This
paravang
is
a
windbreak
with
benches
from
1908,
with
a
view
of
the
marina
and
the
Leopold
Park.
The
name
comes
from
the
French
'paravent'
(windbreak).
This
graceful
neo-Gothic
building
from
the
Belle
Époque
period
looks
a
bit
oriental
and
is
reminiscent
of
the
time
when
the
seaside
resort
was
still
visited
by
the
'affluent'
class
-
you
can
see
the
atmosphere
of
that
period.
The
roof
shines
in
the
sun,
and
when
I
get
close
I
see
that
it
is
all
glazed
roof
tiles.
But...
unfortunately
this
beautiful
Art
Nouveau
element
has
been
scandalously
neglected.
A
few
more
years
without
maintenance,
and
there
will
be
nothing
left.
The
metal
parts
are
already
so
affected
by
rust
that
a
simple
paint
job
is
no
longer
sufficient.
According
to
Wikipedia,
the
paravang
was
completely
restored
in
2002.
I
also
painted
my
house
that
year,
but
that
really
had
to
be
done
again
every
few
years!
No,
Zeebrugge,
I
would
just
leave
out
placing
a
photo
on
the
brochures
to
attract
tourists
to
the
paravang.....
