It is located at the top of the hill of the same name next to the castle of Sant Joan, of which it was the chapel but due to lack of space it had to be located outside the enclosure. For Saint John it is called mass. It appears documented as early as the 13th century and in 1377 it is recorded that there was a priest in the castle who took care of it. During the 17th century it was a pilgrimage center for the day of Saint John the Baptist. In 1959 a restoration was carried out in which the roof was redone and the white artist Maria Teresa Bedós painted the frescoes inside. In 1991 it was restored again with the rehabilitation of the castle. It is a work included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

I have never been able to enter the hermitage, I have always found it closed and I have had to see it from the outside. My photos of the interior of this hermitage have been taken through the stained glass windows of the door. Even if you can't go in, it is worth going up, from there there are wonderful views of the entire Villa de Blanes.

Sat 1 Apr 23. It is next to the castle and has the same magnificent view. It's only open on Sunday mornings, but you can see the interior well from the glass door (it has some paintings by Pilarín Bayés).

The hermitage is located at the top of the Sant Joan hill, next to the castle of the same name. Documentary references have been found about it from the 13th century, and there is evidence that in the year 1377 a priest lived in the castle who took care of it. In the 17th century, it was a pilgrimage center on the day of Sant Joan Baptista. In 1959, a restoration was carried out in which the roof was redone and the white artist and illustrator Maria Teresa Bedós painted the frescoes inside. From the hermitage there are beautiful views, it is worth approaching and if you are lucky to see the inside of the hermitage, it is beautiful. About 1.7km away there is a beautiful Marimurtra Botanical Garden worth visiting.

Saint John's chapel Ermita de Sant Joan de Blanes Carrer Cardenal Vidal i Barraquer, 2, 17300 Blanes, Girona Ermita de Sant Joan de Blanes is a church in the city of Blanes (Selva). It is located on the top of the hill of the same name, next to the Castle of Sant Joan, of which it is a chapel, but due to lack of space it had to be located outside the castle walls. It seems to have been recorded as early as the 13th century, and in 1377 it is recorded that there was a priest at the castle who looked after it. In the 17th century it was a center of pilgrimage in the time of St. John the Baptist. It was restored in 1959, the roof was redone and the artist Maria Teresa Bedós from Blanca painted the interior murals. It was restored again in 1991, following the restoration of the castle. In the second half of the 13th century, on the hill of Sant Joan, there was a fortified chapel dedicated to Sant Joan the Baptist. This chapel was built by order of the Grau de Cabrera in the mid-13th century. Its function is clear: it is the castle chapel, built outside the walls due to lack of internal space. The couple Guillem and Guillema Maria, lords of Blanes, established a foundation there, collecting £350 for the maintenance of the cult. The chapel contained the relics of St. John the Baptist and his image, which were later transferred to the altar of Our Lady of the Parish Church, containing a gilded wooden urn, visited by many residents. Its current appearance, form or landscape is the result of many reforms and reshapings throughout the 20th century. Some of these restoration measures are perfectly documented, since on the inner face of the north facade we found a plaque recording the renovation of the monastery in 1900.

(Translated by Google) From the rodalis stop you have to continue to Blanes or by bus (recommended), or continue on foot for about 4km. Once you arrive at the Bay you have to go up to the highest part of the town where the Ermita is clearly visible. Meta Consigliata
