The
vibe
inside
The
Gateway
To
India
is
conflicting.
Is
it
trying
to
be
a
lounge
bar,
given
the
selection
of
tunes?
Is
it
trying
to
be
one
of
the
new-age
street
food
venues,
given
the
newspaper
clippings?
Or
is
it
trying
to
don
its
Sunday
best
and
try
a
dab
of
fine
dining?
And
what’s
with
the
comfortable
brown
booths?
It
sits
firmly
on
the
fence
like
a
sleeping
wood
pigeon.
What
it
does
do
well
is
get
food
to
the
table
with
a
presentable
charm.
The
staff
are
great;
the
manager
educated
me
in
Sikhism,
which
was
awesome.
He
and
his
assistant
were
perceptive
and
cared
about
what
I
thought
of
the
dishes.
The
Gateway
To
India
at
least
tries
something
new
in
the
saturated
arena
of
Indian
Cuisine
Restaurants.
It
just
needs
to
choose
a
path.
