Fantastic 4 hrs of piecing together part of our history. Congratulations to the curators because you found a great job. I'll go back to visit the civilian aircraft section next visit. Good cafe/ restaurant facilities were pleasant too. Thanks for an enlightening afternoon. Tony

I can't single out a reason for why I love this place. I might be biased, as I went to technical school at the east end of the building, and helped out with aircraft restoration at their workshop for two years. They have a wondeful collection of civilian and military aircraft. The museum is split into two parts, one run by the norwegian military museum department, and the other organized by civilians. It tells the story of norwegian aviation, but for international visitors it can be a difficult visit without a guide. Most of the exhibit explanations are in either norwegian or english.

You can spend hours here. Lots to learn and see. They have both a military section aswell as a civil section. Both sections focus on airplanes and aviation in general. You must go here if you are in Bodø.

Fantastic museum , very good history of aviation from the first flight , the two world wars and contribution of aviation to the growth of Norway 🇳🇴. The different aircraft displayed and the equipment both civilian and military was fantastic

I would recommend you leave at least half a day to fully explore this fantastic attraction in Bodø. It is full of interesting items - staff are super help full and friendly - and so knowledgeable- there is a real sense of pride in the work they do and the information they pass on.

Very impressive museum with a great collection of aircraft, all thoughtfully presented. Nice cafe too! Lots to interest enthusiasts with historic and modern, civil, and military exhibits. There is plenty of interactive displays to keep kids happy, including a giant table of Lego. Highly recommended!

From an American point of view I thought this was an excellent museum. Clean, open, many of the exhibits were in several languages. It will take about 2 hours to see it thoroughly. From an aviation enthusiast point of view it was great to see that all aviation was celebrated and not just the Norwegian history, though that was obviously emphasized. Great history, cool museum. The control tower was fun too.

One of the best museums I've ever seen, which will be interesting for adults and kids, who can play and even do some experiments. I wish I could visit it few more times after reading the relevant history books. My great respect to the founders of this museum.

An excellent museum!! Many very good displays with multiple languages on most every item. Very comprehensive displays and well organized. They’ve separated the military from civilian displays and it works very well. Some excellent aircraft including Spitfire, Hurricane, and Mosquito. 60’s Twin Otter is very nice. Some Great areas for kids to play. An excellent cafe where you get good food, large portions and the lowest price in town for a meal. Military discount if you ask. Highly recommend this as a full day activity.

Excellent museum! I was so surprised to find this amazing museum during a short stay here. As an aviation professional I always seek out aviation museums but I had no idea this one was here and it was SO well done. Great history of aviation in Norway both civil and military. Loved it and extremely well curated. Worth the trip!

A wonderful day spent looking at Commercial and Military airplanes, exhibitions and heaps of photos and history. Museum is filled with things to see and read about. Hands on activities for children are also available.

  • 5/5 Duarte M. 4 years ago on Google
This is definitely one of the best aviation museums that I visited. The exhibitions are superbly set up so that you get a sense of the norwegian aviation history. There are no lines between the visitor and the aircraft on display so you can get real close and examine the thin leading edge of the F-104 or the sleek bulkiness of the Fw-190. The museum achives a perfect balance between exhibitions and visitor interaction. You can even sit in the cockpit of the Starfighter! This is done at a designated time under the wachtfull eye of a very friendly staff member. The civilian exhibition is a bit smaller but not less exciting. The Ju-52 on floats and the first dhc-6 to fly with wideroe are my favorites.

(Translated by Google) The photos were taken in August 2020. The aviation museum contains such a rich and interesting exhibition that it is worth coming to Bodø for it. You can reserve a half-day for sightseeing, and for aviation and military enthusiasts, probably a full day. This is the only museum of its kind in Norway. It is located on the premises of the old airport, so you can visit a real control tower with old navigation and measuring instruments. In addition, the tower offers a beautiful landscape of the surrounding area, against the backdrop of the mountains and the fjord. The museum is divided into 2 exhibition halls for visiting and a control tower. Boys and men will probably be more interested in the military section on the left side of the entrance. On the right, however, there is the entrance to the civil aviation hall, where, in addition to visiting a large exhibition of historical aircraft, you can also enter one of them. In front of this room there is an entrance upstairs to the control tower. Directions: The museum is very well signposted (Luftfartmuseet) as soon as you enter Bodø. Exit to the parking lot in front of the museum may be a problem because the indicator is on the left side of the road and is invisible in the sun. Therefore, when passing under the control tower, turn into the first street on the right. Parking: Parking is large paid. You can find a spot in the shade. To jedyne muzeum w swoim rodzaju w Norwegii.

Really, really good exhibits and aircraft examples. I could have used a little bit more text in English, or translations of the technical specifications, but I'm visiting another country and am sadly monolingual so I really shouldn't complain.

Lots to see and very well presented. The exhibits are "gleaming" and well laid out. Loads of history about Norwegian aviation, World War 2 invasion and about individual people and aircraft. Nice waffles in the café too.

Excellent museum, with lots to see and do for adults and children. Combines war history, technology, polar exploration, role of women in early aviation, and civil aviation then & now into a package that nicely suits a full rainy afternoon in Bodø.

Didn't have enough time to see and experience everything; definitely requires another visit! Fun and challenging games for kids and they even have a Links Trainer from WW2 (although only on display, not functioning)

Really nice museum. Helpfull staff and loads of great planes. There's even an interactive corner where both young and old can test their flying skills/reflexes

Absolutely awesome you can learn a LOT about history and the planes. There even is a whole spy plane inside the military part. As for the civil part you are able to learn and admire the planes from the first object in the air to mass casualty crashes your brain will be satisfied with the variety of plains, facts, history and reality that this museum presents. I as a history lover was able to spend almost 4 hours in there.

I recently visited the aviation museum in Bodø and was blown away by the sheer number of planes and displays on offer. The military section of the museum was particularly interesting, with several rooms filled with real planes that have played a significant role in the history of Norwegian aviation. There were also plenty of displays showcasing plane engines and other aircraft components, along with informative explanations about how they work. The civil aviation section of the museum was equally impressive, with a wide variety of planes on display ranging from small private planes to larger commercial airliners. There were also several interactive exhibits that provided a deeper understanding of the science behind flight. While the museum was a bit pricey, I found it to be well worth the cost. The 2-3 hour tour gave me plenty of time to explore all the exhibits and learn more about the rich history of aviation in Norway. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the aviation museum in Bodø for anyone with an interest in planes and aviation.

The museum offers a big collection of aviation history, I was really surprised to find such a gem here! Sadly they did some work on the public aviation part so we couldn't see much of that, but we wouldn't have had time anyway since the military part had us occupied until they closed. We were there for about three hours and we couldn't see everything we wanted so I'd suggest getting there early enough. One big plus which I didn't see in many other museums is that you can touch many of the pieces at display, which in my opinion adds a lot to the experience.

Amazing aviation museum with history of Norwegian aviation. Can’t recommend enough, but be prepared that you need to spend a lot of hours here. (For us 3 hours was enough only for the military part.)
