Ok so I’m not one for judging a place by it’s reviews until I have been there myself BUT …….. wow ! It’s probably an unfair review as from what we saw the initial impression was exactly like some of the bad reviews we had read ! Check in was long but simple , the room was a basic option as we were only stopping one night , the room was clean and tidy with everything working except the soap dispensers as they were both empty. Breakfast was good and plentiful we didn’t have to wait for seating even at what was a busy time . The hotel is probably a victim of its location and as such caters for young party goers like stag/hen parties so into the later hours there will be noise and loud drunk people , as I said it’s due to the location .For £29 you cannot complain and we will most likely use it again in the near future .

Honestly speaking the hotel is alright if you're balling on a budget. However, I'm sorry the staffs working aren't getting paid enough if I'm being honest first class service across the board! Attentive, welcoming and patient. The hotel itself is somewhat disaster the smell of the corridors when you're going to your room makes you want to be sick completely. The location is very convenient however the noise level is beyond me. The room. Don't know who's smart idea was it to implement a wet room with limited towels provided get a better shower curtain or install glass panes or something. No hair dryer or iron in your rooms. I can see that they're trying their best to maintain the rooms as I smell fresh paint. Sleeping I mean other than the traffic noise which is expected due to its location. I did thought I'd be comfortable with the bed and the pillows well I guess not but you can't expect much from a budget 3 star hotel. I slept more comfy at B&Bs than I did there.

Apparently Death Valley is the hottest place on earth - I’ve been there and it doesn’t come close to how hot the rooms at the Travelodge Birmingham bull ring are. Of course, there’s no air con to speak of, but they do provide you with a plastic fan to blow some very hot air around. What’s that, open the window you say? Certainly! 5cm only though so there isn’t a single breeze getting through. Call up reception to see if there’s a spare room on a lower floor (maybe it’ll be cooler down there) - no, it’s first come first served, they’re being cleaned and they’re fully booked despite the fact you can book another room on their website. Make it make sense. Arrived a touch early and asked if I could leave my bag so I wouldn’t have to drag it about with me all day. No, of course you can’t. Would have been a one star but a lot of the staff were really lovely. Definitely better hotels in the area for the same price.

This travelodge continues to be the best experience. I am very happy, and completely impressed with the hard working, friendly staff here. The housekeeping staff work very hard, and never stop being the best. A very positive environment with people who show they really care about their jobs, and the impression it makes on me and my family. The food menu at this hotel is excellent, and food is done well. A pet friendly hotel that adds to the comfort of our stay. The experience is great enough to stop by for a visit in the future. Steve G.

Booked a Super Family Room with wife and my 2 kids, checked in to find they only have 1 double bed inside, went back down to reception and tell them about it, got moved to another Standard Family Room but nothing else was done. The only reply was, "We'll look into it..." Spent extra money on "Super" and got "Standard", waste of money and extremely unhappy. It's late at night after a long drive, so had to make do. Room faces the noisy part of town and extremely noisy even at 12am with windows closed. People shouting on the streets below, cars hooning around with loud exhaust. There are no parking spaces for the hotel, the recommended car park is quite full on weekends. Also, it's not very clean and extremely noisy with deafening music playing from the clubs next door. Update : Next morning, I had to head to reception again to express our concerns. Luckily, their Assistant Manager was at the desk, apparently the night staff didn't even bother to notify her about the situation, so we had to explain the whole story to her. Got refunded the difference of room charges and she promised to send us a voucher for next room booking in 2 weeks. Nothing more to say, just bad experience.

I've not stayed here yet, but do have come here several times for breakfast or a coffee. Nice food and the staff are amazing (very welcoming and polite), and sometimes they have given me a free coffee. I would recommend this place for breakfast or a coffee and it's all you can eat with good quality food too. 4*

Stayed here for a stag weekend. Good location with a 5min walk to Chinatown and 15min into Broad St. It's low priced and you get what you pay for. Our kettle was broken so when turned on it shorted all the plugs, this happened twice and the staff just said not to use the kettle rather than replace/fix it. Our bath plug was blocked so it filled with water when you showered which was pretty grim when sharing a room. The hot breakfast was good and the 50% off drinks happy hour is dangerous!

All great. Perfectly located for The German Christmas market and China Town. Spotless room, view was awful but not to worry, we had a Lavazza coffee machine and we liked the KitKat touch. Bed was comfy! The only downside was the bar only took cash! That's not necessary in this day and age! Breakfast was chaotic. Nobody seemed to know what they were doing. I asked three times just for a couple of sachets of brown sauce, in the meantime, my breakfast had gone cold. Not enough staff and not trained at all. The bathroom in reception was disgusting with overflowing bins and used toilet roll on the floor. Went to tell reception but there was nobody there.

Lovely warm welcome from Katie, the assistant manager. Room was clean, warm and spacious. The bed was extremely comfortable. There was everything I needed for my overnight stay. The room was very quiet, I didn't hear any noise from other guests or outside. Brilliant location to see a lovely city. I would recommend 100%.

The room was well prepared and very clean, all the facilities were in good working order. Friendly service from all staff who I interacted with. The only downsides would be the noise from the main road but I suppose there's not much you can do about that, The parking being off site was also a bit of a pain as the half price validation didn't seem to work.

The hotel location is good; you are just a short walk from the canal, train stations and bus stops. The double room is spacious (desktop, chair, and closet). Although we had a window facing a back patio which constantly smelled of weed, the big bed and the complimentary drinks (tea, coffee, milk) in the room compensated for the unpleasant odour. Apart from the polite receptionist lady, we didn't have contact with any other staff.

Stayed in Room 404. First time using a hotel ever as was visiting for a concert and I was not disappointed. Ideally located in the centre of Birmingham and only a stones throw away from major railway stations. The room was clean and well presented. Had some troubles and the staff were more than accommodating. Will be staying there again if ever in Birmingham, nice area too. (Worth noting a 24hr SPAR convenience shop is just next door which is very handy!)

My dad had booked this hotel for us under his details. Firstly they gave us a room with less beds but once we went to the reception they sorted that out which we were happy with but then the room that was given to us was a nightmare everything seemed fine but we could not sleep all night due to discomfort from the bedding or furniture. We had symptoms of itchiness and extreme discomfort and could not sleep all night. After our night we spoke to the reception again and they changed the room for us again and told us to email the team and get in touch regarding this, it's been almost 2 weeks now since my email but no one has got back to me. Please get in touch. The actual staff of the hotel very lovely and accommodating but I was not happy with the bedding etc that was causing great discomfort during my visit. Please investigate this further.

Really quick and easy check in. The lady on reception was extremely friendly and checked me into the best room that suited my needs, I asked for a quiet room and this is what I got. The hotel itself was clean and tidy, as was the room. I'd been put off Travelodge for such a long time from previous poor stays at other hotels. I booked here for the location and the price. It has put my faith back into Travelodge and I wouldn't hesitate in staying here again or recommending. 10/10.

Good position. The room was clean and quiet for its position. The bed was comfortable and the room was a good temperature. Really lovely friendly staff. Breakfast was good value and above average with lots to choose from. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Lovely modern hotel right by the bullring and Chinese quarter. I'm usually not a fan of a Travelodge but this ticked many boxes I needed. Check in was straight forward and quick. Advised there was no air con but fans in the room so did I want a lower floor or upper floor as the higher up, the warmer. Opted for lower. I was also advised key cards are temperamental. It took me many attempts to master this. Noticed a cleaner nearby and asked for help. I was just told to "try again". No help at all. On arrival to my floor, I noticed the smell of weed. Not sure where from but continued to smell it when looked outside my window to the patio area. Room is spacious and has everything I need, minus the iron which was supplied later for me. Although a lack of plug sockets was slightly traumatic for me. Bathroom basic but usable. Only one half toilet roll supplied and sink was full of dirty water. Plenty of fresh towels which was a blessing. Bed was clean and although a little squeaky when I moved, the mattress was very comfy and plenty of pillows. I ate and drank in the bar area which was the coolest place in the building. Food served quickly and not too badly priced. Was advised not to use the vending machine though for snacks as its not always working. I went out for the evening and came back and I heard a couple of doors closing but other than that, I pretty much slept all night. No disturbances. I would stay here again, I think the location is perfect for where I needed to be. There are a few things I feel need to be worked on and this would definitely got full marks from me.

Room was great and the location is wonderful but both the female receptionist and cleaner we absolutely no help I was a guest at the hotel and a colleague of mine which also is diabetic was in need of the restroom downstairs as he awaited me to come downstairs I was shocked and amazed to find out they refused for him to use the restroom. Both Females that was working today

The rooms are clean and of a good size. However the pillows were rock hard, so hard I didn't really sleep much. The room I got allocated was street-facing and so the traffic noise was loud in the morning and the market was very noisy before opening from people stocking up their shops from about 5am!

Very clean room and comfortable stay at this hotel. Breakfast in the morning was ok. I got to say all the staff at this hotel are fantastic, everyone I met from check in to check out was so friendly and helpful and that really made the stay for me. Small problem if you have a room on the street side like I did, was that a delivery was taken at 5.45am (not sure for what business) which woke me up, other people I know staying on the same side of the hotel also got woken by the noise. Not the hotels fault nor do I think there's anything they could have done about it.

Very impressed! Rooms clean, all smells lovely and fresh. Booked family room for 4 and all beds comfy and ready on arrival. Room on family floor so no disturbing noises during the night. Fantastic breakfast - full English, pancakes croissants etc! Service was fantastic, very impressed all staff welcoming and organised - 5 star service! Thank you

It's a travelodge so very much as you expect - clean, room very standard but in good condition overall, team bright and helpful but TV kept turning itself off and the water was lukewarm when having a shower at 8:30 in the morning. Not sure how the price jumped from £40 the day before to £128 on the day guess that my mistake but boy that's a big jump in price. Great location to see the City centre and if you park in the Arcade car park overnight there is a discount.

Basic room but great views and helpful staff. We came as a group of 6 for a local event on a Friday. We stopped for dinner which was, although not fancy, better than expected! Staff were attentive and friendly at every stage. Salma and her colleagues were great. The rooms on the eighth floor are especially good as they are further from any street noise.

Not a great room. Stinks of damp. Location is somewhat near New Street but still somehow feels far away. In terms of soft finishings, lighting is harsh and overall feels highly basic. Overall given the damp smell and basic feeling of the room, this is definitely punching above its weight, 2 star at best.

Good value for money. The room was clean and comfortable. Excellent location for shopping, restaurants and train station. They were friendly and helpful. When I checked in, the receptionist explained that they had put a fan in the room because it can get a bit hot in there.

  • 1/5 Marc K. 1 year ago on Google
The security door in the entrance is just propped open allowing anyone, even if they are not a guest, access to the rooms. Ended up with someone up on the 7th floor blasting music and hammering on doors at 11pm. Happened to both my room and my friends next door, leaving her young daughter petrified! Rooms are also incredibly hot and the general soundproofing could be better.

Close to Bullring shopping centre, New Streer Station, & shops. Very comfortable bed, great view, clean room, easy to use shower, friendly staff, heating easy to use. Friendly security evening staff. Pizza available after most food shops had closed. Brilliant, varied breakfast.

So... I have a previous experience with Travelodge which is quite good... Now this time has been quite disappointing. A 24/7 bar which was promised at check in was ignored at 2am. Now I understand that a bar would be open during peak hours... But this was NOT what was promised. A 24/hour bar is a bar which is open 24/hours per day. NOT the busiest periods. DON'T PROMISE SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO FOLLOW UP WITH.

The post departure follow up is appalling at this hotel. The parking was stated as being refunded by 50%. We parked at the stated address for the car park as per the advertisement and informed the desk each time. Upon departure were not allocated the discount and upon follow up asked to produce receipts regardless of the fact that the desk had logged each stay. Sent bank statement in as proof. Then asked to re send this as they lost the statement. Then Months went by different people sending messages saying eventually that we parked at wrong car park as payments were taken by euro car park. Informed them this is correct car park and only payments were taken by this company. Nobody has any idea what they are doing, pathetic very poor communications different people randomly responding without knowledge of the facts when the get round to it. For such a named hotel chain very disappointed in the service cannot call anyone charged higher rate, nobody calls you back. Terrible all round.

Stayed here Sunday night (20/11/22) and the person working reception (I think your name was Soohaib?? I’m so sorry I can’t remember!) was so so lovely and accommodating. Excellent service and such a great guy. Even brought our food up to our room for us! Definitely would stay here again, hopefully when he is working too!

Really friendly staff. They couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful. Easy access from both Moor St and New St stations. I was amazed at how quiet it was at night considering the central location. Rooms were fairly clean, but not spotless. We arrived at half 11, so the 24hr check in is excellent.

  • 4/5 Steve W. 1 year ago on Google
This hotel is set withing walking distance of the centre of Birmingham and has all the facilities that you would expect in the room. The buffet breakfast was tasty and all the staff were very friendly and tried to accommodate any request. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short stay.

  • 5/5 Ally M. 1 year ago on Google
Pleasant staff, easy check in and check out and a comfy bed. Staff were happy to provide extra coffees at both cleaning time and reception as I didn't wanna ask for the room to be refreshed when I only needed coffee, which is exactly like when I was here pre-covid. Very glad I picked the same hotel again and have already booked here for my next trip! Just a heads up that the room can get quite warm in the summer so use your fan or have the window open. Also, if you're here on a Tuesday night, fair warning the church bells go on for over an hour around 19:45.

First time staying in a Travelodge hotel and also the last! Room smelt like a mix of weed, feet and B.O! Walls made out of paper, so you could hear everything! Only provided with enough towels for 1 person, even though booked for 2 guests. Bathroom had a step which was a big tripping hazard... Plus, it's about the size of a shoebox! The bathroom tap broke multiple times and sprayed water everywhere. The middle lift was temperamental and at one point thought it had broken down with us in it. But the main issue was the noise and lack of sleep! There was a vehicle working through the night, rattling metal and beeping. Doors slamming constantly through the night. Multiple drunk guests stumbling down corridors shouting. At 3am, someone was having a fight and screaming in the corridor. The drunk guests continued to arrive back until 5am! 1 hours sleep, if that, before we were woken by someone holding phone conversations outside our room and slamming doors again. The 1 rating is for the comfortable pillow and mattress...shame I didn't get the benefit from them though!!

Stayed here overnight as we had tickets for the theatre. The location is good, close to the Bullring and right next to Chinatown. Sadly that's everything positive about this place. The reception desk staff came across rude and unhelpful. When I asked a question about the parking (at Arcadian) I was met with sarcasm. There were smokers constantly at the hotel entrance. Our room was dark and didn't feel clean. There were stains on the carpet and walls and an odd smell. The shower had poor water pressure and the position of the toilet next to the door leaves you feeling quite cramped. God help you if you're anything over a size medium. When we returned from our evening out, the reception staff wouldn't open the entrance door for us (the same staff that checked us in!) Instead gesturing to use our key card. The worst part was that there was constant noise throughout the night from the site opposite. When we mentioned this the next morning the staff acted surprised and we were told that we should have asked for a 'quiet' room. Seriously!?! The breakfast here is just terrible. Items either cold and stale or cooked to death. At almost £9 a pop you're better off finding a local cafe. Safe to say I won't ever be staying here again. This place puts the Travelodge brand to shame. I'm sure there are plenty of other, better places to stay in Birmingham.

They are literally impossible to get a hold of, through the phone and through email. My friends and I stayed for a couple of nights for her hen do. We asked if they would decorate the room and they said they would if we sent the decorations. I just wanted to call to see if the decorations had been received, but after calling over multiple occasions at different times I managed to rack up a phone bill of £22 just trying to get hold of them as they charge 73p per minute. The decorations were nice though, it made my friends day so thank you to whoever did that!

Stayed here on 9/3/22 for one night. Booking in was quick and done in a very friendly and informative manner. Room was spotless, very comfy bed. Had the unlimited breakfast on leaving day, that too was good and tasty, staff were regularly refilling items and cleaning surfaces. Really enjoyed the stay, so much so that when I go to Birmingham again in August for a night out will definitely book to stay here again.

It is the best hotel I’ve ever been to. Me and my family booked 2 nights but could only got to one because of the storm and the staff booked us in and gave us a big welcome when we got there. Amazing and kind staff, lovely rooms and good food. Couldn’t have asked for more, definitely recommend coming here :)

Went here for a hen weekend and the staff were really lovely. Rooms were very spacious more than enough room for three. All the 16 of us agreed that the rooms were good. You could hear traffic throughout the night though. Breakfast was average but plenty of it. Would stay again.

Fantastic place, nice clean room, very nice feel to the place. I feel like at the time I checked in they were a little understaffed as I only saw one member of staff doing everything, she checked me in and later when I needed toilet paper she came running up with it. Staff appear to be very friendly, welcoming and professional though, enjoyed my stay here and will look forward to staying here again the next time I'm in Birmingham. I only rated 4 stars as I feel like having toilet paper in rooms during the turn down service would be essential and after having a long coach journey in to the city is quite needed.
