

Horrible staff, night shift staff are unprofessional, eats during shift while dealing with guest and on their phone. I was advised to park in a carpark nearby as their carpark barrier wasn't working and was assured I won't get a ticket as it was a sunday and if any issues I should contact them to sort it out. I ended up getting a parking ticket where I parked (opposite the uni leisure centre). After 3 months of ignoring my calls and doing something about my ticket I finally spoke to a staff member and nothing was done. I was told to pay the ticket as they advice to pre-book parking ticket. Absolute joke.

Rooms are nice and clean, amenities are good within the room but the only thing that lets this hotel down is the price of the food and the limitabilaty of choices on the menu

Having stayed here twice with a planned return in future, I can say the hotel is of good quality - a very comfortable bed with good facilities. The room is small, but for the type of stay I had, for the price, and for the location, that was okay. I also lucked out on a double room which was a nice surprise.

Rooms small and no aircon. Noisy fans from kitchens. It wasn’t made clear you had to book parking online in advance. I was sent off to do it online but went to a nearby car park near by. Restaurant very average. Disappointing.

Great room for one night stay and perfect for my requirements. Staff assisted me well during check in and ensured I knew everything about breakfast and facilities on site. The room was quite small/boxy but the other facilities and features made up for this

Quiet place to stay! Both the women and the man on the front desk was very helpful. The room was clean and comfy! Definately would stay there again plus the price was good too.

Great welcome on reception. Upgraded to executive room. Fantastic looking bar and restaurant area and the food was gorgeous. Very reasonable price too. Great staff. Would definitely return.

Our company uses this place all the time for conferences. Great bunch of staff, food is usually great here, especially breakfast! I usually like a softer bed but they are really nice rooms.

Nice rooms and they upgraded me to a double room for free. Good location and really good value. You are allowed to use a university gym across the road for free too. Excellent.

We stayed at the hotel for a night and we liked the college vibe around us. The room was clean. Location wise, it's not as convenient as expected. Overall a decent stay for a night. Although, it's overpriced and not worth the money you pay for a night.

Upon entrance, the staff member at reception who goes by the name Simran has welcomed me and my friends with such warmth. Checked us in and made the whole checkin process pleasant. Simran was very helpful and went above and beyond to assist us with her colleague to make it an excellent experience. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to stay in Birmingham as its very close to the city centre and bit out to enjoy some peace. The hotel was clean and quiet. Bed was very comfortable and it was an overall great stay. I would definitely come back and stay for future Birmingham trips. 10/10!

Attending a course here, so its always a little quiet due to it being a weekend. The safe are friendly, the parking is near by and its a lovely place to kick back and learn.

I wish I could negatively critique this place but I can't On arriving the staff were a delight and welcoming. Greeted us so well. Room was hygiene locked. Spotless on arrival. Covid standards 10/10. Wanted more coffee and got more biscuits treats! Breakfast was relaxed and warm and social, no rush to get you out. The bed was a comfy double, firm but soft but firm. Bedding crisp and clean toiletries and iron and ironing board and hair dryer. 5* service If back in Birmingham will book here first!

We booked a weekend leaders retreat for our organisation and Paul and Tanima were amazing, with brilliant attention to detail. They bore all our requests with patience and made us feel reassured our event was in good hands. However once we’d signed the contract we were passed to the events team who got some billing information incorrect and then the finance team couldn’t find the payment we’d made and billed us again. We asked for halal catering for our all Muslim party and despite being the only group having lunch catered that weekend, we were inexplicably served non-halal beef. No one ate from it and it had to be taken away. This had the knock on effect of a loss in confidence from the attendees who wondered why the event organisers (me) had not taken care to arrange things in a culturally sensitive way. I was not followed up by the events team during the week or given an apology for this by anyone from the central team. The day manager was very apologetic on the day for the error and couldn’t understand why non Halal food was made for this organisation.

A fairly basic room. Good location and great staff. Excellent breakfast, perfect poached eggs... The pool is not in the hotel but instead is part of the university.

The room was fine although the other people I attended a conference there with all had a different experience (seems I was the only one with a double bed), service was poor, we had pre ordered food but this was served very late even though the restaurant was empty, there was another room ordering food but this is why pre-booking is necessary surely, bad experience for me food wise would not bother again. Vegan options not great either, it's 2022 let's do better than potato sausages and "cauliflower steak" please

Unfortunately the hotel staff member was quite rude, the walls are paper thin and you can hear multiple rooms from yours, hence the two stars. If you need information about parking don't even bother calling, I imagine the reason for their curtness is that they have an agreement with the parking lot and get money for directing customers to only to the millenium parking lot. There is PLENTY of on the road parking which is a lot closer and cheaper, oh and also free from 7pm to 8 am. I had hoped the hotel would have been kind enough to mention that, but the staff member got mad at me for even suggesting that they should actually tell guests about it if they ask. Anyway, not worth what they charge in my opinion.

Being a 4 star hotel, I am very disappointed with my experience First of all, the decor in lobby and other non guest rooms looks so good but the guest rooms look so outdated, a small tv, no ac, no heater, a shower that plays up, toilet takes ages to flush. The issues are not just in the room but on the way to the room. It took us over 10mins to get to our room due to corridor doors playing up, so had to go back to reception which meant getting our key card changed. Lifts were out of order too which meant a lot of going up and down the stairs, not good particularly when my plus one guest has mobility issues. Second of all, the room was absolute FREEZING! Even the bathroom which was so uncomfortable to use. No AC or radiators in the room, it was much warmer to pick our ubereats outside then it was inside the room Rooms are looking old with stains and marks on décor and only 3 pillows for a double bed. A certain distinctive smell hits you straight away the moment you enter the room and another comes from the bathroom drains. Very slow service at reception during check-in, not professional. Honestly much better options available nearby, particularly the loft at the same price. The comfort of the bed was so bad, felt so cold that had to put coats on, this was in mid September, dread to know what the temps would be like in winter. No double glazing, and you can hear a lot of what is going on outside and neighbours too, could hear someone watching something either above or next to me The bathroom, the toilet takes like 5mins to flush, people can see you from outside, and the shower is a waste My back is still aching because i could not sleep due to the how cold the room is and noise. ALSO, to add, there was a hairclip left under the bed and hairs all around, bits of plastic, so room keeping aint that great! Main reason of visit was the use of the gym and swimming facilities but that was out of order, so a complete waste and to watch a movie and tv series off my device but hotel Wi-Fi was sooo slow and the TV was tiny! I even stated a big TV on further requests and received no messages about this Would have loved to complaint to a manager if one was available but no. Checked in around 11.30pm, left around 3.30am - awful experience

My booking was made through a third party however the hotel say they never received it which I find hard to believe. They had plenty of rooms available when I booked and the agent I use never sends me a confirmation (which I received) until the hotel has accepted the booking. I arrived only to be told that there was no booking made and that they couldn't accommodate me for my entire stay. One of the days had since had every room fully booked by one company, maybe it's just coincidence but it certainly felt like my booking had been conveniently 'lost' in order to accommodate this other firm. In the ensuing conversation the staff openly admitted (I'm guessing by accident) to regularly overbooking. I'll give full credit to the receptionist Stephanie for doing everything she could to accommodate me upon arrival, she even gave me a premium room, but when I tried to discuss the issue with the manager the next day all I got was a game of slopey shoulders; "Not our fault". I got the feeling he was just annoyed by my presence. There was another receptionist who I got really bad vibes from too, a proper 'computer says no' type. Essentially I got booted out half way through my stay. The rooms are extremely small and quality wise are no better than the average Travelodge or Premier Inn. The breakfast is great, truly great. Fantastic selection and lots of things made to order. On the flip side though the evening meals are poor and insanely expensive. Tiny portions combined with poorly cooked frozen ingredients in an effort to appear Michelin Star like but it's just bad. They wanted nearly £40 for a single frozen croquette, fish and chips and a slice of cake. For the price you pay, this hotel in my opinion is incredibly poor value for money. It's certainly not four star by any metric. Its only saving graces are Stephanie, Breakfast and Liam and his team at the bar who'll go well above and beyond to make you feel welcome. In all, I'd recommend avoiding.

The concierge was very helpful in guiding us over the phone to find the entrance. They Also advised about parking since our stay was during the Commonwealth Games. The rooms were of a good size with ample wardrobe space. The breakfast spread is fine and there's a nifty coffee machine too (Beware of the tiny cups. We had to come down with the mugs we had in the room to reduce taking many trips). The gym is in a separate building outside. The location is quite central with access to electric scooters, Tesco Express, a Costa and a Piri Piri place. There's an ESB Energy electric car charging station just outside with 2 Type-2 ports.

Good facilities and excellent food. The only difficulty that I found was navigating round the building, which can feel a little maze-like.

Could have been 5. Heating in rooms is noisy and smelly. Rooms very small esp chair to desk. Doors in corridors don’t unlock - need repairing
