The institute is a great venue to catch those up and coming bands before they hit the bigger venues. Great view from all areas but the seating on the balcony is just a padded bench. This isn't an issue for us, but if you had a back issue or struggle to sit for long periods, this is not the area for you to sit. Staff are great, security are spot on and helpful. Loved the place!

Fantastic venue, nice and small for brilliant intimate performances. Teddy swims was amazing. Only con was that they didn't make clear what line was for which concert. Other than that, was amazing!!

I have attended this venue many times over the years, and Institute 3 is the smallest of the 3 levels, as a result, it is the most intimate. An ideal setting to launch "Blue nations" new EP "Echos" Due to technical issues, the gig started a little later that intended, but, that did not dampen the experience one bit. The staff were excellent and the layout superb.

Great venue for live music, small enough that even at the back you get good views and vibes. Their beer is next-level expensive so arrange an overdraft before attending.

Decent venue, good acoustics. Could use a lick of paint. Sat up on upper balcony, good views. Beer was £7.50 a pint...a bit steep really. Staff and security all very friendly.

A brilliant venue. As a wheelchair user I was treated fantastic, they couldn’t do enough for me and came to tell me that they would get me drinks and merch ect. Highly recommend

We had an amazing night here, special shout out to Jaki on security. She absolutely made our night, my partner has mobility issues and she made sure all our group could stay together and made sure we were looked after all night. She is an absolute star 🌟

There is a whole lot of construction going on around the area but it didn't impact our experience. Great venue, and it's well managed. Security onsite was extremely friendly and helpful.

Love this venue, it's easy to walk to from New Street train station. We like the small intimate feel of the venue, and if you want to sit down, there is the balcony. Recently went to see Future Islands, well organised and brilliant concert.

Never been before and wasn't expecting it to be so small. Like a trip back to the 90's with sticky floors and boxy seats. Loved it. Great to see an act in such a small venue.

First of all don't confuse this place with the O2 academy. Momentary lapse of Google maps concentration and I ended up at the wrong venue to begin with. Own fault there! Now to the real O2 institute. Wicked little place for gigs. Went to see Less Than Jake. Awesome sound system. Bars either side. Very impressed with the venue.

Great venue, small enough to feel intimate but still feel like a packed house. Box office staff were really helpful on the day of the show to accommodate for a change in circumstances that required us to switch ticket types.

Great venue, I'd not realised that to access the disabled area that you have to email the venue in advance. For this, the disabled section was full, yet the staff still catered to my needs by letting me have a stool in the standing area, so i spent the night propped up against the bar (huge plus). The drinks were a little pricey, the venue was clean, and plenty of checks were done before entering, so i felt safe. Security is on the ball, and toilet access was easy. Overall, it was a fantastic night in a great place.

Although the sound is great. Purchased seating tickets and the venue had evidently oversold the show. So despite signs saying to remain seated and not to block the walkways. I not only didn't get to sit for the show I was 2 behind people stood in the walkways and could not see for the entire show.

My favourite venue in Birmingham for gigs - friendly and helpful staff, great views and superb sound quality. Embrace were brilliant tonight, a proper trip down memory lane for the 25th Anniversary of The Good Will Out.

Disability access was really good for my wife in her electric wheelchair. Staff were very helpful and friendly. 10/10 will definitely be visiting again knowing how easy it was from start to finish.

Got tickets to see Little Man Tate at the venue. It was easy to get to and the crowd control was really good with the staff being friendly and helpful. The venue is very charming with all the old features intact. The bar prices are the usual for these types of venue. There is also a cloak room that charges £4 per item.

Saw thy art is murder there, very polite and hardworking security, giving us free cups of water during intermissions. Saw people crowd surfing but got back safely. Would reccomend again

Been to a few concerts here now and every time has been brilliant! The staff/security have been very friendly and organised. Good selection of booze at the bars too!

Went to watch Dylan perform, great location, near the train station, restaurants, and shops :) Security was efficient queues went down quickly. Bar is very expensive and only accepts cards no cash, make sure you have a bank card! Venu is compact, but cosy and the ambuiance was fantastic. balcony seating was fab, and there's nowhere really I felt was a rubbish place to be. Both balconies had space.

Awesome atmosphere. Spiritbox, Loathe & Brand of Sacrifice were amazing. Perhaps the venue could have been larger as it was absolutely packed out, but not the o2's fault!

Love this old music hall, I have been many times and it has a really good vibe. Seating on the balcony is limited so get there early or you're standing anyway. It is in an area of regeneration so particularly run down in it's surroundings. Easy parking just around the corner and walking distance from the city centre.

Great experience here seeing Karnivool and The Ocean Collective last night. Getting in via the O2 priority queue was a breeze. Quick search and ticket scan and we were in the crowd in about 2 minutes. Fantastic sound, toilets were fairly clean (seen much worse) and service at the bar was prompt. I saw a man pull his partner out of the crowd unconscious during the set and the security helped him move her through the fire escape and his colleagues assisted which was great to see. They sought further help. They look after you here My biggest gripe involves the beer prices. I genuinely can’t believe a pint of shipyard costs £7.50. Basically daylight robbery. For this reason we had a couple here and grabbed some beverages for the hotel. They need to work on that because it’s disgraceful. They lose a star.

I went to see the amazing Lucy Spraggan who was AMAZING and i loved it...but, we got balcony tickets- there was no seating which wasn't clear when we booked and the floor is all on the level so EVERYONE behind the first people couldn't see- only snippets when people moved there head etc, plus there was a huge pole thing in front of us. honestly, if it wasn't Lucy, i would have walked out. The TEAM however, were amazing, there were (at least) two emergencies during the concert (it was very hot ) and they were quick to help and organise everyone...the seating looked fine, and standing- just, avoid balcony, especially if you are short. I am 5 foot 7 and struggled to see the stage and i was only behind one line of not very tall people, i don't know how it is meant to work, so disappointing. There is a subway right next door and is easy to find, although some people got it mixed up with the 02 academy and had to run over town!

This is a great music venue. The balcony could do with a bit more seating but the place is run well with attentive staff, a quick bar and a good system for getting out quickly at the end of the night!

Great venue, with a convenient bar in the balcony area. One criticism is that (having a back injury) I booked in the balcony because it was listed as a seated area. We understood an "unreserved seating" ticket to mean that everyone was seated but not in reserved seats. It turns out that there were nowhere near enough seats for everyone and many of us were left standing (even though we arrived quite soon after 'doors'). Gig caused me a great deal of pain. They should sell the balcony tickets as "unreserved seating and standing" to make it clear that not everyone will have a seat.

This was a great place for an intimate gig, whether standing or in the balcony you are not far from the performing artist! I went to watch James Bay, he was awesome, would definitely go back to watch him. The venue itself was good, I queued for 45 mins outside before the doors opened, there is a bag restriction policy so check that out. My tickets were unreserved seating in the lower balcony, which were basic padded benches separated by a set of steps - nowhere near enough seats for everyone to go round, so it’s first come first served, or you’re standing around the outside of the balcony area near the bars! Good acoustics and lighting, if you get a seat you’re not allowed to stand up to dance. Drinks at the bar weren’t cheap, £6.50 for 2 Pepsi’s, £6 per pint. There is no car parking at the venue itself but there are plenty of car parks nearby, Digbeth coach station is just across the road, Moor St train station is a 10-15 min walk away.

Great venue. Old school theatre style and perfect for an intimate gig for artists who can comfortably sell 600/700 tickets.
