The
Ceiba
Hotel
is
a
decent
hotel
for
a
country
such
as
Guinea
Bissau.
Room
quality,
bed
&
beddings,
bathroom
fixtures
&
fittings
are
all
good
quality.
It
is
by
no
means
a
5*
hotel
such
as
a
Sofitel,
Intercon
or
Sheraton,
but
perhaps
more
comparable
to
a
European
3*
or
perhaps
even
a
very
basic
4*
hotel.
The
rooms
are
cleaned
very
well
and
the
cleaning
staff
are
very
honest.
There
is
no
concern
of
theft
from
the
rooms,
which
can
occasionally
be
an
issue
when
travelling
certain
developing
countries.
As
a
global
business/engineering
traveler,
travelling
approx
9
months
a
year,
quality
customer
service
at
any
hotel
is
paramount.
Especially
when
i
am
a
long
term
guest.
I
have
stayed
in
this
particular
hotel
for
approx
5
months
in
total.
4-5
weeks
at
a
time
since
Feb
2019.
My
findings
are
that
generally
the
staff
in
the
hotel
are
fairly
poorly
trained.
Any
simple
request
out
of
the
norm
is
usually
impossibly
difficult
for
the
staff
to
action
immediately,
without
rising
up
the
chain
of
command
for
approval.
A
management
style
'managed
through
fear'
seems
to
be
employed
in
this
hotel.
This
makes
simple
decision
making
by
the
hotel
staff
impossible
and
ends
up
providing
a
terrible
customer
service
experience
for
guests.
I
have
had
innumerable
frustrating
encounters
with
reception
staff
here
over
the
years.
All
could've
been
avoided
if
staff
were
trained
correctly
and
perhaps
had
a
carte
blanche
from
the
management
to
approve
simple
'out
of
the
norm'
requests.
That
said,
certain
reception
staff,
namely
Daniela
and
Binta
are
the
exception!
These
two
girls
have
very
good
customer
service
skills,
and
to
put
it
frankly,
if
it
wasn't
for
these
two
providing
for
my
needs,
i
would
have
long
departed
to
an
alternative
accommodation.
(Daniela
and
Binta,
if
you
are
reading
this,
THANK
YOU)
The
restaurant
at
the
hotel
is
a
joke
(Bioko).
The
food
is
absolutely
appalling
with
a
service
to
match.
I
don't
have
the
energy
to
comment
on
this,
but
it's
a
comedy
circus
one
has
to
experience
themselves,
just
so
you
can
tell
the
story
to
friends
and
family
when
you
get
home.
A
major
failure
of
the
hotel
is
the
opening
time
of
the
restaurant
in
the
morning.
7AM,
not
a
second
earlier!!!
The
staff
have
the
look
of
fear
in
their
eyes
if
you
dare
come
near
the
restaurant
front
door
prior
to
7AM.
They
will
not
and
cannot
let
you
in!?!?!?
Believe
me,
this
has
been
a
thorn
in
my
side
for
all
the
time
i
have
been
here.
When
i
am
in
Bissau,
i
regularly
have
to
depart
the
hotel
very
early
in
the
morning
to
travel
to
work.
The
hotel
will
allow
you
to
come
into
the
restaurant
prior
to
7am,
but
only
if
you
have
pre-arranged
it
with
the
hotel
manager
the
night
before.
In
this
scenario
you
have
to
order
your
breakfast
the
night
before,
and
they
will
prepare
it
for
you
the
night
before.
This
means
the
breakfast
you
are
presented
with
in
the
morning
is
not
exactly
fresh!
Even
if
the
buffet
is
ready
and
displayed
by
6.15am,
my
pre-prepared
breakfast
will
be
provided
to
me
and
i
will
not
be
allowed
to
eat
from
the
freshly
made
buffet,
even
though
it
is
ready!?!?
A
logic
presented
to
me
by
the
hotel
manager
(Rosa).
I
quote
'the
buffet
has
to
look
perfect
for
the
first
guest'.
BUT
I
AM
THE
FIRST
GUEST!!!
Also
note,
as
a
long
term
guest,
have
i
ever
been
given
a
free
upgrade,
a
free
coffee,
water
or
a
soft
drink.
Never!
When
i
stay
in
the
Sofitel
or
the
Sheraton
or
any
other
international
hotel
for
any
length
of
time,
they
put
me
in
a
luxury
suite
with
a
service
to
match.
This
place
has
a
lot
to
learn.
Lack
of
care
from
the
management
i
suppose.
All
that
said,
there
is
no
better
place
to
stay
in
Bissau
than
the
Ceiba
hotel.
I'll
be
back
next
year.
I
hope
some
of
my
comments
would've
been
considered
and
changes
implemented
upon
my
return.
Somehow,
i
have
my
doubts.
