It's
complicated
to
describe
this
experience
without
only
using
superlatives,
without
sounding
overexcited.
But
fact
is,
we
ARE
excited
to
have
found
this
diamond
in
the
pile
of
Blankenberge.
The
garlic
mussels
with
cream
are
a
piece
of
art.
But
let's
not
get
ahead
of
ourselves,
the
kitchen
sent
an
amuse-gueule:
a
fresh
bun,
local
Flemish
butter,
pork
rillette,
and
olives.
How
on
earth
can
butter
be
so
tasty?
It
was
valid
competition
to
the
phenomenal
rillette,
both
would've
been
a
perfect
start
just
on
their
own.
Together,
they
were
a
quite
descriptive
hint
at
what
was
to
come.
Quick
digression,
the
ambience:
Perfectly
styled
like
a
high-end
establishment
in
the
middle
of
Paris
[but
clean
and
less
smelly
;-)
],
Brasserie
José
has
the
most
sensational
soundtrack
for
a
beautiful
evening.
I'll
eat
a
shoe
if
the
owner
doesn't
play
an
instrument.
His
playlist
included
JJ
Cale,
Satchmo,
Tom
Waits,
Madeleine
Peroux,
everything
beautiful
from
blues,
to
jazz,
even
a
bit
of
folk
sprinkled
in.
Maybe
the
Dylan
wallpaper
could've
been
a
hint...
Here
comes
a
little
confession:
I've
had
Moules
Frite
the
weeks
before,
in
Gent,
four
f*cking
times.
Parkhuis
is
the
best
spot
in
my
humble
opinion.
THAT
SAID,
Brasserie
José
didn't
only
win
the
game,
they
play
a
different
sport.
The
fries
are
the
platonic
ideal
of
fries,
they
are
nothing
short
of
perfect;
inside
creamy
and
outside
crispy.
Best
fries
I
had
in
Belgium
and
therefore,
in
my
life.
Maybe
it's
cheating
to
put
garlic
and
cream
in
the
mussels
but
I'm
not
a
referee.
Tender,
well-seasoned,
I
did
not
have
a
single
one
with
an
off-taste,
the
portion
size
was
huge
and
the
taste
spectacular.
I
could
not
wipe
the
smile
off
my
face
for
almost
two
hours.
Service
is
not
only
quick
and
observant,
the
guys
in
there
are
stylish
and
cool,
professional
and
friendly,
speak
several
languages
and
make
you
feel
more
than
welcome.
This
was
one
of
the
nicest
fine
but
casual
dining
experiences
we
had
in
a
long
time,
extraordinary.
100%
recommendation,
this
is
a
gem.
Spectacular.
