One of the Very Ancient Shiva Temple Near Bhoramdev Temple.. From Chairagaon village, a road leads left to another smaller Shiva temple, popularly known as the Mandwa Mahal. As per My Studies, It was built in 1349 AD to commemorate the marriage of the Nagavanshi ruler, Ramachandra with the Haihaya princess, Ambika Devi. So, while visiting Bhoramdev Temple please take a short and sweet ride to this Place also..Not Too Much to discover but some Natural Shadows to Enjoy..

Actually, this is a Shiva temple and is situated in the south of Bhoramdeo temple at a distance of 1 km. It has the ‘Garbhagriha’ and ‘Mandapa’. This old temple is called mandwa Mahal. In local dialect and even in Chhattisgarhi language a word Mandapa is called Mandwa or Madwa. That is why this mahal is called Mandwa Mahal. The Mandapa is based upon 16 stone built pillars. It faces the east direction. The outer wall of Garbhagriha is decorated with erotic sculptures. The mandapa is now renovated. However, the upper shikhar [top] part is broken which is under renovation. This monument was built by Ambika Devi, a queen of Phanivamshi King named Ramchandra in 15th cent. A.D. This temple is a good example of the temples built in the period of Nagavamshi rulers bearing influence of tantric cult. source: cgculture.in

Surrounded by hills around with thick forest, this age old temple of Lord Shiva. Carved stones of this temple are full of stories in stones. Various sexual postures are explicit on the stone wall carvings. Must visit and must see these stone stories to know the centuries old art form of India. What a marvelous place to be. Pride of Chhattisgarh. कैसे थे वे लोग, कैसी थी वे सभ्यताएं, जीवन के मायने तलाशती ये मूर्तियाँ देखनेवालों से सम्वाद स्थापित करती है !! If you have time, come and communicate with them in your leisure time !!

Madwa Mahal a Shiva temple. In view of marriages, it is known as "Madwa Mahal". It is also called Dulhadeo. (Nagwanshi's Ramchandra Deo had built it in 1349 A.D.). The 'Garbha Gudi' and the 'Mandap rests upon 16 pillars'. The achitectural idols on the walls of this temple are also extermely beautiful and said to be as many as 54 erotic sculptures in different poses.

Mandawa Mahal is in close vicinity to Bhoramdeo Temple, which is known as the Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Mandawa Mahal has a resemblance to a marriage hall. It has erotic sculptures on the outer walls and the sanctum sanctorum is on 16 pillars.
